The Unnanounced Class War
Moonlight Graham replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Read Powell's memo. A lot of ridiculous mumbo-jumbo, ie: a complete mis-characterization of Ralph Nader. On the other hand, he foretold some things the economic right would try to spearhead since the Reagan admin. I wouldn't over-emphasize his credit to the movement though. It's corporate shills and paranoid anti-commie/fascist folks who still need to be fought against, not opponents of the "American system". -
reminds me of the live extended lyrics to one of my favorite songs:

Finding evidence of a flood is one thing. There must be evidence that it covered all land and mountains in the region at the time as in the story. It must also be shown, via geologic evidence or otherwise, that every living creature on earth (minus those in the ark) were killed by a flood within an extremely short timeframe (what it is in the Bible, about 150 days?). Given that the story or the ark is estimated to have occurred around 4000 BC, the should be a ton of geologic evidence of a mass extinction at this time that killed everything not in a boat. There may have been a flood, it may have have been regionally devastating, but many parts of the story itself is bollocks, almost certainly myth.

Not an audiophile but have been researching headphones lately because my old Sony's broke. For Xmas I got a pair of $40 on-the-ear Sony headphones, but I want an upgrade to something of excellent quality without going price-crazy and that's-over-the-ear (Circumaural) and therefore more comfortable (for me). I plan to buy a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones. They're in the $130 range but superb quality for the money. CNET has tons of reviews of every seemingly headphone available.

Complex problem to solve. Just arming a guard or 2 isn't going to prevent somebody from going into a school with a concealed weapon. You would need security systems like metal detectors, locked doors or door guards or some kind of system to keep unauthorized people out of schools. But even then, a person could just come on to the schoolyard during recess and start shooting without entering the school at all. Arming people in schools doesn't solve a lot.

There's only been one avatar. I've never changed it. Never been any pic without a beard or whatever. It is a figment of your imagination. ??? Ok lol. The_Squid comes across to me as a holy squid toucan smiley fish lol. Please. I'm done with this discussion. -

Are you trying to insist I'm obsessed with gay issues, and therefore insinuating I might be gay myself? Are you trying to use this to somehow belittle me? If so that's pathetic. Not sure what you're talking about... I've had this same avatar since the new forum upgrade. I don't think I ever insisted Jesus accepts homosexuality. I said that he never mentioned anything about homosexuality, to my knowledge anyways. -

LOL why is that? I guess it all depends on your approach to translating the Bible, doesn't it? It doesn't make them a Catholic or Mormon church, but your view of Christianity isn't the only one. Christ never mentioned homosexuality or gay marriage, so how he can be against it or for it? -
"Anti-racist" is a codeword for anti-white
Moonlight Graham replied to WhiteRabbit2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They could rise in socioeconomic standard certainly, it may just take quite a long time to be equal with whitey. Even if the playing field is even, whites still start with an advantage (higher socioeconomic status). -
Yes, but there's an entire context around Adam Lanza. Why did he do it? Why was he able to do it? How could have it been prevented? Simply blaming the man (which obviously need to be done) and nothing else does nothing to prevent future disasters. Normal mentally/emotionally healthy people armed with wooden spoons don't go into schools and kill 20 kids.

That's a horrible argument, it makes no sense.

End of the world! December 21 2012

Yup a great many people are pretty stupid. I think I need to figure out a way to get rich from this fact somehow. If the masses believe some of the things they do, maybe I can convince them to buy millions of units of my new fantastic product I will invent! L. Ron Hubbard got it right with Scientology: "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion." -
"Anti-racist" is a codeword for anti-white
Moonlight Graham replied to WhiteRabbit2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well racism and sexism etc. are still significant in this country no doubt. But this isn't even the only problem. Racism/sexism and other factors that occurred in the past, even if all racism/sexism and discrimination completely vanished, still have left these groups at a socio-economic disadvantage. It's been shown in studies that people who grew up with parents and grandparents etc. who were poor with low education (no matter the race) will be more likely to be poorer and less educated than if they came from generations of more wealth and higher education. Well-educated parents tend to stress good education and performance for their children, while less-educated parents tend to do so at a lesser rate. In other words, generational habits get passed on. That's just institutionally one factor among many. Another example is that over 80% of jobs are filled through informal means and are never advertised publicly, many jobs filled by people already known to employers. Problem is I don't know how any of this could really be solved. I agree affirmative action is far from an ideal solution. -
Ya but they are a propaganda network. By very definition: http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Propaganda They claim to be a "fair and balanced" news outlet, yet they clearly aren't. They have a political ideological agenda. Similarly, i'd argue MSNBC is a propaganda outlet, left-leaning, but they seem at at least somewhat admit it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSNBC To think either of those outlet doesn't know what they're doing, who they are giving a voice to and who they aren't, is perposterous.

Update: It didn't take. -
Exactly. You can't really take this list seriously as a definitive "most fascinating people list". It has a target audience, and has a certain spin to it. This is the kind of list you might see in People Magazine. A list made for ABC likely will be different than one by CNN or PBS. The list if also dependent on who they can actually get to sit down with them in an interview. kim jong-un might not be available haha

"Anti-racist" is a codeword for anti-white
Moonlight Graham replied to WhiteRabbit2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
True enough, but it's a systemic barrier to groups that have a systemic advantage over other groups, so it's goal is to even the playing field. That's not saying it's right though, personally I see both sides of it & haven't decided. It is inherently racist, sexist etc. -
End of the world! December 21 2012
Moonlight Graham replied to TheNewTeddy's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Think of it this way. In these old civilizations, there was absolutely nothing to do at night. No electricity, no lights (other than torches or candles etc.), no TV, radio, few if any books (pre-printing press) etc. One of the few things you could do at night was go to bed or gaze at the stars. So i'm assuming people spent countless hours staring at the stars (and moon), then eventually observing patterns, using them for navigation and record keeping etc. -
