Really that many give rebates, but I would like to see the proof please, about what amount gets rebated for what? -
Clearly the Stern report has been debunked Unfortunately, this claim falls apart when one reads the 700-page tome. Despite using many good references, the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change is selective and its conclusion flawed. Its fear-mongering arguments have been sensationalised, which is ultimately only likely to make the world worse off. NO clearly it has not be debunked. In fact quite the oppoisite. The US Davis report backs it up, the UN report backs it up, Monckton has NO credentials and has bee debunked himself, as was the fellow you linked to Lomborg, the Skeptical environmentalist, was also hugely debunked in his spewings. You Gotta Loathe the Guy http://www.grist.org/advice/books/2001/12/12/short/ It is a great link above and it links to the the 100's who have debunked Lomborg.

Most people who defend the status quo in the senate claim that the unelected senate is necessary to be a house of 'sober second thought' that ensures ill-advised legislation does not get passed. This bill is clearly ill advised and should be killed by the senate. I suspect it won't. Why do you think it is ill-advised, it puts Harper and the CPC on the spot, they are pretending to go green, when they really mean no such thing. Their reaction proves they were lying to Canadians. The opposition called them on their actions, and the CPC's face was shown.

Critics attack Harper's spending 'madness'
Catchme replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The word hasn't left my mind since Emerson. So what have we learned so far? Minority Conservative Govt. is no different than a Liberal Govt. Which begs the question, which Harper is the real Harper? The one who called Canada a welfare state and seemed to idolize the right wing policies of the Republican Party of the USA, or the Liberalized, free spending, environment loving Harper that is now in office? Would the real Mr. Harper please stand up? He just did yesterday. His admission he was stacking the judiciary with neo-cons, and his statement that the CPC would NOT cap emissions, or follow the Oppositions Bill for the environment say it ALL. The real Harper and the CPC stood up, and now it is time for them to be gone from office. -

So in otherwards if the tourists dont know they are having money stolen from them for which they will see no benefit it is OK? Funny Canadians complain about paying the GST when at least we see something for it. They are not having their money stolen. If anyone is, it is the business that has to absorb the administation costs for GST collection and submission to the government. We Canadians, pay GST for Goods and Services. Why should those from out of country be exempt from paying tax on the GOODS and SERVICE they receive, while we are not? They have received the Goods and the Services, no money is being stolen from them any more than it would be for us. Personally, I would like the GST gone completely as I do believe it is theft of tax dollars, and taking further money from business for admin costs of collecting the federal tax for them. -
Questions for the 'Hurrah for Israel' crowd

Eye witnesses almost always disagree with each other. Maybe history needs to be revised from the false Zionist account too? The University of Haifa, in Israel, and a bunch of Israeli historians, after studying a huge amount of historical evidence think so. http://www.ameu.org/page.asp?iid=35&aid=427&pg=4 -

Finally, I actually agree with something the Harper government is doing, whew, never thought it would happen. Most visitors coming to Canada do not even know about the GST rebate. It is not a factor in their planned spending. They will come regardless of the rebate being there or not. Personally, I have always disagreed with the rebate, it is basically subsidizing Duty Free Stores and nothing more and costing taxpayers and other businesses to do so. The businesses that charged GST still pay it to the government, and absorb all the associated costs with doing so, and do not get paid for collecting government taxes for them. It is a net loss for the businesses. Then the Duty Free Stores giving the rebate, gain from the giving the rebate, not the primary business collecting it. The logical thing , if out of country visitors were to be exempted from GST, was NOT to charge it at the point of sale in the first place. Beyond that, why should out of country visitors be exempted from GST? Personally, I know of no other country that rebates taxes paid back to out of country visitors, though I suppose there maybe. The tourism industry is down 28% for a variety of reason, and taking away a 6% rebate is not going to affect a decrease further downwards. -
Even if they are facts, none of them have anything to do the Kyoto Accord. So why didn't the Liberals do it? Apparently they were doing it, or Canada would NOT have been going to meet 80% of its targets 2 years before the deadline. Though I would like to see a link, oh here is the link, Hiti appears to be dead on with her cited facts So, from this factual aspect, the Conservatives shutting it down for the last year + are the ones who have set us behind. Then Harper today said he refuses to go green as it will affect our economy. More lies by Harper The economy won't be effected. What he is saying is that the oil patch will be affected. It won't be. Was watching Canadian AM this morning about the oil patch being in fact the world's largest supply of accessable oil. With reserves into the trillions of barrels. The fact is they want to get that oil as cheap as possible with no concern for the environment. Can't have emission caps, would cut into the record profit margins and all that to make the oil patch environmentally friendly. Too bad. The fact is they will want that oil NO MATTER WHAT. If they have to go green they will, they just do not want to. With Harper in government they are safe, and we all now know that.

New (old) Thoughts On Iraq
Catchme replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
There are presently some very dangerous trends that have been coming out of the USA for the last 5 years or so. They are a savage nation with savage capital punishment laws. We all know the USA wants to eradicate Muslims and control the whole Middle East. It is largely uncivilized one needs only look at the murder stats in the USA for proof, and their lying acts of aggression in Irag, Afganistan and now Iran.. -
You are absolutely correct figleaf, good post!

Judges should not follow a politcal line, after law school and years of experience in the law, they are way more qualified than politicans are regarding law and law implimentation. Have police sit on a committee to select Judges is completely wrong, it is judges who judge whether the police acrtually have done a proper investigation. May I remind people of Guy Moran, Stephen Truscott, Dudley George, and many many others? Imagine if police were choosing judges???!! I cannot believe a party with NO mandate is trying to destroy our judcial system and everything else as well.

Military investigates claim Canadians abused detainees
Catchme replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Guess you're failing to take into consideration any women speaking out ih Afghanistan, would be considered radical. And I cannot believe believe anyone would go so far as to try and discredit RAWA, in order to support Canadians being in Afghanistan. How dare, a monkier here at mapleleaf forums, try to silence, and discredit, the voices of Afghan women who have been fighting and dying for their freedom since 1977? -

There has been much proof posted, here and it is available at the RAWA showing that the elections were a travesty. Too much to be discounted as a matter of fact. Frankly, I am not the one railing here. -

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL The only murdering butchers are those who are launching invasions of countries for greed and power based upon their lies and quite obvious continuing lies, and those that support the lies and heinous autrocities that are occuring based upon lies. -

In other words it is not just a life policy. Thats fine , and as you see there is no exclusion for suicide like I have stated before , after the mandatory period. As for your med records showing you to be suicidal , the Ins Co cannot use that as a defense to deny AFTER the mandatory wait period. Once your wait period is done, you cannot be denied with the exception of fraud ie getting non-smokers rates when you smoked all the time.(besides....if going for a high dollar amount policy , tobacco shows up in urine and blood analysis) This has been a very interesting discussion, I am much more familiar with my policy because of it. And they seriously cannot use that as a defense? So then one who wants their familiy to benefit from their suicide only has to wait until set periods are over, and their familiy gets the policy?

Yes colonialistic, going into another nation and telling them how YOU want them to be, as opposed to how they want to be, is colonialistic. Excuse me, but I prefer to hear/read the actual peoples whose country is being occupied over an entity with a moniker saying some things about how we should stay in Afghanistan. Everything else within your post is a nonsensical personal attack that has no bearing on the topic. -
Our Incompetent Federal Bureaucracy
Catchme replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm merely pointing out that in this area, those who say the bureacracy is bloated with lazy union members who are responsible for screwing everything up are dead wrong. The disorganization in the federal public service is due to self-serving, lifer executives, and craven politicians who really only care about short-term political interests - as opposed to the general welfare of the nation - or their ministries. In many cases it's clear what needs to be done, but for political reasons, it's not being done. Too much heat and too much bad publicity - not to mention too little payoff in the end for the politician who fights the good fight. Excellent post! Saturn was also correct about the silly Albertan voters who refused to send in their census. All funding from the feds to provinces is based upon the census. Those who do not fill them out are depriving their provinces and themselves of proper funding. They are only penalizing themselves. Ridiculous really. -

well, Bush says does? Just like he said so about Iraq, and lied then too. He and those backing him are an example of sociopathic insanity at its finest, wanting to destroy a innocent country and peoples for greed and power. sham shame shame and we canadians wille shamed too if they go forward and act upon their lies. -

There was one poll white doors, that is hardly representative of the facts on the ground, outside of Kandahar. There are many more Afghan voices and occurances that prove the 1 poll presented is in fact scurious. To try and expropriate the voice of Afghan women, to support a colonialistic ideology, was a incorrect thing to do, and I see you have ignored their voice and other Afghan voices yet again, that are stating the USA and partners should leave .
