  1. No one is saying that Dr. Suzuki is not free to say whatever he likes. The problem is that so many take it as gospel! Hey - I grew up on 'The Nature of Things' too, I loved his shows and to be honest probably helped me to study in the fields I have. That said, he is by no means a climate expert, as it is not his field of expertise. I do agree with some of his advocations - but not because I am afraid of CO2 in the atmosphere ( which really isn't such a BIG greenhouse gas anyhow - plus it's effects will probably be far worse in the oceans as opposed to the atmosphere - but I digress), but because I understand the ramifications of OTHER pollutants that don't have the celebrity status that GH gases (predominantly CO2) have. Now, as far as Baird goes - he is certainly not any kind of expert (outside of freaking out and yelling alot). So what does he have to do with REAL facts? Not much. He's a politician - they DON"T deal in facts!! They deal with how to manipulate public opinion and in the realm of the sciences that is really easy to do - most folk are scientifically illiterate.
  2. Truly sad how this thread has devolved. Also sad that to some here any kind of criticism of Israeli policies (well discussed in Israel herself) leads to accusations of anti-semetism! Mind-boggling really. It's too bad too because without REAL discussion - with both sides listening - progress and solutions can never be achieved. It's sad for all involved, the blaming of one side or the other - when there is so much blame it covers half the bloody planet. Perhaps if the Western world had not propped up the pfledgling Israeli State and the Arab world had not fuelled the fires of desperation on the part of Muslim and Christian Palestinans a lesson would have been learned by both peoples - that is: how to get along and build together, how to accept one another. I know I sound idealistic, but I really feel that Israel lost a wonderful opportunity in declaring herself a Jewish state. She could have chosen to create herself as not only a haven and safe place for the Jews, but also of all peoples. She could truly have been a light among nations, emboding the best of what all monothesitic religions share - the golden rule itself. Though I am not a 'religious' person it seems to me that this one thing is universal - but the other stuff is BS and only leads to divide us all. Sad really, all of it. Anyways, rant done - I feel for the innocents who don't realize how their leaders are taking them to the slaughter.
  3. Cannabis has been found to be very effective in the treatments of both particular types of prostate cancers as well a types of brain cancers. The mechanism by which it achieves this is not well understood, though it occurs when using whole plant extracts only. When the researchers attempt to identify the particular molecules responsible (so to be able to synthesize them) it simply doesn't work as well. Spain has a been a leader in researching the benefits of cannabis - google it to find out. There is no argument that it does work - just the WAYS in which it does so are vastly unrealized. Has cannabis every killed anyone? NO Is cannabis carcinogenic? This is more problematic to answer, since it depends on a few factors. How was the crop grown? Were pesticides used? What kinds of nutrients was it grown with - ie chemical vs organics. What were the conditions under the growth cycle? (Any factors which can be attributable to any other growing crop). Now, if you grow the stuff in a contaminated mine, full of carcinogenic materials, then you test that said crop - of course you are going to find carcinogens! So, since Hellth Canada has only tested it's own 'shwag' grown in a contaminated environment, not using the principles of organics - is it any wonder that they find arsenic and lead? Is it any wonder they find high tar (they grind up the whole bloody plant - leaves stems all of it - while the proper use is only the female mature flowers - the rest is pretty much garbage - or needs to be processed to filter out the impurities of leaf and stem material). Anyways, as usual the ignorance of this plant abound. Booga Booga.
  4. Suzuki is a brilliant geneticist - that is his field of scientific expertise. Outside of that he is a useful puppet and as a 'biologist' has a very short grasp on climate change wrt the geological record - as most biologists do. Their idea of a sample only covers a scant few generations - too short to draw any kind of accurate conclusion wrt global warming - which IMO is a natural cycle. This whole global warming BS is very useful for taking our minds off far more dangerous pollutants we allow to escape into our environment - it detracts from far more important issues, as well as it allows us to be further taxed to death in the name of 'saving the planet'. Arrogant to say the least. Can ya tell I'm not a fan of David?
  5. Cybercoma - thank you for the most thoughtful of posts in this otherwise bigotted thread. ScottSA - what you say of Islam is utterly bigotted and full of the usual propoganda - Goebbels would be very proud. The religion of Islam is the scapegoat of today - a century ago it was the Jews. No difference. Any kind of 'radicalism' whether it be Christian, Muslim or Judaism is simply the use of religion and people's uneducated outlooks to covet more power. It has nothing to do with spirituality - or one's relation to his or her 'G-d'. (You know the invisible dude in the sky). I wish more could see through the abuse of religious doctorine and realize we are ALL people, with the same hopes and desires of living in peace, loving one's family and friends and try to build happier lives. Organized religion should go the way of the dinos - it should become extinct - only then will humanity learn to look on herself as made from the same cloth, only then can we really learn to love, not only ourselves but all our brothers and sisters too. We are one family. But go ahead and continue on with the divide and conquer ploy - afterall it's worked oh so well!
  6. Rue, Thank you for such a thoughtful response - I too would prefer to use the pepper spray! (Actually, I would attempt to stear clear of dangerous situations period. As for martial arts, hee, I have already got my black belt and am currently working on my second dan. I agree that being defensive is the first and foremost anyone can do. I also agree with you that anyone who does have a firearm should be required to train and retrain after time. Again, thanks for the very nice post. Buffy
  7. It is based on it's vapourisation temperature - not it's combustion temp. During the combustion all sorts of nasties are released - the sugars, the tars etc. At the vapourisation points of cannabinoids and thc only these elements are released in gaseous state. I hear it takes some getting used to, as it doesn't 'feel' like one has inhaled anything. Personally, I haven't used one, though I know a few MS patients who swear by it (they are non-smokers and don't want to combust the herb). There is lots of info around on them, seek and you shall find. Still though, certainly any way to reduce any harms which might be associated with inhaling smoke is alright by me. Each to his/her own!
  8. Well, being an ex-gungrabber I see clearly both sides of this issue. I used to think - just outlaw guns and gun crime will cease (talk about a simple minded approach), sort of like prohibition! It doesn't work in reality. What ends up happening is law abiding folk are left defenseless while criminals, who by nature don't adhere to laws, roam well armed! The police are not there to rescue you, they are not there to prevent the crime in the first place - they are there to 'clean' up afterwards, by means of arrest and punishment - but don't kid yourself - they are not there at 3:00 AM when some idiot breaks into your house with who knows what kind of intention. Sad but true. Now, that said it is clear that those who legally own guns should IMO take training and be required to store their firearms safely - this is a no brainer. But outright banning guns is not going to stop any criminal from getting their hands on one, or two or more! So, we have a situation where those who are responsible are being left without the means to protect themselves - as with this shooting at Vtech. If another student or professor, heck even the campus security, had had a weapon - loaded and ready to go I seriously doubt that this unbalanced nutbar Cho would have wracked up the body count he did. An example of which was the Appalachain incident cited in the article which started this thread. As for accidents, well they too happen every day. They are tragic yes, but are gun accidents really the big terror the gungrabbers make them out to be? How about accidents in the medical field? How about automotive accidents? How about playground mishaps? Swimming and boating? Knife accidents? Farm equipment accidents? Accidents are simply that - accidental, not intended. It's impossible to legislate 'accidents' away. Another thing - let's say that guns are all rounded up and dispenced with - well, criminals and nutbars will simply find something else - human nature. Knife culture is alive and well in England, who has some of the strictist gun laws in the world. Almost anything can be used as a weapon in some way. Also, it's a non argument since it is impossible to enforce - if folks want a gun - they will get one - legally or not. So, again sort of like prohibition banning guns is not realistic. I know it is argued that if guns were not available then mass killings would not take place. I'm not sure of the logic here - as IMO if the mass population is known to carry arms the criminal is much less likely to attempt to take out a load of folks. As stated above - if only one of these kids or adults had been armed, Cho would've been stopped in his tracks. Now, all that rant aside - illegal smuggling of weapons and the blackmarket thereof is certainly something which DOES need addressing. But disarming a law abiding citizenry is NOT the way to deal with that, in fact it often results in increased use of guns by criminals against said lawful folks. I'll tell you, if I were to be minding a store late at night all alone I would most certainly want a nice loaded firearm by my side, along with some pepper spray and a baseball bat.
  9. Indeed, one can also make a tincture quite easily, this allows for very easy dosing - as each individual is different wrt their needs. Also, the new vapourizers work very well releasing the cannabinoids and thc without combustion (hence no smoke). Considering that cannabis was used for many medicines for thousands of years, I think it's high time she be used as such again. Of course, since growing it is so easy and processing it just as easy this does pose a threat to the pharmaceutical industry - hence don't hold your breath for legalisation any time soon. For those who preach "It's bad for you" - newflash - living is bad for you! Jogging within city limits is bad for you! Extreme sports are bad for you and could kill you! At least cannabis has never killed anyone! Oh and don't forget alcohol is also bad for you! IOW - not an argument.
  10. To be honest, I don't quite see where Guthrie got confused. Iraq and Afghanistan are intricately tied - both using 911 as an excuse to invade otherwise soveriegn countries. 911 was the total excuse to invade Afghanistan, due to the evil Osama rumoured to be lurking there in caves! 911 was also an excuse used to invade Iraq - well uh just cuz - since there was NO connection whatsoever to 911 wrt to Iraq. But the Neocons (Or should I say NeoLibs - take your pick) wanted to oust Saddam anyway - a puppet who had outlived his usefulness, and a puppet that knew too much. Wrt Tillman and Lynch - it is very clear that their deaths were used for propoganda purposes - no matter which side of the 'proverbial fence' one sits. Sure it happens... but should we - as apparantly enlightened folks allow that? I personally think not.
  11. FOOD 1 MOBILITY 0 SHELTER 0.8 GOODS/SERVICES 0.6 TOTAL FOOTPRINT 2.4 IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 1.3 PLANETS. I think if I retake this during the summer period my mobilty factor will rise as I do alot of canoeing, camping and cottaging, thus I leave town every chance I get. That said,we try our best in our home to reduce our material consumption, as well we tend to grow much of our own food in the summer months, which gets preserved for throughout the winter - nothing better then to pop open a jar of home grown tomatoes, beets and pickles in the dead of winter! We also have a local organics market within easy biking distance which we frequent weekly. I am not a big consumer, though I do intend to upgrade my stove from electric (old model) to gas - much nicer for cooking! (That'll be my big ticket item for years to come I reckon!)
  12. Oh DOP, you sure love to call folks Nazis eh? One of your fave slurs! Let's see - can you think of anyone else who collaborated with the dreaded Nazis? Oh - wait didn't the WZO itself collaborate with Hitler's regime? Gosh it did! "Edward Mortimer, presently Director of Communications for UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, praised Zionism in the Age of the Dictators in the 2/11/84 London Times. Zionism, Mortimer wrote, "started from the assumption that anti-Semitism was inevitable and even in a sense justified so long as Jews were outside the land of Israel. It is true that only an extreme lunatic fringe of Zionism went so far as to offer to join the war on Germany's side in 1941, in the hope of establishing "the historical Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, and bound by a treaty with the German Reich." Unfortunately this was the group which the present Prime Minister of Israel chose to join." Yitzhak Shamir, Prime Minister, 198384/8692, was a leader of the 'Stern Gang' when it tried to ally with Hitler. He is an elder statesman in Israel's ruling Likud Party. In the 1930s and 40s, several Likud leaders, followers of Vladimir Jabotinsky's "Zionist-Revisionism," proclaimed themselves totalitarians." Just one example of many. Now - what is your point again? How does this impact on the occupation of Palestine currently? How does the Mufti's alignment with Hitler differ from those of radical Zionists of the time? Shall we recall another pretty nasty sentiment: "When, after Kristallnacht, the British, in the hope of easing the pressure for increased immigration into Palestine, proposed that thousands of children be admitted directly into Britain, Ben-Gurion was absolutely against the plan, telling a meeting of Labour Zionist leaders on 7 December 1938: 'If I knew that it would be possible to save all the children in Germany by bringing them over to England, and only half of them by transporting them to Eretz Yisrael, then I would opt for the second alternative. For we must weigh not only the life of these children, but also the history of the People of Israel.'" Let's face it DOP, wars result in strange bedfellows. Again - outside of relying on the guilt of the Holocaust - how does this impact the abuse of the innocent Palestinians of today? Does this justify the illegal settlements? The creation of generational refugees? Hmmm?
  13. Disarming is NOT the way to go! This is not a right/left issue - no matter how the partisans on both sides make it seem to be. While I don't agree 100% with Cockburn's take, it's refreshing to see someone make the connection. The first move of many tyrannies is to remove the ability for the public to defend itself. This is NOT and never has been the role of Police! http://counterpunch.org/cockburn04212007.html "Five years ago Peter Odighizuwa a 43 years old Nigerian student killed three faculty members at Appalachian Law School Dean with a semi-automatic handgun, but before he could wreak further carnage two students fetched weapons from their cars, challenged the murderer with guns levelled ,and disarmed him." *snip* "The answer is to disband SWAT teams and kindred military units, and return to the idea of voluntary posses or militias: a speedy assembly of citizen volunteers with their own weapons. Such a body at Columbine or Virginia Tech might have saved many lifes. In other words: make the Second Amendment live up to its promise." *snip* Click on link for full article. Refreshing to say the least.
  14. I don't think anyone said that specifically. You say that where no bigottry exists that whining about would not bring it on? Think about that for a moment - think about it in this way: Some chick, who has been hard done by decides it's fine to slag all men in general. Now, fine perhaps the dude she is slagging deserves it - but if she continues to carry on and on and whine and whine while going through a bunch of boyfriends only to whine there too - who is crying wolf? Is anyone going to believe her anymore wrt men? Or perhaps this young lady should take a good hard look in the mirror? So, remain unconvinced - but I still don't see where the game of 'boo hoo' has won any REAL points anywhere.
  15. Great post ScottSA, though we have disagreed in other venues the point you raise here is a very good one - and sadly lost on many. Buffy
  16. How am I being rude? Did I call you a goy? A very derogatory term. How about if someone called you kike? Or Raghead? ETC. No - calling folks goy is rude - plain and simple. Carry on sharky.
  17. Excuse me, but you are the person who accused Rue of being rude on another thread(eating pork is racsim). Your above remarks are indeed rude, and you are a hypocrite. Rue is rude. Anything to say about the topic? Or are you just a flamer too?? Hypocrite? Care to cite? LOL you people are too much. Dish it out but can't take it eh? kisses
  18. Oh Woofie! CFR??? hahahahahahhaahhaahha!
  19. I agree, this was hate but no crime was committed. When the KKK holds a rally or a march, it is in the name of hate but it only becomes a crime when they beat up a child or murder a family. Most violent crimes are motivated by hate - at least in part. Hate crime laws = thought crime laws - very vacous and certainly not applied equally. A husband killing his wife - a crime of passion often motivated by hate (not the opposite to love as the opposite to love is indifference). As I said - these dudes can get even in their own way if they want - pilli pilli pepper in the others' sandwich would be quite apropo! Half the problem is the bloody victim society we live in, no very empowering! Get over it!
  20. Gosh, would someone give both Bush and Cheney a BJ so we can get this show on the road? Seems like the Vermonters also want to impeach!! Good on them! http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,...1613120,00.html Sadly it's non-binding. Where is Monica when you need her? Sick society when one leader can be impeached for some harmless sex practice, while the monsters who lied their country into war and have the blood of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) on their hands can wobble around scott free. Impeach them both, buy some rope. (preferably hemp).
  21. Just a note on the term 'goy': goy (goi) pronunciation n. Offensive., pl. goy·im (goi'ĭm) or goys. Used as a disparaging term for one who is not a Jew. from: http://www.answers.com/topic/goy Goy or Goyim is an offensive term. It is no different than someone saying kike or raghead or nigger. Rue is rude (perhaps he/she/it forgot to include a 'd' when registering). This sandwich thing isn't a hate crime - in fact hate crime laws are a very slippery slope indeed.
  22. Watch it. You came close to me reporting you to the Pork Marketing Board. Pork, ham, you goys/guys are funny. You know what's really funny. Its when you goys/guys put hair nets on it when you serve it. Now my people have a thing about ham too but I can handle it with swiss cheese and mustard on rye bread. But it has to be on rye. Also it is the act of an infidel to eat any meat with pineapples. I mean this pineapple and ham on pizza stuff is ridiculous. Mixing fruit with meat. No no no. Why do you refer to folk as goy - its a rather derrogatory term. Also, you do know that meat and cheese should never mix (Buffy, Muffy or Puffy hands Rue a blackforest ham sandwich with really good Bavaian mustard, lettuce, tomato and Jarlsberg cheese - all on a lovely dark rye!) WRT the article - those kids should just 'Get over it'. Get a nice bag of pilli pilli pepper and get even - kids will be kids, and kids will be idiots. Did everyone here always go crying to an elder? forget I asked that.
  23. Scribbling as usual I see! No one here said Arabs were completely without blame, nor is anyone here saying Israel is to blame for Katrina! Gosh you love to exaggerate and plant false paraphases! We are though, talking about an illegal occupation by Israel of Palestine - and how this occupation has effected life on both sides, granted mostly on how it effects lives within the refugee camps and Palestinian villages - the topic of Carter's book (which certainly does have its ups and downs). Now, Scribbles can you manage to stay on topic - or are you just going to rush in where fools fear to tread?
  24. Rue, What about Fatah? What about the supplying of weapons to them - condoned both by the US and Israel? What about the original topic here, the occupation? Instead of hurling your dripping insults at folk - can you even address these things in a civil fashion? From what I have witnessed - you can't. Even when you do supply info which is relevant, you still diverge and act really patronizing. Not an indicator of a winning debate on your front - it detracts from some of the truths you do actually manage to utter. I thought that Carter raised some very valid points about the occupation and what it has meant to over a generation of Palestinian people. If the Israelis really want to keep breeding terrorism then keep doing what they have been, if they really want peace - which does mean sacrifice - then get off the pot. Often I think that alot of this has to do with scarce resources in the alotted lands of Israel proper (within the green line). The wall itself has taken a decidedly nasty turn by looping into Palestinian lands for their watersheds - this even the Israel Courts see and have tried to make a small difference. Coupled with all the checkpoints and illegal settlements one can easily see why the native Palestinians are a little miffed. There are many Israelis who also feel ashamed of their governments actions with respect to the occupied territories - I have cited B'Tselem to you and not a peep. Leaves me wondering why you post the way you do - are you here pretending to be a Jew and acting so rude as to give other Jews a bad name? Or are you simply a very angry individual? who knows... I wonder though. I'll await your usual non-response.
