  1. I believe its a womans right to choose abortion or not. Many here think that its a womans right to ask for permission.
  2. The choice belongs to the person who is pregnant. The only ethics that matter are those of the person making the choice. Your or my or anyone elses ethics have no bearing.
  3. And as I have mentioned, I don't care what thier reasons are for wanting an abortion. I see no reason whatsoever for them to fill out that part of the paperwork. The woman wants an abortion she gets to have an abortion in a medically safe manner.
  4. I like that. Very thoughtful.
  5. Its a good use of the healthcare system because they're not in their bathrooms using coat-hangers and bleach.
  6. What about it? They wish to end their pregnancy they get to end their pregnancy.
  7. I know. We are talking about people who wish to end their pregnancy.
  8. Reasonable? It's reasonable to tell a woman she must remain pregnant even if she doesn't want to remain pregnant? Think of the most idiotic, most deplorable reason possible to have an abortion. Whatever that reason is is reason enough.
  9. Oh absolutly. There is no need for the Liberal party - or any other party - to come up with an actual rational defense policy. The last 40 years have shown that. We can have ridiculous defense policies and it doesn't matter one whit. Edit to add: I should add that it doesnt matter one whit until such time as the public starts to give a hoot. Then the government of the day will pander to that and announce some new acquisition or other. Its all domestic politics and has been since the end of the Korean war. Canada has no crucial foriegn interests. We have no need of a military that can go anywhere in the world and no allies who's soveriegnty depends upon Canada having that ability. So we can and have kept Centurion tanks around until they were falling apart - then bought Leopards and kept them around until they were pretty much useless - then bought second hand Leopard II's that were on thier way to the scrap heap. We kept Restigouche class and St. Laurent class ships around until they were good for nothing at all. Built new Halifax's to replace some of them and we are going to keep them around until they are good for nothing but diving wrecks. Oberons the same - when they were no good for nuthin we bought 2nd hand subs destined for the scrap yards.. F18's same thing. We'll keep flying them until the politicians see an opportunity for a fine Speach from the Throne. The fact is There is no need for this country to do anything different.
  10. Its not governance. Its information gathering. Its nothiing more than a survey of public opion...actually a survey of those-who-give-a-shit opinion. Most Canadians aren't even going to bother with it. But the Liberals will be able to hold this up as consulting with Canadians on what Canadians want. Not that you or Derek 2.0 are going to get what you want. Nor is NDHQ going to get what they want. Nor is the Conservative party - except they won't be able to say that Canadians want something else.
  11. Very very valuable. The goverment will then have an idea of what the voting public wants/expects. That in itself justifies the entire exercise. From that information they will then know what they can/cannot/should/shouldnot do to keep voters voting for them. Cut back on Healthcare so's we can get Amphibious support vessels? We'll be crucified by the voters next election. Pulic supports building new Supply ships for the Navy? Then we shall make it so and bask in the glory of doing what the voters want.
  12. I played along also..."Are you sitting in front of your computer now?? ..."Yes, yes I am." "Please click on the Start menu" " Start menu....hmmmm. sorry I don't seem to have a start menu" "Sir-Sir, you must have a start menu. it is down in the lower left of the screen" "What it look like?' "it looks like the Windows logo thing..." "Nope sorry, don't see anything like that" etc etc etc until finally... "What operating system do you have?? "Safari something or other I think" "Safari? just a moment... Sir, do you have an Apple computer or a windows computer?" "An Apple computer." "Are you in front of your Apple computer right now?" "Yes I am." "Sir, please take your Apple computer and put it in your ass!" Good help is hard to find I suppose...even in Mumbai
  13. Me: 'But Captain-". Captain:' Are you about to argue with me Sparks? You better make it good cause you'll never have the opportunity to argue with me again. So go ahead Sparks, make your argument.'" . Me: 'ah , nuthing, captain.'

  14. Damn right the union goes to bat for them. But thats not why the guy isn't sacked.
  15. Union approved? Why do you suppose government seeks union approval? oh, wait you answered that So you already know why governments seek union approval. So I ask myself, 'Self', I ask, 'what is it Argus wants?' Governments not seek union approval and unions keep thier mouths shut. Such a thing would require so much of the middle-class who are now public servants to remain silent. I'm sorry Argus. The middle class are not going to keep thier mouths shut. They too pay taxes. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell that they are going to shut the Eff up and take it. The elected (often by acclimation because no one runs against them) union bosses know the above and pander to thier electorate. You see? Its called democracy. What was it the PS unions were lamenting? The Conservatives are going to cut back on services ! Cutting services inevitably lead to job cuts. Was that something the tax-paying middle-class public sector employee's should approve? ... and if they disapprove should they remain silent? Should they not pester thier union bosses to 'think of the children!' and actually Say something? Should your opinion about you having no concern for them carry any weight with them at all?
  16. I suspect the Public Sector Unions seem likely to support those parties which you do not support and thus the need to remove PS Unions from the realm of Political discourse. Your contention seems to be that Politicians pander to PS unions in order to get that unions support and that pandering will take the form of higher pay + benefits - Guaranteed! ... at least for elections. You and I both know that votes are cast in secret ballots not in groups by union bosses.I know many a union guy that thought the union supporting the Liberals was atrocious because the Liberals were going to drive the country bankrupt. They went ahead - so they claimed - to vote conservative. Of course they also went ahead and worked tons of overtime too - but I digress... Whats oversized about the public sector? Whats overpaid about the public sector? Whats getting little in return for taxes? Treasury Board - like wizards - never hire too many or too few . There's always just enough workers to do the job that their managers tell them they need - within budget restrictions anyways. But then budgets are outside the bounds of Treasury Board. That responsibility lies in Cabinet. You know damn well that workers go to whoever has the better pay/benefits. If government does not pay teachers enough then government will have a hard time fullfilling governments promises regarding education. If government does not pay BrainSurgeons enough then government will find they have a hard time fullfilling promised health care standards. They may even overpay them to make up for a competitors benefits in order to keep them on. And may I add, Brain surgery only benefits a very few. So what do taxpayers get out of that? Why Nuthin of course.
  17. Sorry, seems the possible existence of 122 was hypothesized a while ago... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_periodic_table
  18. I read your link and have concluded the mans a fool or a politician - perhaps both. He derides multiculturalism (Multicultism as he see's it) as forcing most white men into muttering platitudes instead of being honest. Dosanjh's words: Of course, three or four paragraphs earlier he says this: Now that is a meaningless platitude. As Argus well knows, those very anchors are what fuels debate one these very pages and many other forums, most notably political forums. His anchors are not fixed in any way shape or form except through the laws of the land. As Overthere said in post #3 Dosanjh then provides examples of how One of his examples is this: Oh right. We should now discuss the corruption of Indo-Canadians. At least Indo-Canadians in Surrey BC. Never mind applying the law to individuals allegedly breaking laws - lets instead discuss the failures of Indo-Canadians race/culture instead. That is bigotry in its full blown anti-inclusive form. Blame all into-Canadians for the actions of a few; Encourage all to discuss how Indo-Canadians fail to conform to Dosanjh's imaginary Anchors. Never mind the law and never mind applying it. Lets point our fingers at the group and say 'They failed to adopt Canadian Values'. Dosanjh supplies another example of how discussion is stultified by multi-cultualism in the form of "a strata council executive ordained that its meetings will be conducted in Mandarin only" The very same issue that has its own thread on these very pages. The very issue that an actual white man filed a complaint with that legal body the Human Rights Commission. Dosanjh: and then claims Never mind the fear of losing elections - thats got nothing to do with it. Instead its fear of the blogosphere and Progressives calling them racists. Never mind that Richmond is a functioning democracy and the golden platter of opportunity has now been extended to those that want to see an end to chinese-only signs on various commercial establishments in Richmond. Democracy ceases to function, apparently, when multiculturalists like me cry Racism! Bigotry!. The two most powerful words in the English language - puts a stop to all discussion! Yah. Bullshit.
  19. Just for fun google 'headline fails' to see how headline writers walk a very fine grammatical line. Use google images in the search. Even better http://english.glendale.cc.ca.us/badheds.html
  20. Do you mean the change of tenses from present tense 'severs' in the headline to the past tense 'severed' in the paragraph? Headline writing is a weird task of word-working. The purpose of the headline is to attract attention and let the reader know what the following story will be about yet do so with as few words as possible. Headlines are allowed by the public to play around with facts a little bit but only just a little bit. The headline uses the present tense because the breaking of diplomatic relations with Iran is new and had'nt been reported before Plus also too 'severs' in the headline means the event is happening right now at this very moment and hopefully will grab the readers attention. Since this diplomatic development is only being reported now for the first time and only occurred less than 24 hours ago - and its in a headline - the use of severs is acceptable. To be accurate and fully conform with the first paragraph the headline would need to use the word severed. "Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran, expelled Iranian diplomats" ,while accurate, does not convey any sense of immediacy. A reader of headlines could very well think the headline is talking about an event that occurred years and years ago, would be of historical interest only and passed over in search of something more interesting - maybe Trudeau's hair or something or Putin going shirtless again. To avoid that perception and still remain consistent with the tense in the first paragraph, the headline would need extra words. "Yesterday Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran and expelled Iranian diplomats" would work quite nicely ... except that is a good opening sentence for the following paragraph and not a headline. Editors attack such headline wordiness with great zeal. A habit learned in the days of type-setting. Dump 'Yesterday'; change severed to severs; replace 'and' with a comma; change expelled to expels. Fourteen characters are saved; the headline changes from boring old past events to the much more exciting present and closely conforms to the story that follows since is speaks of very recent events. An other option is to change the tenses of the paragraph to conform to the present tense of the headline. Unfortunately such a paragraph would be a very strange thing to read. Because the event being reported actually did happen in the past it must be written in the past tense. Remember that this is now information being conveyed to the reader and not a very very basic headline. The reporter is reporting an event that happened on Sunday - not right now. The reporter is absolutely correct to write the paragraph in the past tense and in fact pretty much had to in order to write a coherent article.
  21. Some Light might be. But that does not mean all light reaching Earth is.
  22. I think that describes many - including yourself - to a Tee.
  23. Thats a pretty feeble basis for a claim that Trudeau is not listening to Allies. "Diplomatic sources say..."
  24. No need. smallc appears to understand that quite well.
  25. Was there a coup? An assassination? Was Mr.Harper kidnapped? Was Mr.Harris? The right to carry through on their promises was indeed afforded them...until finally they were both given the heave-ho by the electorate through elections. Criticism - even Ballistic criticism - isn't denial of Right.
