There were two definite Independents, had that been taken into consideration, he may have been almost dead on. Very impressive, nonetheless.

Harper Wins Most Seats - Dion Becomes PM
kengs333 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A coalition is unlikely. Both Duceppe and Layton have much to lose by joining in a formal alliance with the Liberals, and the Liberals themselves would probably suffer as a result. The Liberals need to rebuild, get a new leader, and then start preparing for 2010 or 2011. -
Will Harper once again appoint Fortier to the Senate?
kengs333 replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's face it, after all we've seen from Harper the last two 1/2 years and during this election, no doubt he will. What's to stop him? He clearly likes to break the rules, and piss on democracy, so it should not come as a surprise. -
At the moment Elections Canada has the Greens at 838,105 with 5,314 polls not yet reporting. They might actually hit the 900,000 level.

All it says is that Canadians are more concerned about themselves than they are about the environment, the destruction of which is the most serious issue facing us. A massive slump in an artificially inflated market scares people, climate change, pollution, and melting arctic ice does not. That's sad. Well, suffer the consequences. I think we've already passed the point of no return, and the majority have spoken: we want to blindly go on as before even if it means polluting our world to death.

One of the most likely regions for this to happen is in southwestern Ontario; if you look at the ridings of Guelph, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, and some of the ridings in that area, they're coming in 2nd and 3rd. They even got 3rd in the heart of GTA neocon territory: Oakville. This is happening in Conservative won ridings, and shows to some extent that OGP performance in 2007 wasn't a fluke or because of a protest vote.

Well, considering that it is a seperate politcal party according to Elections Canada, Harper is making another bald face lie and you are agreeing with a bald face lie.

My guess is between 900,000 and 1.05 million...

The interesting thing is that there are so many people that are undecided or may vote strategically, that despite media attempts to groom us for a Con government, we could easily end up with a Liberal government, possibly (but very remotely) even a majority.

If the Liberals get in, what should the west do?
kengs333 replied to TCCK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In case you haven't been paying attention all this started after the Cons won the federal election, and the Con MP has been disinterested in the issue to say the least. You also clealry don't know anything about the provincial Liberal government, and that it tends to be to the right of its federal counterparts. Besides, this is really a FEDERAL issue. The Cons may actually lose their MP over this issue. -
Voting should be OPEN and ELECTRONIC

Hmmm... yes, a politician who has studied politcal science--that indeed is a problem... So when do you plan on graduating from high school?

Just goes to show that supporters consider the Conservatives to be a western, regional party... -
Bob Rae as Finance Minister?
kengs333 replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My sentiments exactly. We need an end to regional politics, and one way we can do it is with electoral reform. We need a PR system. -

So what if he has a Masters? Many people have those nowadays. Academically, I would think that Dion has better credentials.

So that's why M.Dancer hasn't been posting... he's probably out in some desert somewhere reclining on a lawn chair with cameras and binoculars at the ready...

Legitimacy of newspaper endorsements
kengs333 replied to Kitch's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You should try reading newspapers from 150 years ago: they were much more partisan and blatant in who they did and did not support (and why, in the latter case)... -
Oh, that's right he "tried to do something". At least he gave it his best shot, right? Of course had it been a Liberal PM you'd be lambasting him for his ridiculous attempt to "do something innovative..." Sorry, but I think the Carbon Tax thing came before the economic meltdown... And of course, when he states that they would work out a plan after he becomes PM, the Conservatives jump all over that... what's he supposed to say: I would do nothing--just like Harper? You still don't get the Carbon Tax, do you. Lower income tax and corporate, shift it to pollution; the less you pollute, the less tax you pay. Despite the false drama on Wall St., there still is an environmental crisis. Oh, yeah, whatever... excuses, excuses... maybe if you actually knew something about the Mulroney years you'd know that he was spending when the economy was fine and driving up the debt in the process, and the worse the economy got, the more he spent. The debt went up from $200b to $600b while he was PM. He easily could have paid some of it down at the beginning, but didn't. Only he (and his finance minister) is/are to blame... Just proves that you know dyck squat... How many times do you people need to be reminded that it's Martin who go everything back on track... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume that you're deliberately trying to be a prick. If not, you just do NOT know anything about Canadian politics, and are a wast of time...

Name one white supremacist that has run in an election. Legitimacy is not a relative concept. Just because you do not agree with a party's platform, doesn't mean that it isn't legitimate.

Oh, yeah, like R. B. Bennett and Brian Mulroney...
