  1. "Populism: a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups." Racism is different than populism. It would be nice to have a moderate populist party in Canada...or the US. Canadians aren't racist enough to elect the PPC, who are more racist than populist. NDP could be called populist, but are made up of naive radicals with dumb ideas and thus won't be elected. Except for in BC, which contains a lot of hippie treehuggers....probably because of all the trees out there.
  2. I wouldn't take the Order of Canada from that ninny,
  3. Do you put a star or an angel on the top of your Christmas tree? I opt for a Mercedez logo.
  4. What's up Black Dog!! Secular holiday celebrating the birth of Christ 😂 Santa is for the kids, yo. Give the gift of frankincense this CHRISTmas.
  5. For all of Trump's faults, at least he had the balls to stand up to China and tell them to suck it.
  6. If you'd rather save a couple of bucks on some cheap plastic crap or a couple hundreds bucks on some stolen phone tech and throw western civilization under the bus have fun with that. Count me out.
  7. So does China. Manufacturing jobs, and they get to spy on Apple's factories in China and steal all of Apple's intellectual property and then sell the technology back to Americans at an undercut price (Hauwei, OnePlus etc). They do this with televisions too (TCL, Hisense) and every other type of IT tech. It must be nice to not have to pay any R&D in order to beat your competition. Go to any Chinese market/mall and you're going to find a ton of cheaply made counterfeit goods. Slap a different brand label on them and you have products/companies like Hauwei. This is how Chinese companies and the government do business. They're thieves. Don't get me started on India 😂 And if a US company doesn't like something, the Chinese gov will just bully/scare them into compliance, just like they treat their own citizens. #allies https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/nortel-collapse-linked-to-chinese-hackers-1.1260591 https://globalnews.ca/news/7275588/inside-the-chinese-military-attack-on-nortel/
  8. You're living under a rock. China has been destroying the relationship, not the other way around. I think we should take as much of our business out of China as we can, and hope every other democratic country does the same. The US needs to lead on that. I'm very willing to pay higher prices on goods to do it. I think it would be absolutely fantastic if the Chinese economy went into a significant tailspin for a very long time, and they'd have nobody to blame but themselves. Canada should also expel all Chinese government officials from the country until they clean up their act. All IT technology from Chinese companies should also be banned for sale in Canada immediately. I actually think we should take every measure possible to undermine China in any way we can, minus direct military conflict (unless they attack one of our key interests first). It is the new Cold War unfortunately and it's their fault because they're a bunch of a-holes, bullies, and thieves and none of it should be tolerated for a second longer.
  9. Do Francophone schools in Quebec have students sing the national anthem in the mornings like much of the rest of the country? I'm beginning to think most do not: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/schools-should-sing-national-anthem-says-st-lazare-resident-1.1331635 Do they sign the anthem in indigenous schools on reserves? Is there a school in the continental US that doesn't sing the US anthem and/or recite the pledge of allegiance? Doubtful. Here's a wedge issue: does a voter consider themselves "Canadian" in nationality, and are they glad to be one?
  10. Does it matter if everyone gets along if we sell our democracy to the Chinese, Indian, and Russian governments? Don't underestimate what politicians will do to stay in power. If the choice is the best interests of their country or their jobs most will choose their jobs. The rest will be dumped on the curb like JWR.
  11. Sure, all you need is new legislation, and a ton of new oversight, and being willing to fine or throw politicians in jail if they're caught. Oh, and politicians who are willing to do this, which is basically nobody. A fine, fine system we have. It probably won't get better until we hit rock bottom. We can thank the self-serving non-patriot pieces of crap in Ottawa. Oh oops, "patriotism" is a dirty word. Doing what's in the best interests of your country over your own self-interests...what a silly and offensive idea. Cancel me now please.
  12. The Titanic is sinking and every Liberal MP is wrapping their arms and legs around the railing to hold on as long as they can before they hit the water. Unfortunately I'm not too confident in the CPC even if they're an improvement. I think Canada is in trouble regardless of party, due to corruption. The country was sold down the river a long time ago.
  13. I said "food built in a lab".
  14. I think Jagmeet seems like nice guy, but policy-wise he's dumb as a post.
  15. You like your food being built in a lab. Have at it.
  16. I don't understand how they would get in the country in the first place without a valid visa, which would be offered to them by Canadian immigration. CBSA would catch this in the airport. I'm sure there are unknowing victims of fraud, but they also need to take some responsibility for that and do their due diligence. But either way, I still have no idea how they'd be allowed to enter the country without a valid visa based on their studies. Sounds like a failure of our border or immigration system. Also, how did they get a valid study or work permit in Canada? This seems like a system-wide failure on Canada's part. This government is a joke.
  17. Which would be what? Wet and sloppy??
  18. In the first instance, you plant a seed in the ground. In the second case, you bring a seed into a lab and change its DNA and then put the seed in the ground. I would prefer not to eat 6 winged chickens, or create abominations of nature. Would you eat an orange that was made purple because it looked cool?
  19. Because choosing seeds from plants you like to re-plant is a lot different than going in with a microscope and editing its DNA inside its nucleus and creating a mutant.
  20. Probably also a bit gross, but not genetically modified.
  21. Only if it comes pre-packaged in my GMO salad.
  22. Because none of your business. Because its unnatural.
  23. Today I purchased a pre-packaged salad from my local grocery stole. It contained separated/sealed ingredients like nuts, dressing to add to the salad. One of the ingredients was pre-cut apple slices. I have purchased this salad kit many times in the past and always noticed that these apple slices never turn brown when exposed to air, een though it's been sitting in the store for days (though air-sealed) I found this odd. So today I did an experiment. When eating one of these salads I saved one of the apple slices and placed it on the counter. Several hours later I came back and the apple slice still hadn't turned brown in any way whatsoever. Shocking. After some research I discovered a company in Canada has created a genetically-modified apple they call an "arctic apple" that doesn't brown or dramatically resists browning. Just so apple slices can look nice and fresh while sitting on the shelf at the grocer. Gross.
