  1. There seems to be a real misunderstanding of what 'theory' really is. First off, a scientist develops a "hypothesis" - then designs and experiment to see 'if' his hypothesis is correct or not - if his "hypothesis" is proven to be correct by empirical evidence provided by the experiment then it becomes a 'Theory'. Sorry but having my degrees in the sciences it ticks me off when folk don't realize what a 'theory' and a 'hypothesis' actually are. Carry on.
  2. More sad news from Africa: More than 1,000 killed in attack on Mogadishu, report says Mogadishu/Nairobi- More than 1,000 civilians were feared to have been killed in the latest fighting between Ethiopian-backed government troops and Islamic insurgents in Mogadishu, according to a report published by a Somali clan Tuesday. The report said 1,086 civilians including women and children have been killed and more than 4,000 injured in the fighting which saw tens of thousands flee the city. **************************** Ah the smell of American interference! How refreshing! /sarcasm
  3. Monsanto's GM Corn linked to liver, kidney toxicity in animals A variety of genetically modified corn that was approved for human consumption in 2006 caused signs of liver and kidney toxicity as well as hormonal changes in rats in a study performed by researchers from the independent Committee for Independent Research and Genetic Engineering at the University of Caen in France. *********** Given the alarming demise of so many bees, as well that recent study on rats fed GM foods I'm curious as to what others here think of the introduction into the food chain of never consumed protiens. Personally, I think that playing G-d in this manner is rather foolish to say the least, in addition arrogant beyond words.
  4. From "The Spoof"? Do you read your links? Yeah, ya got me there - though I did read it quickly and outside of a few name changes it complies with all of the other pieces I have seen. One of the things about satire darling is that it's based on truths - otherwise it doesn't work now does it. Anyways - it is certainly a problem - or are you denying that? To be frank I posted quickly and hit ctrl v without noticing that it was the spoof piece I put up, this is the article I had wanted to post: http://www.guardian.co.uk/life/science/sto...1443004,00.html That all said and done, do you think that it's all well and good that bees are dying off in such vast numbers? Do you think that this will effect pollination rates? What was it that Einstein said? If the bees go, so do we? Pardon my early morning mis-paste - still the message is clear - something is happening to our bees, and that something can be correlated to the introduction of GM crops (another topic altogether!) Do you like eating protiens never intended for consumption? That's what you are doing when you eat GM foods btw. Cheers
  5. I already did, see page one. There is a link there to a recent article published in Der Spiegel. I guess in your haste to rebutt you missed that - you might want to try reading all the posts first. Also, you state that the bees have been living for a decade without incidence. Really? Any YOU know this how Swami? I would suggest you google GM crops and bees yourself and do a little reading! Gosh - just recently the FDA has come out and said that GM crops ARE likely responsible for these astounding bee die offs! http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s5i16519 There are many articles and currently studies ongoing to determine the mechanism by which GM crops are affecting bees. I would wager that it has much to do with the suppression of the bees' natural immune system - thus allowing other vectors to adversely effect the bees, which otherwise would have been able to fight off the infection/disease. Goodness me look there are more too: http://www.google.com/search?q=bees+gm+cro...US&start=0&sa=N Have fun, and don't forget to read all the posts before you spew out your uneducated posts!! Good Day.
  6. Why is this place so darned infested? I am gobsmacked by the inane responses of the members of this board. Anyone with any kind of understanding of simple biology should see this depopulation as something significant - esp wrt GM crops - yet not a word. Oh well I guess it goes to show that there are alot of really uneducated people about. *sigh*
  7. Great link B Max. I mentioned this earlier, though no one said anything - I guess looking at climate from a geological perspective is lost on some. Things change, species come and go. Of course we are certainly influencing extinction rates, but that is more often than not loss of habitat due to an ever expanding human population - global warming? Not so much.
  8. The one thing that people seem to quickly forget (if they even knew it in the first place) is that the one constant in nature is change. The argument is how much human activity is influencing these natural cycles - something which no one really has an answer to. Granted though it's a great diversion from other and perhaps greater problems wrt our environment - wars, toxic pollutions (ddt, pbcs, dioxin, pharmaceuticals in the waters etc). Question wrt polar bears: What happened to them during the last interglacial 125,000 years ago? Recall, sea levels were greater than 2m of what we have presently, and the climate maxima was warmer than ours - which btw happened 6,000 years ago. I don't recall lots of CO2 emmissions during that timeframe? Anyone? (Not to mention that CO2 is not the worst vilianous gas contributing to warming - water vapour and methane have far greater heat capacities). Carry on.
  9. I don't think as mentioned above that this is the 'next big thing' It is however indicative of 'unintended consequences'. More from Der Spiegel: http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/...,473166,00.html The above link mentions the role that GM crops possibly play in the decline of bees' numbers. I recall reading a piece years ago mentioning the same thing, only in the context of western Canola and bee populations across the praries. As said this is not new, and most likely has nothing to do with global warming (whether you believe it is man made or a natural phenomena). GM crops are a different kettle of fish - and once set out into the natural world can NEVER be recalled. Irresponible to say the least. Monsanto is not exactly the most ethical of corporations - let's face it. So, put your heads back in the sand.
  10. The right is quick to dixie-chick. Indeed - but again they can't fight back with any kind of facts (since there are NONE to support thier twisted view of the situation). So, as usual they name call and smear - makes ya wonder what they are all so darn afraid of - perhaps folk realizing their own duplicity in the matter. Anyway - defending the freedom of speech for those one agrees with is easy - but it is more important to defend the right of expression for those we may not agree with. As usual - the name calling bullies come out - with NO real argument just schoolyard behaviour. pathetic.
  11. Taking cue from the above responses, I can see that some folks here really have no clue when it comes to how their food gets to their tables and what is in it - and what those consquences may be. The curt little answers here show only the depth of idiocy that riegns in certain quarters (well represented on this board). The bee problem has been around for some time - it is getting far worse and also starting to show up in Europe. While no single cause has been identified - yet- there is ample evidence for both herbicide and pesticide use as well as unintended consequences of GM crops. (IOW - it's not just the mites). Furthermore, not only are domestic bees being affected at rates higher than 50% in some areas, but one must keep in mind that wild bees are also affected. Since these critters are chief pollinators of our food supply - this does not bode well. Now, carry on your idiotic and crass attempts at humour.
  12. Why didn't you fill in the blanks for the rest of the genocides.. a few of which are missing btw? You seem to have no problem stating that Germans are responsible for the 'Holocaust' of the Jews (though it was the Nazis). Who killed over 10,000,000 Ukranians? How about the North American Genocides of her Native Inhabitants? How about the ongoing eradication of Iraqis and Palestinians?
  13. Yep, lots. I guess that is what you get when you offer 'rewards'. Currently there is a Canadian boy who has been held there now for five years - since he was a mere child of 15.
  14. I'm sorry: have we met? Pardon me, sorry I didn't mean you I was refering to DogOnPorch. No offense towards you whatsoever!
  15. Its a great way to get to know Bill O'Reilly isn't it ? I didn't know he was mixed up in a sex scandal too. Its a good way to get the news around about Loose Change final cut. 911 is back in the news. This isn't going to go away and people will start to realize it now. I'll be watching too see if they fire her from The View. Maybe Rosie comming out will make more Hollywood types come out. Well, a gf of mine is quite a fan of hers, and it's finally gotten her to look into it and start questioning - so good! Apparantly you cannot contact Rosie via the View any longer. I hope they don't fire her. Check our Rivero's site he is doing a good job on keeping things up to date wrt Rosie. Take care Poly!
  16. Where did I say that I want to see Ahmedinejad 'succeed'? How is Iran a backwards country? The Persian culture is far older than the so called west. Do they have some problems right now? Sure they do - but part in parcel these problems are due to Western meddling beginning with the overthrow of Mossadeq back in 53. Also, have you conveniently forgotten the tyrannical rule of the Shahs? (Puppets!) It is well known in ALL circles that the US tortures her prisoners. Even Gonzales thinks it's acceptable behaviour to torture children - this is simply a fact. Or you do believe that two wrongs make a right? Or do you believe that the US can do no wrong? Guess what - women get beaten murdered raped and savaged there too! Personally, I'd like to see Iran deal with her own problems - they really are none of our business. The sabre rattling and threats of nuclear attack won't work. Or would you like to see another Iraq? Or an irradiated Persia? *sigh* Some folk will never learn.
  17. Hi Poly, just curious as to your thoughts wrt Rosie coming out and stating her beliefs about the 'official' version of 911. The attacks against her remind me of the old board! When one can't argue using FACTS they simply name call and ridicule!! What maroons.
  18. This is indeed good news. What's that matter Dog? Sorry that the UK can't go and blow up some innocent Iranians? You must be sad about that. Your true colours are certainly showing on this board - far clearer than back at the other forum (from which you were banned). What I find rather interesting is the treatment of the British soldiers - no matter how one cuts it they were treated far better than anyone in US/UK custody! Good on Ahmedinejad.
  19. Oh and don't you all think it's a little tired to be always resorting to the "anti-semite" card? Sigh....I guess when all other argument fails - call names eh?
  20. Since when are Jews a race? They are no more a 'race' than Christians or Muslims are. I think the word you might be looking for is 'bigot' it applies better in the above instance.
  21. Uh, I recall when he died and how it was used, it's something I've followed for a while. Don't assume what I know or don't know. The utter commercialisation and outright exploitation of his death was pretty sickening - as bad as the Lynch thing. It was so obvious I'm surprised at how many are sucked in. I feel for the family because they were used and lied to from what I gather just as much. Why not just be honest and tell the family and the country that the lad was killed by friendly fire - afterall it's not a new thing. It's sad allround.
  22. Hi gatekeeper. The majority of the WMD which Saddam had accumulated while he was still the US' patsy were destroyed during the first Gulf War. You can stop shilling. Not to mention that the ones who are actually using weaponry against civilians which can have lasting effects which far outweigh your "VX" gas are the Americans in the forms of DU artillary as well as phosphorous weaponry. So... think about it. Now, can we get back on topic at all? Or do you always like to divert?
  23. If they were really in Iraqi water as Britain claims, don't you think the Brits would have fired on them when approached? The whole thing stinks like a provocation. Agreed. I recall reading that the soldiers involved have already stated that they were in fact in Iranian waters. The US/UK have been the one provoking. Very sad for the Iranian people - but I guess they hate us for our freedoms.
  24. Wasn't CNN the same news organisation who reported on the WMD in Iraq?! Yeah, CNN is in on a big plot! ErEyoVne is lINYg!!!!!!! Run aaWy fsAT!1!!11! If CNN says they were in Iraqi waters, just imagine where Fox will say they were...Norfolk, probably. I'm startled at the degree of cynicism and self hatred there is in the west. I'm surprised the left doesn't just charge toward the nearest cliff en masse to just get it all over with. What an absolutely stupid response. The point I am making is that CNN HAS lied before - so how do you know that they aren't lying again? The push for this has been the current topic of propoganda for some time now - do you really think that is a coincidence? Can you answer with the use of neural capacity or will you simply blather on with a bunch of rhetoric? Sheesh! Oh by the way - how in the world would you even know what my political leanings are (if you buy into the false left/right paradigm) - I'v only made three posts on this board!
