Liberals attempting to silence opposing opinions
buffycat replied to B. Max's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
WRT the article, this sort of tactic is used by all groups to silence views of those they disagree with - nothing really new there. At least they aren't banning books and ideas - yet. There isn't anything stopping those who feel differently with also expressing their views is there? I kinda think this is much ado (and whining) about nothing. -
Worldview of the 'Rapture-Ready' Christians
buffycat replied to kuzadd's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Yeah I watched the video - I'm always astounded at the way these sorts of folks behave - it's groupthink without limit. Both groups are of the type who see only black and white, us or them, they miss all the true shades and colours out of their self inflicted fears and biases. I don't think any of them are truly spiritual either - the religion being used as a justification to oppress others isn't exactly a decent thing to be doing (or so I thought ). But heck, it's a common theme in ALL major religious doctorine. (Keeping in mind that IMV religion and spirituality are not quite the same thing). Anyways - their KOOKS!!! -
Worldview of the 'Rapture-Ready' Christians
buffycat replied to kuzadd's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
WRT their beliefs concerning the Jews, that Jesus will be accepted by them as their saviour and all those who reject Him will suffer for eternity, well from my point of view I'd be rather careful about dealing with these Blood lusting Xtain types who profess the End Time mythology. Seems to me though that both groups (the radical Zionists and the Fundie Christians are mutually using one another). -

Radical Christians hoping for Armageddon?! Say it ain't so?! I thought they were a myth created by the evil 'left'!! -

Interesting that when this sort of thing happens the 'right' blames the 'left' or the 'left' blames the 'right'. What a construct, what BS. Where was the outrage when Prychtulak's (sp) site was shut down by HRC? (oh that must have been the right? or was it the left?) Oh and what about the recent hooplah about PEJ? hypocrits - all of them (as well as some folk around here!!) Talk about shutting down discussions they don't like - yet it is exactly what they do!! Iran's Pattern of Behavior
buffycat replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Scribblet, Iran is not going to nuke Israel - even IF she does manage to aquire nuclear weapons - it would be suicide for the entire nation. (not to mention that SHE hasn't any nukes and won't for at least another 5 - 10 years, then there is the problem with deploying them - but hey don't let facts get in the way of your virulant hatred of all things Muslim). Funny also that you bring up the Jews (as always eh?) while Iran has one of the most populus Jewish enclaves in the ME - yep - 20,000 of them with their own member of Parliament. Further, the mess in Iran can be clearly traced back to UK/US interference in that country - which drove the stampede to the fundamentalist regime now ruling Persia. WRT your tv show - there are fundamentalists in all religious groups - best not to judge all by the actions of a few nutcases (ie Soldiers for Jesus, the Radical Settler movements inspired by Kahane to name just two). But heck - since they are not the 'group' of the day why mention them huh? Your hatred blinds you. -
I'll say it again: Should have left Mossadeq alone - but oh no - he didn't want to allow his country to be raped by Big Oil. Iran has her problems, but they are hers now and up to the Persians to solve. WE need to stay the heck out of it. Bombing them into the stoneage will not help anyone - if anything it will only increase the hatred of the USrael alliances and create even more chaos and bloodshed (oh sorry that is what they want afterall isn't it? Killing is SO good for the koffers!). sheeesh

Right. Should we wait till they have 100 missiles? 200? How many missiles should we let them get before we attack a terrorist organization? Do you ever think before you type? Scott - Palestine is an occupied territory as such the people there have a right to defend themselves and attempt to regain their lands. All would be so easily solved if Israel would dismantle the settlements and get the heck out. Period. 50 missles is nothing - what about Israels hundreds of nukes? And here bloated defense forces? All propped up by the US military industrial complex and the US GOP. Oh, and of course I think before I type, why with the insults all the time? Hamas was democratically elected. Hamas held to a ceasefire for over 18 months, while Israel did not. In fact Israel is currently violating another ceasefire term by flying over Lebanese airspace (something she has Never stopped doing). Besides that - the one screaming for war seems to be the right wing extremists leading the land of Israel. They called for war with Iraq, they are calling now for war with Iran. Fine if they are the ones who will fight it - but they won't be - they are proxy warriors and need only call on their puppy the US. So, who REALLY wants this? The average person in Israel (probably not) the average Palestinian - probably NOT either. Those who beleive in Greater Israel (ie LAND and RESOURCES now belonging to others) YES. That has been the political aim of the Zionist ideology since its inception. (I'll wait for your next insult with anticipation!!)

Israel braces for July war with up to five enemies On Sunday, Israeli military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin told the Cabinet that the Jewish state faces five adversaries in what could result in an imminent confrontation. Yadlin cited Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, Hamas and Al Qaida. snip Already, military intelligence has assessed that Hamas acquired more than 50 missiles with a range of 22 kilometers. Officials said this would allow Palestinian missile strikes on any part of Ashkelon, the largest city in southeastern Israel and which contains strategic sites. *** OMG they have 50 -- 50!!!! missles!! Nuke em now!!

http://www.biotech-info.net/bt_cummins.html The present work has been designed to study the effect of feeding on transgenic potatoes, which carry the CryI gene of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki strain HD1, on the light and electron microscopic structure of the mice ileum, in comparison with feeding on potatoes treated with the -endotoxin isolated from the same bacterial strain. The microscopic architecture of the enterocytes of the ileum of both groups of mice revealed certain common features such as the appearance of mitochondria with signs of degeneration and disrupted short microvilli at the luminal surface. However, in the group of mice fed on the -endotoxin, several villi appeared with an abnormally large number of enterocytes (151.8 in control group versus 197 and 155.8 in endotoxin and transgenic-treated groups, respectively). Fifty percent of these cells were hypertrophied and multinucleated. The mean area of enterocyte was significantly increased (105.3 =B5m2 in control group versus 165.4 =B5m2 and 116.5 =B5m2 in endotoxin and transgenic-treated groups, respectively). Several forms of secondary lysosomes or auotophagic vacuoles were recognized in these cells. These changes were confirmed with the scanning electron microscope which revealed a remarkable increase in the topographic contour of enterocytes (23 =B5m = in control group versus 44 =B5m and 28 =B5m in endotoxin and transgenic-treated groups, respectively) at the divulged surface of the villi. The basal lamina along the base of the enterocytes was damaged at several foci. ************ Great article for those interested in the proliferation of GM variants and Bt. Especially wrt the CCD we are currently witnessing. As an organic gardener I have been watching this for some time now, the use of Bt whether as a spray or actually encoded into the genetics of the plants is something that we should all be aware of and careful of. Personally, I don't like science playing G-d in this way.

An interesting perspective on the Middle east
buffycat replied to fellowtraveller's topic in The Rest of the World
Yep. Here's a scenario this whole thing reminds me of: "Mommy!!! I keep hitting the wasp nest with a stick and they keep attacking me!!!" Can anyone say 'provocation'? Yep, I knew ya could! Seriously though, the West has turned into the little bully of the schoolyard who happens also to be the teachers pet - she continually dips other's ponytails into inkwells then screams bloody murder when called onto the carpet for her bad behaviour - even going so far as to blame the poor girl whose ponytail is now blackened! (Cuz - you know those terrorists all wear ponytails). But hey guys, keep praying for more war - I'm sure you'll get it! Do you guys have orgasms when they bomb those nasty Muslims? -

Just a little reminder: http://mediamatters.org/items/200412010011 Coulter is simply a mouthpiece - no substance - a 'female' shock jock. (If she is a she???) Here's another gem full of 'substance' (the question is what is the substance?) http://youtube.com/watch?v=84EjWeTMBZs

buffycat replied to fellowtraveller's topic in The Rest of the World
Leaving them alone means quit screwing with their politcs, assassinating their leaders and installing radical puppet regimes. Should've left Mossadeq alone, in fact - leave the entire region alone wrt black ops, military interventionism, and funding of extremist groups. Sorry that you guys are all so full of hate - reminds me of another time...not so long ago that there aren't folk alive today that can tell you all about it. (Of course you won't hear from them on the war drumming msm!). Carry on your drooling over more war and more innocents dying - afterall they are just muslims - inferior and well, not even human eh? *spit* -
Chavez talks....Petro-Canada walks.
buffycat replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in The Rest of the World
PETRO Canada = Pierre Elliot Trudeau Ripped Off Canada. Chavez is trying to do something different, out of line with the Big Oil cartels and the WB, IMF. Seems they are his only vicitms... if you can call Big Oil a 'victim'. (cough). -
Hi shoggoth, The thing about all this climate change stuff is that there is NOT one single variable which controls everything. Also, understanding ocean/atmospheric interactions wrt driving climate is in its infancy as a science (partly due to computing restrictions and modelling). So, while at times sunspot activity 'may' be a more influential variable, it does not mean it is always the MOST influential. There are cycles in nature, some short term, some long term, some in the middle. Take for instance the Milankovitch cycles, while they are not all of the same lengths and at times some are more 'important' than others (ie perihelion during glacial events) they all play a role, ebbing and flowing along with other variables as well. What bothers me is the current focus on ONE small variable - CO2 - whose role is cleary not completely understood - but it is taken as some kind of FACT - that is we reduce our Co2 output everything will be peachy!! This is utter nonsense - since there are a myriad of other variables which need to be included and which we as humans have NO influence over. Keep in mind that during the last interglacial (maxima 125,000 ybp) the entire West Antarctic Ice sheet melted - now who can we blame that on? So, you see - things are not as simple as the alarmists want you to believe. GW is moneygrab, rights grab and politicised science at its worst. One effect of increased CO2 which isn't talked about, but is certainly proven is the effect of dissolved CO2 in our oceans and how that effects the marine food chain. To me - this is far more reason to slow our output (if we can) than any kind of atmospheric warming which may or may not be occuring. You see, CO2 when dissolved in the oceans forms carbonic acid - which in turn pushes the pH down, resulting in acidic waters. These acids eat away at the tests of microfauna (basis of the food chain) and well - they die. It is not only microfauna which is effected as corals are too. So again, you see it is NOT a simple little: stop using fossil fuels and the world will be right scenario - as those pushing this issue (for POLITICAL reasons) would have you believe. How much were you taught in school about Earth History and paleoclimates? My guess is not much, and sadly few others have any clue as to climate change over time wrt the geologic record (not just the last 30 years - try looking at the last 3 milllion (since the onset of regular glaciations). Are we influencing our environment? YES!! Of course we are - but IMO GW is the Least of our worries - but it is a convenient distraction from other far more pressing issues: fresh water contamination being one of them, disease being another. One more thing, ever wonder why we are all being asked to reduce our use of fossil fuels and energy yet the military is burning it in illegal wars without a worry? Think about it - those planes, tanks, ships, hummers, bombs etc release FAR more CO2 than any SUV driving consumer here. (off topic I know, but rather odd IMO). Anyhow, I don't advocate as some here do to continue to overuse our resources, but I do advocate being careful wrt how we can 'fix' a problem, which may or may not be due to ONE variable (political - not scientific). I don't trust politicians - never will.

Aluminimum was used in the constructions of the WTC tower and the planes. Alumininium is a combustable metal. IOW - once again you have your facts wrong. Wrong Riverwind. Aluminium is non-magnetic and non-combustible, properties invaluable in advanced industries such as electronics or in offshore structures. http://www.world-aluminium.org/production/...properties.html More at the link. Try again, or don't bother and spare us all.

It's not just Rue, it is also other posters who do this. While Rue is rather verbose - he is not as guilty as certain other folks on here who perpetuate a negative stereotype - why just look at this little gem from jbg: "Wow, next you'll hear that the Israelis add blood of Muslims to their Pesach matzohs." It implies that those who don't agree with the "any criticism of Israel is anti-semitism" mantra run around thinking and saying these sorts of things too. It diverts the thread and ends rational discussion - it also insults the intelligence of the other thread participants. But hey, that's part of the game. It's completely counter-productive and is meant to be. It could have been pointed out that it is not only Israel (certain elements anyways) who profit enormously from the so called War on Terror - many US firms do too - and Canadian suppliers. I don't think anyone would automatically jump in and say "Ohhh and Americans use the blood of Muslims in their Freedom Fries!!" Sounds rather silly doesn't it? Again, it also adds nothing. Anyways, the thread itself could have been an interesting discussion about how many lands, including Israel DO profit from the misery of others - instead though it turns into an accusitory bash fest of anyone who might have something critical to say about some Israeli policies. I think you know the drill well Kuzadd - they do it to anyone they disagree with whether the subject is Israel, Iraq, US Imperialism, 9/11 official lies, the Drug Wars - anything. There is no real desire to engage in rational debate - it's a mudsling fest for them. Ad hominen, misdirection yadda yadda. It's tiresome and old.

Lame Rue, lame. I haven't ever said the things you elude to in your above tirade. I actually see a difference between peoples and their governmental admins. I do not lump all Jews in with the Israeli Admins. Just as I won't lump all Canadians in with our own Admins. YOU have - clearly here. Sad Rue, while your answers are usually overly verbose - you don't usually stoop so low as to write the junk in the above post. As I said: Lame. Did you megaphone go off? Hasbarfa alert? sheesh. Israel benefits from the instability - plain and simple. So to do factions at work in the PA - or anywhere else whose main aim is power - not the people. Same folks different hats. Israel could have and still can do much to calm the waters - she won't, it's not in her Administrations interest to do so. It would be simple though: Leave the occupied territories and allow the Palestinians their right to self determination (something that many Israelis DO recognize and support). WRT Naomi, I like her writing always have. You might not, each to his own. Now, I await your next 'book' on the issue. Please, do send me a hasbarfa alert!

Your first link does not work. The second link is meaningless without proper context. Keep in mind that we only left the 'Little Ice Age' in the late 1800's. So, I ask what was your point in posting these? Did you read the OP article?

Good article from Klein. Israel has always reaped a peculiar benefit from the unstable position with her nieghbours and those she occupies. It has been clear for many years that she has a very well developed 'security' sector and military complex. Which begs the question: If she is so successful in this manner, and has a economic boom currently in these 'war' related avenues - they why oh why is the US still funding her with aid MORE than any other country? I think Israel is now ranked somewhere within the 20 most wealthy states - so why not only the continuence of AID but also the increasing of AiD? IMO this close association between Israel and the US has done more harm to both soveriegn nations (if you can separate them at this point). So, Klein is correct - Israel has profitted greatly by the use of fear tactics and maniplations. (not just in private sector but in the aid sector as well). Google Results of 'increase US aid to Israel

What kind of retarded remark is that? Sheesh - even though you and I don't get on well I certainly expect far better from you. Did you read the article? Do you have anything to say about Dr. Patterson's research? Keep in mind: Global Warming = Open your Wallets.
-
To be frank, even the supposed 95% of yeah-sayers do not all support the standard hype of the Alarmists. The 'Deniers' aren't denying that the trend as of late is towards warming, what they question - not deny - is the amount to which human activity is to blame. It is clear that via a small time frame things seem to be warming - but the question remains - compared to what? There is SO much misinformation about this whole debate, and it is further muddied by the scientific illiteracy of the average Joe/Jane. I posted this article and sadly it got very little attention. Even though it is pure and unadulterated science looking at climate change over a period of thousands of years. The research was exhaustive and very well done - and NOT funded by any oil industry lackies (much to the dismay of the 'sky is falling' crowd of Gorzukis). It's too bad we don't teach science or history in classrooms anymore (read Critical thinking) - we are simply churning out a bunch of automotons, ready and willing to follow the company line! Should we be addressing our use of fossil fuels? Absolutely - but not for the GW reasons. IMO this whole GW thing is distracting to what is far more important: chemical pollution of our environment via destruction of water resources - through plastics, drugs, overuse, and illegal dumping. Let's face it - oil we can do without, but WATER we cannot. Just watch for the water wars - they will not be televised.

Here is another piece, again I'm not sure if this stoning has been stopped: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2..._stoned_in.html There are numbers here for various Iranian governmental departments - if anyone feels so inclined to give them a ring and voice their support on the ban of stoning.

Was the Japanese internment wrong?
buffycat replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in The Rest of the World
Hey Betsy, since you support wholeheartedly the internment of people based on their genetic origin and or cultural affiliations, how do you feel about the Ukranian Internment of 1914 via the War Measures Act? I guess you would support that too huh? I will further guess that you would have been right behind Hitler's locking up of the communists in pre war Germany? I guess the locking up and systematic killing of Jews, Homosexuals, Roma, Communists etc. sits okay with you too? Afterall - internment is the first step isn't it? You may want to acquaint yourself with this: http://www.ucc.ca/media_releases/2005-08-24_4/index.htm How about we round up all of those immigrants whose country we don't happen to get along with right now? Afghans, Palestinians, Iranians, Chinese, North Koreans etc? In your supreme view this is all well and good? Face it - your position is indefensible, especially the one where you consider yourself so darn Supreme!
