  1. Then that would no, figleaf.
  2. Just heard on the news there was another check point shooting, involving a Canadian. So, this is the secong now in a week? It is such nonsense thinking that Canadians should just roll back and say nothing if our military is not conducting themselves according to Canadian standards, and the Geneva Convention, and if the military personal are thinking such things they need to think again. Perhaps it is more than high time to pull them out?
  3. They had death threats levelled at them. And point taken, willl refine it to some on the right of centre.
  4. Wow, didn't we just give a NO BID contract to Lockheed Martin? Then there is Pengrowth Corp, worth a google in its own right. As Pengrowth Energy Trust is one of the largest energy royalty trusts in the world. Ron Covais deep Intergration winner of a NO BID CONTRACT Council of Canadians has expressed concern that : "Most of the 300 policy recommendations within the accord may not require legislative changes." Apparently, some missed the first page, as they continue to use, disparging personal commentary, in place of actual debate or rebuttal. Please do rebutt the points presented.
  5. I am one of the first of the boomers and both my parents are pushing 90. It could be over forty years before the boomers are gone. I don't think we can count on that. Me either, hence my winkie.
  6. http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/arch...2/11/2003348506 Again, Canadians need to start pressuring the Harper government to speak out against any action against Iran. Start pressuring your MP's and other political party leaders, because if Israel does nuke Iran, innocent Iranian blood will be on our hands. After it is all over it will be way too late and how will any of us be able to sleep at night? Millions of innocents burnt to crisp instantly, those that survive will wish they hadn't, and the world will weap burning tears of sorrow and remorse for not doing something sooner. For not speaking out sooner. First they came for....
  7. They also had "evidence" Iraq had WMD too, didn't they? Anyway, the Iran is supplying IEDs is fishy for several reasons: -the I in IED stands for "improvised". Which means they are fauirly unsophisticated and easy to make. -There's no mention of who is using these weapons. Since the bulk of the anti-u.s. insurgencyt is Sunni, that would rule out Iran: why would Iran provide weapons to the Sunnis? -even if the equipment was made in Iran, that's not evidence of state complicity. The Iran-Iraq border is long and porous. Smuggling weaponry across would be pretty easy to do. Great points, and now the Sunnis are talking bargaining and the USA is ignoring them, wonder why that is? There is also a link in this thread or another ME thread that states emphatically that the vast amounts of insurregents/freedom fighters are Sunnis, who would have nothing to do with Iran shia' Muslims in the first place. They would also have the IED technology as it was they who fought against Iran.
  8. Music and politics have gone hand in hand for over 100 years. Musicians like Bruce Cockburn are totally political with their music. He in one of his most famous songs threatened death on politicions You can go back 45 year when Bob Dylan talking about politicions making war came right out and said he hopes they die. I mean someone like bush should be seen on the internet standing at the top of some stairs like Saddam was,but at least Natalie Maines didnt come right out and say say bush should die *snerk* What is it with today's right wing that they cannot tolerate criticism? And you give perfect examples of this. People should really look at far their freedom of speech has been down graded, if they had made a song about killing politicians, Bush would've had them arrested and sent to jail.
  9. Apparently not all of the jewish community is on board with Harper! Apparently the jewish community according to the Star reporter tend to vote LEFT. And your point would be what?
  10. Oh you think it has majically stopped? No the other articles show it hasn't, perhaps you should have looked them over. Because they also, show that the AFGHAN government, aka American-Canadian-Dutch trained Afghani military police forces, are still torturing. No, we should not just put up or shut up, why should we abdicate our responsibility as citizens? Especially not if our on military is abusing detainees, detainees = Afghanis citizens, who are later released. Canadians have laws against torture, and we take in refugees that are subject to torture in their home countries. Why would we be turning people over to get tortured? We shouldn't. Now how would you feel if it was your husband or son was being tortured? There is a reason why it is against the Geneva Convention. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/178566
  11. The federal bureaucracy is the College of Physicians and Surgeons, they set the standards that the government uses and enforces. With nurses it is a different reason. Having said that, I totally agree with you. More emphasis needs to be placed on getting them into the system as quickly as possible, and this was mentioned in the Harper meeting regarding health care. The CPC then walked away from the first meeting, and have nothing since. Much the same as the Liberals did. BC's health care costs are artificially inflated to other provincial norms. This is because of the large segment of seniors who move to BC from other provinces to live when retired. BC is actually incurring the costs for seniors health who have lived their lives and paid taxes in other provinces. A few years back, there was some discussion about BC lobbying the federal government for a certain % of other provinces health care transfer payments for those citizens from other provinces that had emmigration to BC. The figures that were to be used were based upon census data. Can't rember now, how much they had figured yearly the additional seniors were costing the BC Medical system. Of course then, the argument was made that BC now enjoyed the pensions and money those seniors would spend, so why should the other provinces pay. So, then, they were trying to figure out what the new citizens of BC were spending, as apposed to health care costs incurred for them being here. Health boards were saying, incoming seniors were not only incurring health care costs more than they paid, but they were prompting wait lists for long term BC residents. And then the Continuing Care got in on it, stating they wanted Long Term care monies from other provinces, as the seniors from other provinces were making it impossible for BC seniors who had lived here their whole lives to get beds and BC tax payers were incurring the costs of these out of province seniors. Finally, I think the whole thing became to huge of a project with to much dissention and it was dropped. Actually, long term projections show decrease in Health care spending, of course this is after the boomers have gone. There are complex issues at play, that would not be fixed by privatization. In fact, it would most likely be the opposite as the same problems would still remain. As I mentioned before, nurse practitioners would be a huge plus to the system. It would decrease monies paid to Drs, and free money up for hospital expansions. Of course, the Drs are lobbying against this, who knows why though, as their patient lists are full and many are not accepting new ones. There is also the need for greater focus on preventative health care, and actually I applaud the very recent changes made to the Canada Food Guide, it was a step in the correct direction. As well as the ban on transfats. The Heart and Stroke foundation's enhanced preventative programs and advocacy will also be of huge benefit to the health care system. However, there are not going to be any quick solutions, unless the federal government steps in and insists that Canadian Physicians and Surgeons change their out dated policies. And/or provides funding for out of country health care personal fast tracking.
  12. So what you are saying is the Bushes, Cheney, and Rumsfeld et al have been manufacturing wars for decades to get rich. And you see nothing wrong with this?
  13. Canadians are not 'absorbing the US monetary debts' We are not giving away our resources, we are selling them for profit Trade with the U.S. is most beneficial to our economy, no trade would tank the economy As for the ' subterfuge to try and pull off deep integration- what is heinous are spurious comments/opinions such as that. It seems as though you have not followed along scribblet, so here is a re-iteration of the conversation posts to this point. A secret deep integration meeting was held in Banff Last fall with Cheney Israel, Hillier, Lockhead Martin, and Stockwell day amongst others. There they planned to steathfully go behind canadians back a go forward with deep integration with the end result being a full North American Union. They want this accomplished before Harper and Bush leave their positions, as they know it will not happen otherwise. The proof of this is in the links in this thread and the quotes from the links. It came out as a result of the USA Freedom of Information Act. There is no doubt, there are government records showing this. If there was a North American Union to happen, which Harper et al are trying to accomplish, Canadians would be burdened with the USA's national debt, and we would be giving the USA, Canada. There would be NO trade it would all just be NA.
  14. Umm...no it is not. Commit suicide, get paid. Go to war and die, no getting paid No insurance does not pay out for suicides.
  15. In the face of much evidence to the contrary, it seems some will deny USA/Israel intentions towards Iran. Howevr, no matter how much some deny it and try to discredit others, who are exposing it, a plan to do so is indeed in the works. http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/16609594.htm http://baltimorechronicle.com/2007/011607CARMICHAEL.shtml http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?con...&articleId=2807
  16. You're telling me that I made up this story that Canadians forces are being accused of abusing detainees? Or other things when the world is but a google away? Unbelievable. Perhaps you should do some research for yourself before you start casting aspersions upon others? http://www.hrw.org/english/docs/2004/05/13/afghan8577.htm And I give credit to ar least some of canada's military for thinking rationally about MORAL dilemmas, maybe more should follow suit. Afghan Military tortures prisoners So, again I ask, should the Canadian Military be handing over prisoners to the Afghan army?
  17. So, a country and it's peoples should be nuked for oil and shoring up the US dollar? http://usa.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/17450 Some people really need to think about what they are advocating and why.
  18. Apparently, the Canadian Jewish community is on board with Harper's theo-con support for Israel. http://www.thestar.com/article/179346
  19. Here is another com[pany that has ties to George Bush, who are making money off of Iraq, Raytheon. http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/news/200...ytheon-iraq.htm Things like this cannot be brushed aside as oh well, it is not about profits etc, Apparently it is ALL about profts for the Bush's and Cheny et als. Exposing how they are making trillions of a lie they created is very important. IT IS ALL about the money and nothing else.
  20. How about you point out any lies, or untruths in my words? Instead of making personal smears, based upon your personal opinions, that have no substance, you should be debating the points and providing evidence to the contrary. That you do not, or actually cannot says much. Of course, I am proud to be a Canadian unlike those who want to become part of the USA, or who would subvert Canadian by stealth.
  21. Yup, all those things but it's also about keeping doctors. Training them for countries which put fewer obstacles in their way is not a solution. Our family doctor had a rant in the local paper yesterday. Even he says funding is not the problem, its the screwed up bureaucratic system that runs the system. Among other things the authority is too fragmented resulting in too little accountability and a whole bunch of frustration for those who work in it. There was a feature on the news the other day. One of the two OBGYN's in Campbell River immigrated from SA a few years back. For personal reasons they had to return to SA for an extended period then they returned to Canada and reapplied. While he went right back into practice the Federal bureaucrats have told them they have to start all over and in the meantime the rest of his family can't work in Canada. Australia has made him an offer with no strings attached and while he doesn't want to go, thinks he might accept for his family's sake. The town is now up in arms because there is a good chance they are going to lose 50% of their obstetricians because of bureaucratic bone heads. This is very much a sellers market when it comes to labour and we have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot at every level. Yes I concur, the bureaucratic system that is the Council of Physicians and Surgeons is blocking many outside of the country Drs. and indeed denying other persons the right to become a Dr. It is a very closed organization. And anyone wanting to be a Dr must submitt application to them. And it is interesting that you mention Campbell River, my friend has been waiting for months now for surgery in CR, and cannot get it becaue of the situation you mention. She nows has to find a OBGYN in Nanaimo and go on their wait list. Truly the Council of Physicians and Surgeons, should be stripped of its right to approve those applying. It should be open access as is the case with every other field of endeavour. But then there is also training spaces that are needed. UNBC now has a new Drs program, and they are wiping clear student debts, if the Drs or nurses in training sign a contract saying they will remain in the north for 4 or 6 years, forget which. This initiative is an attempt to stem drain from the north to the south portions of the province. There are many health boards that are getting innovative with their recruitments, some were found here in the north through advertising in Ski and Snowboarding magazines. Targeting those in the medical profession who are all about winter sports worked.
  22. I would not hold the insurance company responsible either because it is usually spelled out quite clearly in the policy. It is in mine. In fact, it is the first thing that stuck out like a sore thumb. All parties (policy holders and insurance companies) seem ridiculous over the issue. How can a person who works for the military not notice the "act of war" clause? I find that a little irresponsible. A person goes to a foreign country to face deadly force and claims not to know their life insurance. I would expect making provisions for your possible death to be high on the list of responsibilities for a soldier. That is just me. How can an insurance company maintain this "act of war" clause but make exceptions "as a gesture of support for our military" after the fact and insist that they are not going to change their policy? Making things even more exciting is that now the policies include "act of terrorism" clauses too. Oh, before any of the socialists try to throw their anti-free-market rants at me: 1) I am not saying I disagree with the insurance companies' right to offer limited choice 2) we do not have a free market See the first thing I wrote in this post. I just pulled out one of my life insurance policies and the first exceptions on the list are: "- Insurrection, war or armed conflict or armed aggression or an act or hazard of war or armed conflict or armed agression; or - Service in the naval, military or air force of any country, combination of countries or international organization at war, whether war be declared or not; or " This is my anecdote and I would have no excuses. I absolutely agree with everything you put forth here. And what happened to the 750k some were talking about that the Canadian war widows received? When I investigated it, I found they get 250k, plus widows pensions and orphans pensions. Going to war and expecting insurance coverage is like expecting insurance coverage if you commit suicide.
  23. The Dixie Chicks won 5 grammy's, and they were widely and resoundingly cheered. This is a huge statement on the part of the majority Americans. Thankfully sanity is reigning down there.
  24. John Ibbitson is quite correctly raising alarm bells about Harpers, move to theo-con judiciary. Setting the stage for a judicial battleground Harper's theo-con mindset is about to destroy the Canadian judical system, please write your MP today And excellent article and more here below: Harper over steps his mandate, and is doing grievous harm to Canada.
