Harper finds his feet, but too late I noticed that as well. It made him look shifty. I wonder how many others noticed it.

Debates didn't change anything much for Martin or Harper. Apparently Martin came out a bit ahead. Both the Liberals and Conservatives are stalled, according to internal party polling.

Democracy, is that another right wing buzzword, when you want to crush the weaker components in the political system? I consider it bullying myself. It reminds me of the word "choice" which is the latest right wing buzzword for privitization of the health care system

One of the areas of concern is the low percentage of female MPs in the House of Commons. Political parties ignore the female voter at their peril. The last poll I viewed showed that the negative gap between male and female voter was almost 50% more for the Conservatives than the next closest party. The following is the percentage of female candidates breakdown for the coming election: Conservatives: 11% Liberals: 26% New Democrats: 31%

Layton goes on attack in leadership debate, gets under Martin's skin Layton came close to scoring several knockouts tonight, one when Martin mentioned reducing debt, and Layton retored yes, on the back of students.

Martin is owning the English Debate

Well at least you got that part right. -
I wonder how Martin is going to handle Adscam as more devastating news for the Liberals came out today. Starts in less than 10 miutes, eh!

Ad firm asked employees to donate to Liberals The Liberals continue to implode. Someone is going to have to hold the Conservatives' feet to the fire when Harper takes over as PM. I think Jack Layton better get ready to play a larger role, as the Liberals seem to be heading South in the polls.

Harper bombed in French debate
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
willy.....my numbers are correct. Ipsos-Reid poll following the French debate on best ideas and policies: Duceppe: 38% Layton: 23% Martin: 19% Harper: 12% Harper came in dead last on ideas and policies. -
Did the moderator(s) lose control of the debate? There seemed to be a`lot of talking over others, and some people have suggested that the moderators lost control of the debate? Do you agree?

Harper bombed in French debate
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have a hunch our here at Mapleleafweb is actually going to vote for Harper. -
pff.....gad you liked it. I think a lot of the media do a huge dis-service to viewers but being spokespeople for their respective political parties or ideology. A good example is Jose Legault - she's not a journalist, she a BQ or PQ hack, fronting as an independent journalist. What I like about Wells is that he expresses his own point of view, he's not a broken record like Legault. Sometimes he will support one party, another time another party.

Ipsos-Reid poll following the French debate on best ideas and policies: Duceppe: 38% Layton: 23% Martin: 19% Harper: 12% I think what happened is that Harper had to try and defend his policies and he ran into trouble by trying to avoid answering. Do you think he will be able to recover tomorrow night?

Best Political Comment of the Day
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Excuse me, we do not agree at all, because you were in the government for 10 years when we were asking for action on the environment and the air is a lot worse than it was 10 years ago, drinking water is a real problem." - NDP Leader Jack Layton to Liberal Leader Paul Martin when Martin suggested the Liberals and the NDP agreed on several fronts. -
The reality is, once the election is over, the Liberals and the Conservatives will work together to defeat the progressive social policies of the Bloc and the NDP.
-
Instant poll hands TV debate win to Duceppe Everyone expected Duceppe to win tonight, so there were no surprises there. But on policy it seems the NDP is getting high marks.

BQ will be real winner in election
maplesyrup replied to BQSupporter's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Le BQ's goal is independence for Quebec. Now why would a BQ supporter be pushing so hard for Harper? Because Le BQ sees their best opportunity to achieve their aim of Quebec independence is with Harper. I don't think Canadians will fall into this trap.
