Chrystia definitely has some of those "Medieval issues" with the Russians. From the mother's side, mainly...Nazi grandfather...and all that. Common with Ukrainians during WW2 as many viewed the Germans at the time as liberators...that would change...
Same with Volga German types like myself...only to a much lesser degree. Stalingrad is much further away than Kiev. Stalin liquidated most of the remaining Volga Germans in the USSR around 1942 as a precaution.

By your standard why is Trump afraid to testify? Why is Pence afraid to testify? Why is every single member of the administration afraid to testify? Schiff spoke to the whistleblower? Who gives a shit? The whistleblower only pointed to people he'd heard talking about Trump's phone call. The committee has now heard directly from these people. Why would they need the whistleblower? Because they want to make him suffer. Because they want to expose him as much as possible and discourage further whistleblowers - hopefully without being charged themselves with violating the whistleblower law.
Trump will be the only president whose grave needs to be hidden or guarded 24/7 to keep it from being used as a toilet.

Testify, are you crazy? You get the right lawyer up there asking the right questions, they can completely take you apart. Any time you’re under oath, you’re vulnerable. Doesn’t matter if your guilty or not. Although... I’m not sure if they are testifying under oath in this round yet.
Note unwilling to testify does not necessarily mean “afraid” to.
