Martin using flag to score 'cheap political points': Harper It seems to me these two articles tie together. The New York Times journalist knows Canada well. -

August1991.......have you been away? Because actually the latest (yesterday) SES CPAC polling showed the Harper Conservatives dropping 3% Canadawide in just one day. Canada Company Date----------CO LI ND BL GN OT UD SES CPAC 11/06/2004 34 33 18 11 05 ?? 24 EKOS 10/06/2004 34 30 19 ?? ?? ?? ?? SES CPAC 10/06/2004 37 32 17 10 05 ?? 22 Leger Marketing 09/06/2004 30 33 19 12 ?? ?? ?? Ipsos-Reid 09/06/2004 31 32 16 ?? ?? ?? ?? That poll showed the Liberals, the Bloc Quebecois, and the New Democrats each slightly up, contrasted with the good size Conservative drop. But more importantly the poll showed that the undecided jumped another 2% to 24%, basically one in four voters are undecided. This is very high. Canadians it seems are, or were, angry with the Liberals, but they haven't decided what or if they want an alternative. At the moment it appears that Canadians want a minority government. With one in four voters supporting the New Democrats in Ontario, the New Democrats are at 24%, there will be many surprises when the election results are announced on June 28th. I guess Canada's media like to keep a few secrets from Canadians, eh? Democracy in action for sure.

Federal Regional Polling - BC
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
August1991.........so far you have managed reasonably well to not get into personal attacks or insults. Let's keep it that way, eh? British Columbia Party/May 31/Jun 4/Jun 11 Cons: 39%, 31%, down 8%, 33%, up 2% (net down 6%) New Dem: 14%, 23% up 9%, 27%, up 4% (net up 13%) Libs: 34%, 32%, down 2%, 27%, down 5% (net down 7%) Grn: 13%, 10%, down 3% Oth: 14%: ?? In the last week alone the New Democrats picked up 4%, double what the Cons did. Probably the New Democrats and the Cons will be tied in voter support in BC, a week from now, if they are not already. I sure like this trend. -
BQ would defeat Harper minority over abortion
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe unlike the Harper Conservatives, Duceppe's Bloc Quebecois believes in abortion rights for women. Is the Harper Conservative approach on these social issues starting to backfire on them? On these issues Harper seem to be out of touch with most Canadians. The Harper Conservatives seem to have been on the defensive in the last few days. Anyone else notice this? -

Layton & Chow in Cantonese Ads
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Apparently this constructive marketing approach with some of the New Democrats ads are going to have Jack & Olivia speaking in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Watch for either the Conservatives or the Liberals, or both, to copy this fabulous New Democrat strategy -

Either you are for woman's right to choose or you are not. Harper says well maybe, no legislation no this mandate, but possibly in the next one - where have I heard that before. PUT HARPER DOWN AS NOT SUPPORTING WOMEN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE I.E. HARPER IS AGAINST ABORTION RIGHTS FOR WOMEN -

This is a really good move on behalf of the New Democrats, and a great way for a lot of Canadians to learn about, and appreciate, Jack Layton's trilingualism. If anyone sees any of Jack and Olivia's ads, please let us know. I presume these Cantonese ads are going to be shown on the multicultural channels. Gotta love it!

Canada's Mayors Don't Want Conservatives
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gee, and I thought the federales are constantly intervening, so we would have high national standards, and to distribute the equalization payments, in order to protect the economically weaker areas. If we are overgoverned, perhaps we should abolish the provinces (just kidding, sort of).
