  1. Das Boot, still one of the best movies about WWII ever made, and a personal favourite of mine.
  2. So, all I need is a smartphone, how interesting. Currently I operate a large milling machine at work. This demands a thorough understanding of both mechanical and mathematical principles. Could you explain to me how a smartphone could simplify this job so that just anyone could do it? Currently, out of nine hundred plus employee's only twelve of us can run this equipment. I'm sure management would love to know how smartphones would make any of their employee's proficient with this equipment. Or is it your contention that nobody has to be able to make or fix anything any more? What I find especially interesting is your constant reference to phones as the ultimate solution and replacement for actual knowledge, skills and abilities. You do realize that these would not even exist if it were not for people being highly proficient in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, do you not? So in short, you propose that these forms of knowledge are all but useless, yet that which you champion as the answer is the direct result of these disciplines that you scorn. All I can say is wow! And you claim to be a Teacher, they've really lowered the bar if that is the case.
  3. Why would you say it must be a slow news day?
  4. Actually I've heard quite a bit about The Drop. Its one I want to see as it sounds pretty good. But...a cute dog? Say it aint so! Thats a Pit Bull. One of those horrific killing machines. The movie actually used three of them during production. Tom Hardy took turns taking them home with him after shooting for the day. He said he had to take turns because they'd become despondent if he didn't. What's really surprising is that the handler allowed him to do that. In most cases the animals are considered too specialized in their talents to allow such things. Tom Hardy is a dog lover though.
  5. From what I've observed and what many whom I asked have answered the vast majority do not conduct buisness on their phones. Further to that studies have shown the vast majority use them for meaningless low grade entertainment such as video's of people doing stupid things that get them hit in the balls. Welcome to Idiocracy.
  6. Really? People still go crazy over Apple junk? I guess if brand recognition is your benchmark then Apple is the go to company. Now lets see them line up for that Beats garbage they'll be selling.
  7. Did you take a look at yourself? Help your position in what way? As in the sole arbiter of good versus bad debating styles? As in how you masterfully avoided my questions earlier when you threw a hiss'y fit over a story source'd from a (gasp!!) Israeli source? As in how you continue to directly answer anyone who asks you a direct question that requires your honest answer without reliance upon questionable opinion pieces? It;s also fantastic for homely sayings and puppy video's (which I confess I love), also nice pic's of cars, bikes, scenery and puppy video's. So what's your point? Genius debater?
  8. You forgot. Some beheaded people and laughed. Some shot unarmed men, women and children. Some blew people up. Some beheaded a six year old boy because he didn't have right imaginary friend Some fired rockets at other states. Some plotted attacks on other states. Some radicalized others. And on and on and on. Your point about crazy, thank you.
  9. Your response makes zero sense. Now I understand that simple concepts baffle some people but this should be really easy to figure out, even for you. So lets break this down. Do you think their actions will not make them a most desirable target to every red blooded male, and probably most females, if not all, involved in IS? If not could you explain why you do not think so? As for it being an Israeli source. So what? They reported the story. Do you think these two young Arab women did not actually take this stand and its all made up? How does showing two Arab women taking a stand against fundamental extremism label all Muslims as the same? Are you incapable of discussing this action on the basis of a move being made to improve the lot in life of all women in Islamic states. Or do you think women have it just peachy kean in these places? Then that would be a strong showing of faith indeed. As I said your responses so far are not logical, in fact they smack of a form of zealotry all of your own.
  10. Well you know what they say about opinions don't you. So, in fact your opinion is so far off base that it isn't even in the ball game. If you had bothered to read the article you would have seen that I was posting it in order to show two Islamic people taking a very pointed and dangerous stand against extremism. How does this label all Islamic people as the same? Please enlighten me, I await your oh so creative but erroneous response.
  11. I know exactly where you stand "buddy". What I was hoping for was an intelligent discussion of the stand these young women are taking. Of course when I saw you had posted I realized that such a thing was not going to happen.
  12. Hmmmm, so you have nothing to say about the stand this young woman and her friend are taking? Just a snide anti Israel comment. Very revealing of you I must say.
  13. Two brave young women. I wonder how long they'll manage to stay alive after doing this. I would imagine that they'll be considered a most desirable target now. It should be noted that, given the attitudes and beliefs of IS, they could be considered quite foolish. Personally I believe they are courageous in their stand against this organization.
  14. No you are not understanding this correctly. What I am pointing out is the fact that people seem to think its no big deal to act with cruelty because equally bad or worse things are happening elsewhere. Or at least that acts of cruelty are no big deal because worse is happening elsewhere. BC Chick, Bonam's whole "family pets are slaves" spiel is in fact pretty much word for word a PETA absurdity. As for your point about hypocrisy I happen to agree with you 100%. However does that mean we should all abandon our attempts to change things and improve the lives of all animals?
  15. Forget it, Bonam has drunk the PETA cool aid and is beyond understanding. This is why I don't bother answering him on this subject any more, he just doesn't get it, nor apparently does he want to. I could refute everything he says but, honestly, I just can't be bothered. He apparently thinks that if bad things happen then all bets are off and bad things happening should be the order of the day for all.
  16. I guess CSNY got it right years ago, Teach Your Children Well. http://english.alarabiya.net/en/webtv/reports/2014/08/25/Video-shows-young-boy-pledging-allegiance-to-ISIS.html
  17. Lovely lot of people over there. http://www.inquisitr.com/1431876/girl-beheads-doll-james-foley/ Another future "freedom fighter" in the making. Or simply someone who is misunderstood?
  18. And that is one of the reasons he's Sir Patrick Stewart.
  19. Agreed, I don't think such a concept has ever crossed anyone's mind. I may be wrong, maybe there is someone who thought that, once. That would be about it though. In my experience most people don't waste any of their time thinking about Quebec unless the Quebec authorities pull some more crap like harassing business owners for calling spaghetti spaghetti or some other such bull.
  20. Glad you guys mentioned that. I was thinking it from the moment I started reading this thread. I find it interesting that it has been suggested that the CAF handle these situations. After being one of the favourite places to cut funding, manpower, equipment etc. for decades some would appear to want the Forces to do what they have no capability to do.
  21. Apparently the Brits are close to, or have already identified the POS who performed this grisly act and have deployed SAS members to hunt him down. I guess he can bend over and kiss the repository of his mental abilities good bye. Yeah, the optics are bad but come on man. The guy has to get his Golf on.
  22. This is the part I don't understand. Does this mean the teachers are demanding payment in the form of Chickens? Would these be live or pre prepared for the oven?
  23. Their are so many logical fallacies and incorrect statements in your last post that I just dont have time to address them right now. Later I'll disect it for you and perhaps you'll see how ridiculous what you said actually is, though I doubt that. Really doing good in this thread aren't you, first it was parroting PETA's ridiculous assertion about pets and cruelty, now this.
  24. I read White Fang when i was ten or eleven years old. I still remember my extreme distaste at that part of the book.Although there may be a long standing tradition of dog fighting among FN's it doesn't change the fact that it is a disgusting and incredibly cruel practice that must end. As with many traditions of the past, time lends a fresh perspective. Some would argue that it is a cultural type of thing and as such should be respected. In my opinion it is a practise that serves only to denigrate and debase any culture that practises it. It would be hypocrisy in the extreme to demand respect for ones culture whilst condoning such a cruel and barbaric activity. Unfortunately it also generates millions in illicit gambling, drugs, illegal guns and ties to organized crime. As such its a tough nut to crack. America is setting an example worthy of emulation with their zero tolerance policy and concerted efforts to eliminate it. Canada would do well to follow this example rather than our current course of action which is to pretend it doesn't happen. As usual in these matters we rank last in the developed western world when it comes to this issue. As I mentioned before, we are roughly comparable to Mexico regarding our animal cruelty laws, really something to be proud of. (that was sarcasm, for those who may not realize it)
  25. Very true. personally as a Canadian I find it embarrassing and rather shameful that we rank lowest in the developed world for animal cruelty laws and are equivalent to Mexico. It really doesn't say much for our society as a whole in that regard. Our authorities tend to turn a blind eye towards these issues or even outright deny them. I've been following a situation in Alberta recently regarding suspected dog fighting on reserves around Edmonton. Dogs have been turning up horribly mauled, abandoned to die slowly in pain. The dogs show obvious signs of dog fighting but the RCMP and humane society deny any possibility of dog fighting claiming its just a case of owner neglect and owners losing the dogs after the neglect occurred. Smaller dogs, Beagles etc. have been going missing in alarming numbers, most likely to be used as bait dogs. Recently, after all these denials the authorities declared dog fighting is happening on a reserve but refuse to name it. Obviously because it is Natives doing it and organizing it the authorities are reluctant do do anything and would rather cover it up. It doesn't matter where it happens, it needs to be stopped. Not only for the sake of the animals but also because of all the negative repercussions this disgusting activity brings with it. Here's a link to a recent story about it, there have been quite a few that have come to my attention lately. http://www.edmontonsun.com/2014/08/19/dog-fighting-ring-feared-after-pet-rescue-takes-in-a-battered-pit-bull-from-a-reserve-south-of-edmonton As I mentioned before this activity is taking place on more than a few reserves. There is a strong element of denial involved but it must be faced and countered. Ignoring it and the negative repercussions wont make it go away.
