Some voters, perhaps; but my guess is that most voted Liberal or Green. Those who vote for the Conservatives vote for the name and the colour blue, and probably have not real understanding about what the party's agenda is really all about. These are people who pay little attention to politics outside of elections. Many of the Red Tories who formed the Progressive Canadians have joined the Liberals. Nice delusion. Only 37.7% of voters voted for the Conservatives, which means that the minority do not want Harper, let alone a Conservative majority. The Conservatives only gained about 1% point over the last election, but with about 200,000 fewer votes. Somehow that translates into about 14 more seats for a total of about 48% of the total seats. You can't tell me that there's something wrong with the system when this kind of nonsense can be the result of an election. Conservatives always tend to govern for 5 to 8 years before they wear out there welcome. If the election was any indication, this parlaiment should be filled with many gaffes and scandals, and this time people won't be so willing to turn a blind eye. And wait until the economic numbers come out. We're probably in deficit right now, and it should hit $10b in a couple of years. Hopefully this will make people finally realize just how much of a bald face liar Harper really is...

You can't tell me that all is forgotten and that if they got a majority it wouldn't all start to be rediscovered.

What if we agreed to re-locate Israel?

Speak for yourself... The "note the absence of" was in reference to this question "The purpose actually needs to be explained to you?" Learn how to read. -
We don't see the old Reform in the party because they don't have a majority. If they did, it would all come out of the closet post haste.
-
Oh, wah! I'm soooo hurt...
-
Okay, whatever... It is a serious suggestion, though. When we have the West and Quebec being represented by regional parties, and the Liberals the de facto regional Party in the Martimes now, it would onlt seem reasonable that Ontario be represented by a party--whether it's a new one, or the Greens makes no difference...
-
The name must be confusing you: the party in power is in fact the Reform party. Calling themselves the Conservative party is all part of the deception...

The question is clear enough; if you can't figure it out, it's not my problem. -
There are probably former supporters of every major party in the Green Party.
-
Nope. Democracy is about the population being represented in a forum like a Parlaiment, regardless of what their political outlook is. It's not for any one person to decide what is legitimate or not. So if 7% of the population is concerned about the environment, then those 7% should be represented by that proportion of the members of the respective forum. Most democracies have figured this out, too bad Canada can't--and yet we still act as though we're one of the true democracies out there...
-
The Green Party exists because none of the other parties were taking the environment seriously...

Fight the SPP / North American Union
kengs333 replied to V for Vick's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I'll admit I haven't looked into this all that much, but it would seem to me that integration would simply continue to occur until our existing constitution and laws become simply irrelevant and ineffectual. Isn't there already a court and arbitration system in place that basically supercedes our own legal system? Elizabeth May was the only leader that I know of went anywhere near NAU when she raised the point during the English Language Debate about the guy from Arizona who sued in an effort to establish a private medical clinic in Canada. Look at the history of English law, and the nature of the court system: by the 19th century, there were a number of courts that simply fell into disuse because other courts creeped into their jurisdiction; the same will arguably happen in Canada; as NAU becomes more of a reality, concerned parties will simply seek to have their grievances addressed in what they believe to be a more suitable court. -

I still don't think you get it... -
Interesting. The Greens are irrelevant. So why is it then that the Cons, Liberals, and NDP have all modified their environmental policies to mitigate against losing votes to the Green Party? Hmmm... Well, if you can so easily dismiss the concerns of 940,000+ of your fellow Canadians, then it only speaks to your lack of concern for democracy in this country. Maybe one day you'll get your dream of a one-party system, but until then you'll just have to accept the fact that other parties are legitimate too...

Try answering the question with a suitable response.

Harper sure bought this riding. Pretty expensive way to get about 3000 votes, if you ask me.
-
Does Ontario need its own party? Ontario is probably the most cosmopolitan and diverse province in Canada, and supports all of the major parties (many would vote Bloc if they could), tends to vote based more on the party's policy rather than regional concerns, etc. But it's clear that the country has become mired in regionalism, and that Ottawa is giving the province the shaft now that Ontario's economy is in decline and is losing manufacturing jobs at an alarming rate. Since Ontario is divided among the three parties, would it not be best if a united populist party existed instead to represent Ontario's concerns in Parlaiment?
-
Hmmm... who was it that they endorsed, again?
-
I thought the NDP was strong in that riding?
