Harper - The International Embarrassment Continues
Peter F replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What consequence should there have been? And were the UN the people to apply the consequence? Once the shooting started - it seems the shooting never really ended due to parties who had no intention of ending it - The Peace-keeping was over. To say that the UN failed at stopping genocide or failed to impose a peace is true - but I would argue those things were never the Peace-keepers mandate - that is not what they were there for as evidenced by the obvious fact that they were not equipped or supplied to the level of being able to impose a peace or even end slaughters. It isn't the UN's peacekeeping thats a myth but UN peacemaking certainly is a myth. Individual nations or perhaps groups of nations can certainly move in and impose a peace - as has happened many times in the past - but those nations are also accepting of the fact that by doing so they too will become part of the conflict. NATO vs Serbia for example. No UN necessary for that although it was nice (but certainly not necessary) to have the UN seal of approval. -

I was under the impression that UN peace-keeping missions were implemented when two-sides to a conflict want a third-party buffer force or group of observers to oversee a desired peace/cease-fire. Obviously when the two sides or usually only one of the two sides has no desire for the agreement to continue then the peace-keeping operation will be a complete waste of time. At that point its best to pull the boys and girls out. I think we run into problems when we begin to think our peace-keeping ops should become peace imposing ops. The UN is not a perfect organization and is not designed to impose itself on conflicts or even end conflicts but it will try to facilitate and end. -

Muslim Hysteria Reaches New Low in Texas

Thats not what happened, Big Guy. The engineering teacher knew what it was because the student showed it to him earlier in the day. it was a home-made clock. That teacher then suggested to the student that it would be best to not show it to any other teacher. Kinda weird thing to say. So the student puts the clock back in his back-pack and carries on with his school day taking the Engineering teachers advice and not telling other teachers that he made a clock all by himself. In English class the clock, still in the backpack, does what electro-clocks do and emits a beeping sound. English teacher says show me whats making that sound so student takes the clock out of his back-pack so the teacher can see it. and at this point, what, when student shows teacher what he/she takes to be a bomb, would be the appropriate thing to do? For safety of the students as first priority and assuming, for safety's sake, the most dangerous thing? Well, lets imagine what the shocked and surprised English teacher should do. Do we all have what we consider to be the appropriate action in our minds? Then lets carry on with what actually happened; English teacher takes backpack with bomb to principals office and shows it to him and says the student brought it to school. Principal sends teacher back to class, keeps the backpack and bomb with him in his office and calls the police. Police arrive and visit the principle who shows them the bomb and tells them the kid brought it to school. Priniciple, I suppose over the intercom - but perhaps by personal messanger - calls kid to his office. Kid goes to principles office where he is confronted by the police and asked 'what is this?' He tells them its a clock but they're not sure so arrest him and handcuff him as per normal police procedures. The police then escort the kid and the bomb outside to a police vehicle and drive to the police station. At the police station the kid is questioned further about the so-called-clock and his parents are called. Then they let him go while the case is investigated further. Yes, that is precisely how the police and principle of a school would react to a bomb-scare. Exactly by the book just like they did. -

Minimum Wage and a Roboticized Economy

Well, no, of course not. They're machines. They don't scream even when melted down for scrap. The owner's of the machines certainly scream for maintenance though and they will scream very loudly until they get it. -
Minimum Wage and a Roboticized Economy

In the Utopian capitalist world there are no employee's whatsoever - yet, somehow, people buy their stuff. Of course the guy said such a utopian robotized existence will never happen. He's even fully in favour of income distribution in some manner or other. So I'm not so sure why minimum wage drives capitalists nuts. As the man says jobs may come and go but other jobs will arise. Companies fail cause they go broke and other companies start up. Minimum wage will have very little to do with a functioning economy. -

...and during bomb-scares the fire-alarm to the dismay of the teachers and cheers of the students, went off and everyone filed outside and the Fire department came and the police came and everyone stood around waiting for the bell to call them back in. That did not happen in Irving Texas -

I think the school/police were already looking for some opportunity to Lord it over the muslim kid. Teacher reacts to possible bomb: What would be the proper thing to do? Evacuate the school? One would think so. Did that happen? No. Principle of school waits till some police officers arrive then they call the kid to the office to explain wether the project is bomb or not. Then, they handcuff the kid and take him - and the possible bomb - down to the police station. I think they knew damn well it wasn't a bomb but saw the opportunity to let the muslim kid know that the school and the police were definitely not going to put up with any muslim kids effrontery of being a Muslim. -
It most certainly is. Are not Lynch mobs a reflection of the populace? Certainly are.

I agree. Thats precisely why they are steadfast in their announced appeal of the ruling: Votes! it may win votes. And Cybercoma is right. The tories should know better. But then thats the Tories isn't it?

Actually the English teacher didn't see that. The engineering teacher, who was shown the clock earlier in the day, said "If I was you I wouldn't be showing this to the other teachers". -
reminds me of the Navy; "I taught ya everyting I knows. Ya learned it and still knows F***-all!"

and just to further twist the knife: Even if the Supreme Court in all its wisdom, should overturn the ruling, the particular woman in this case will still retain her justly acquired Canadian Citizenship. Thats because when she was sworn in it had been ruled by the courts as entirely legal for her to wear her head-wraps during oath taking ceremony. So she will be sworn in and forever after be a Canadian citizen. All is well with the world.
-
No. The ruling exists right now. The woman will not remove her Niqba and take the citizenship oath and be given the document and have her hand shaken in welcome by the presiding individual. All because the Federal court ruled that she need not remove it. And until - if ever - the Supreme Court overturns that ruling, thats the way it will be. Thats the facts. semantics be damned.
-
It is an actual ruling. The Federal court ruled that she need not remove her niqab. How did that part go over your head? The government says they intend to appeal the federal courts ruling - as the system allows them to do. That means that the Supreme Court - should they decide to hear the appeal - could either uphold the ruling or say the federal court was wrong and overturn the ruling. You see? Uphold or Overturn? That means the ruling stands until it is overturned. So to say "its not even an actual ruling yet" is obviously wrong.

Exactly. The teacher would praise him and his (or her) efforts and ingenuity. Good Job non-muslim kid! This kid? oh well for safety sake we shall assume he is trying to kill us all! Even though the kid has never tried to kill anyone anywhere anywhen. ISIS man! Therefore this kid is dangerous. -
My mom did get into a seniors home - a very nice SaskGovernment one too. Should I die waiting for an operation because the staff are busy giving someone else an operation - Note that I could not give the tiniest of shits if its a foreigner or not - then thats ok with me.

In response to Moonlight Grahams post above: Precisely why neither we nor Europe will do anything beyond lip service to the problem. But the problems won't go away. Even if they all shut down the borders and decree 'NO MORE', the refugees will still be coming in and they will remain illegally and the strife and animosity will grow even worse. Deal with it or suffer the consequences. I suspect us and Europe prefer consequences.

Hundreds of thousands or millions of old folks? I think you are misinformed.

Hey if you want to pay for your medical care there are many private institutions that will happily let you pay them. Even in the States! You need not wait in line for nobody! Me? It doesn't bother me in the least that some ol'fart who never paid a dime towards it is getting healthcare nonetheless. I Like it!
