The costs and wastes of official bilingualism
Peter F replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
But most, if not all, of those big shots have francophone employees somewhere - and even Anglo employees - that they must also deal with in regards to oversight; communications; Grievances etc etc. employees as much as citizens get to deal with the federal government in their preferred language. -

Well said. As long as Quebec is part of this country then bilingualism at the Federal Government level is necessary - despite the inevitable examples of silliness. -

the bigger picture? That everyone else must learn English or they are fools yet you need not learn another language or you would qualify as a fool? -
What improvements would you like to see in this discussion forum?

Betsy: Yes and No. Is it the terrorist act that invites disdain and ridicule etc? Would it matter one whit if the terrorist was of one religion or another? Is it necessary for terrorists to be muslim for your words to be true? or will any terrorist do?- 1,890 replies

But the creator made it so humans, no matter wether Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid or whatever, can mix and procreate amongst each other with not one iota difference to not-mixing. Given that then what makes you think the creator meant for no mixing? I think you are invoking the creators intent despite what the creator intended.

I've noticed the same. Most English would rather shoot a dog than deign to learn another language. It is bizarre . -
Sure. Why not?
-
If anyone is saying 'don't mix with other races' then yah They are also being racist.
-
Good point. Is there some elitist cabal of Caucasians trying to destroy non-caucasians? Are they in some weird struggle with the other elitist cabal Taxme mentions?
-
Waitaminit....It's un-natural for caucasians to be attracted to and possibly pro-create with non-caucasians? Brainwashing is required before that could ever happen?

First you need to show that those whose names start with the letter T are not qualified for the promotion. The requirements aren't that the PM must choose the most qualified but that the PM chooses from among the qualified. If the PM chooses all women from among the qualified then thats what he gets to do. If the PM chooses all men thats what he gets to do. If he chooses only judges whose last name begins with T then thats what he gets to do. Whats the actual complaint? The PM chose too many women! - yes they're qualified but nevertheless.,,And a native! - yes - qualified. But com'on! A native? really?. And a few white guys, yes - but even their qualifications are in doubt because they were just added to make things look good. Thats the complaint right?
-
bullshit. Reality? What reality Argus? You're reality that there's no way females/some-ethnicity-or-other can rank way up there on jurist qualifications? My reality is that anyone can rank way up there no matter their gender or ethnicity or lack of ethnicity. Statistics? Stats say most legal types are white males therefore there is no way non-white-males could number among those most qualified? Never mind individual skills and experience. Its impossible to find 15 non-white males of the legal profession who could possibly rank way up there? Common Sense? Your common sense that claims if they're not white-males then there is something shady going on?
-
A claim that is without any merit. What makes you think they are not the most qualified? Their non-whiteness? Their Gender? Is there some list somewhere that shows who is the most qualified? Something you can point to and say See? They ignored that? Anything at all besides gender or ethnicity obviously reducing qualificationess?
-
Aren't they? What's not 'Best' about them? So far the only argument I've seen is 'They aren't white males and therefore they probably aren't the best'. Edit to add: The judges are selected from a pool of judges who have been vetted and approved for their potential appointments by Legal beagles of the provinces and federal government. They are in a pool for the sole reason that there's no way in hell any list of 'Best' could be made.
-
Im quite sure that competence was the number 1 factor. Then with at pool of competence+qualified they elfin well appointed whoever they liked - as every other damned prime-minister in the past has done. Even Harper.
-
I deny everything. The judges appointed by Harper are fully competent to do - and have done - the job they were appointed to as I am sure the recent rash of appointments will also be. All is well.
-
Nor can they be competent apparently.

American Horror Story

Saying "I am incredibly grateful I live in Canada." is not wishful thinking. Nor is it too late. -
I am thinking the same thing Cyber. Why would the guys hair be the focus of political debate? Why are some folks surprised that it isn't? Baffling.

What direction the Conservatives Should Take

" Don't stay at it year after year claiming pogey for much of the year and expecting me to pay you to sit around on your ass." I do expect such and - thanks very much - you are paying me to do so. I am very pleased and equally grateful for your contributions. -
lordy. Whats to discuss? Mediocrity? Its not all that difficult to pick anyplace in the world and point out the mediocrity of that place. Makes me wonder if there is some place that is not mediocre according to Argus. If so, would there not also be mediocre aspects to that non-mediocre place? The whole things a pointless waste of space. May as well discuss the best sports team ever - endlessly - and convince no one of anything.

Your Thoughts of the Supreme Court of Canada
Peter F replied to square's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is nothing stopping Legislatures from passing minimum sentencing legislation that meets the SC's concerns. Or just saying FU and using the notwithstanding clause. So the buck stops at parliament. Its a perfect system! -
The NAS' position is simple: Theistic creation of all things is unsupported by science. Yes, they also said, as you have pointed out, that Theistic creation beliefs are not contradicted by science. The two statements are 100% in agreement: There is no evidence to support Theistic creation and there is no evidence to counter the same. Science has shown that all observed phenomena can be explained without the need to invoke a God. For unexplained phenomena Science is pretty sure it will find a non-Theist explanation for that too - they're working on it. The actions of God need not be invoked to explain things. You have somehow come to the conclusion that if the NAS "officially declared evidences to support of God created universe in numerous areas of science" , then they have evidence of such. The NAS never said that. Ever. You have jumped to a conclusion. And that is what everyone for the last 20odd pages have been trying to tell you.
