August1991....thanks. You are very helpful, and a wealth of knowledge, even if it does have that Tory twist. Do you think Martin is a Democrat?
-
August1991....... why did Trudeau resign? 1979.05.22 Progressive Conservative 136 282 4,111,559 35.89 % Liberal 114 282 4,594,319 40.11 % New Democratic Party 26 282 2,048,779 17.88 % Social Credit 6 103 527,604 4.61 % Other 475 173,441 1.52 % Total 282 1,424 11,541,000 100 % Government--136, Opposition--146, Minority--10 The combined Liberal-NDP seats only amounted to 140 seats, not enough for control. Is it because PM Trudeau could not get the SC support? What actually happened? Did Trudeau even try to form a government and get turned down by the other parties? Or was it because Trudeau was a class act and resigned because it was the correct thing to do?

What was it that Chretien said: "What's a few million dollars when the future of the country is at stake?" I had heard that, but I wonder if he actually said that. -
What is Le BQ strategy? Don't ever forget what their goal is: Quebec Independence The collapse of the Liberals may well be playing into their hands. So what is Le BQ hoping for in this election to help them in their march towards Quebec independence.?

New Democrat Leader Jack Layton commenting, after his stunning victory in the English debate (see Maclean's magazine poll): "Every Conservative candidate is now wearing duct tape across their mouths with the inscription - DO NOT OPEN UNTIL JUNE 29TH." (178) -
Lastest trend says the Liberals will win 1 seat in BC (V. South). Liberal insiders are now saying their vote strength has dropped to less than 20% in BC. The chickens are coming home to roost for PM Martin. The story of the campaign has been the collapse of the Paul Martin campaign. How many right wing parties do we need in Ottawa? Now who do you want holding Harper's feet to the fire?: An old, soon to be replaced, party leader like Paul Martin, or a young energetic leader like Jack Layton?
-
And here's another one, which is unscientific, however: In your opinion, who won the national leader's debate? Gilles Duceppe 4% Stephen Harper 26% Jack Layton 39% Paul Martin 19% No clear winner 13% Macleans.ca

The latest poll numbers which came out today are: Cons: 34% Libs: 32% New Dem: 19% Bloc: 12% Grn: 3% Und: 18%

If I were Harper I would call a press conference and say: "I was wrong on Iraq". We are all human, there is nothing wrong with admitting one is incorrect. It actually might be refreshing for a politician to do so. -
BQS......this is a place to post messages about politics, not personal putdowns. Why don't you try it?

Do you actually think a Harper government would run a deficit? Please! Only need a one word response to this: "MULRONEY"

What is Harper's position on Kyoto? He does not support Canada's position on Kyoto. Great, just do nothing, and global warming will take care of itself. -
Layton attacks Liberal record, Conservatives
-
playfulfellow.....do you ever post anything of any substance? All I seem to hear from you are silly personal attacks. But I guess that is typical of this right wing love fest as someone recently described this place. Grow up and post something concerning some policy you like or don't like. Please stop with your petty nonsense and grow up. What are you, 10 years old? My goodness, how pathetic. Next thing I know, you'll be denying global warming.

Assessing the leaders' performance: Jack Layton Jack certainly was in the game last night, and we can expect his aggressive performance to impact positively for the New Democrats in the upcoming polls.

Rev Blair.......what about Harper's stand on Iraq. Apparently he wrote a letter to the Wall Street Journal saying basically that Canada should be defying the United Nations, and complaining that Canada was not taking the law into its own hands by participating "shoulder to shoulder" with the United States. Do you know anything about that? -
Less than two weeks left in the election campaign. Apparently the debates didn't change much, if anything, for the voters. What do each of the parties have to do between now and June 28th to maximize their vote?
