The Green Party Stunk in the By-Elections which is one of the few times a smaller party like the GPC or NDP or fringe parties gets to show their strength. I would be hard pressed to consider that the Green Party has any movement other then downward. The reason for this? Ekos prompts party names. When a person is apathetic about politics, and gets a phone poll, the easy route is to say Green. It doesn't have any traction. Heading into the By Elections in BC, the Green Party were polling at 16% and came out with 4.3%. In Quebec, Shortly before the by elections the Green Party were touting polling numbers higher then the NDP at 13%. The NDP is a party that used to Poll Lower then the Hooch party in Quebec. Results CPC take seat, Green Party vote 1.7% In Hochelaga the BQ retains seat The Green Party fell to 3.3% However, the NDP moves up to 19%, yet the party polls in the cellar. In CCMV the Green party came in at another 3.3% of the vote. The CPC recover the seat. The NDP move into 2nd in a rural riding moving up to 25%. I don't hold by elections as a magic mirror to the future. But these Results for the Green Party were pretty much standard fare across the Country with results in the 1.7% low to 4.3% high. I view the Ekos poll as maintaining status quo, even for the Green Party.

Don Martin: Mike Duffy jumps the shark

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/prince-edward-island/story/2009/11/11/pei-senator-duffy-expenses-584.html" Mike Duffy is PEIs most Expensive Senator Mike Duffy has painted himself into a corner. -
Other employees who receive boner medication work in places like this. TD CENTRE Bank Of Montreal Insurance companies Investment firms Senators {the appointed ones like Mike Duffy and the ones who play hockey) Those 27 Harper Senators have a really good union.
-
Toyota, Honda, and Suzuki employees all have a prescription benefit plan. Viagara is amongst the approved drugs. Straight like arrow. White Collar employees in all automotive companies are entitled to drug benefits and health benefits. Automotive practices across Ontario are similar in nature and process.

And the other 80% of non union operations leaving the country??? What is your solution to the 9 of 12 non union Industries that left my city since March of this year? Wages weren't a factor? Lean Production wasn't a factor? Tax Cuts weren't a factor? I've seen it all. Canada continues to lose. On a final note on unions. I recall after working 15 years in various white collar managerial and blue collar circles landing in my first Union Shop. I held all the stereotypes. On November 11th at 11am everything went silent. Then the noise fired up at levels equal to artillery shells launched from a howitzer. Back to work as normal. Never before had I seen a workplace pause to remember those who fought for us.

And the Majority of MLW poll punters called these two correct. Our Straw Polls have been very good on calling By Elections and General elections results.
-
While pretty much everyone got Hochelaga correct, 5 people get to pat themselves on the back for their CPC prediction over the BQ. Good Punting.
-
Tie breaker needed for the CPC/BQ split.
-
Earlier I needed a tie breaker between the LPC and NDP. I need someone to break the tie between the CPC and LPC.

Like everything else in a Laissez faire society. Food processing affects locally grown food supplies and local markets are eradicated. However, to follow through a bit on Wild Bills perspective.... If I did understand him correctly, this article should support his position.
-
LAST BUMP. Get in your say before the end of the day. And how about a tie breaker....to boot.

Now Wild Bill has me worried. Today I may go down in flames. While I think the riding is one for the CPC to lose, if Wild Bill makes comments like this, I wonder what its like on the East Coast. There is a definite irony in that a PC took a Reform type position in representing his Constituents. He was also rewarded by his Constituency for doing so. The CPC has the right to punish a member, and the member has a right to speak his mind when necessary. People don't want a perpetual puppeteer in office. Personally, I can't see the logic in going NDP unless this has become one of those Cadman type ridings. If so, the NDP will hold it for a term (if they get it) and it could swing back CPC if the CPC makes amends. I don't see the riding as having a strong enough base for the NDP to take it. I am personally moving this to a photo finish, with the CPC by a nose. HOwever, as I see here, MLW pundits may prove me wrong. LOL... just looked at the newest vote.... What if the LPC swings up the middle

All good points Wild Bill. A sound argument. As a long time proponent of Abolition the Senate. I would be willing to have a referendum. Anything to avoid the current line of fools and patronage appointments currently floating around. However, I would like to have Abolishment of the Senate as one choice in a referendum vs Status Quo and Triple E. I would think, with the number of Reformers still existing in the CPC and the NDP supporting Abolition, that a Bill could come forth presenting a referendum option. Also, since the merger a some Reform voters who feel the CPC has lost its populist appeal have swung into the NDP fold. My guess they would be happy with either outcome vs status quo. Maybe a Bill on MP and Senate Pensions too.... Is the country ready for another round of populism? I think we are a decade away. Get ready for more Senate festivities. -
Automakers are one lobby group. Automakers adapt to market conditions. That is a fact. All companies use the political system in all countries around the globe to create artificial markets and market conditions. It was the artificial housing market that caused the automotive meltdown in the United States. When the government deregulated the housing industry and banks got greedy and fraudulent, people lost their homes. People losing their homes don't buy new vehicles. The first cuts come to the highest priced vehicles and to the Automotive companies with the highest sales in the US. That is why GM and TOYOTA took some of the heaviest hits, with GM caught in mid transistion to their offshore and Mexican operations. That is why they needed the cash flow. To continue the transition to lower labour costs and environmental regulation and enforcement. I believe that Sir John A MacDonald was correct in creating tarrifs to attract industry to Canada. Don't worry, there isn't a trade deal out there that a Conservative or Liberal doesn't love, so your opinion will hold sway. However, your understanding of the Global nature of industry is incorrect. Simply from an Automotive standpoint. Ford, GM and Chrysler are all Foreign. Toyota, Honda, and Suzuki/Cami are Foreign. In Canada, Ford, GM and Chrysler are reducing operations with long term goals to cease all production in Canada. Toyota, Honda and Suzuki/Cami will not be far behind. You have a way to pay a Canadian Engineer $600 to $1,000 per month in an industrial capacity (Full time) or an Electrician, Millwright, Mechanic, Tool Maker, CNC Operator etc. $300 to $700 per month. What I see today, are design firms who once had hundreds of technicians and engineers on staff, suppling technical aid for numerous industries, wiped out with 1 or 2 of these people creating a small company as the liason and all processing and first offs are done in Asia. I've thought about farming out our Senate. We could get the building and Senators for dirt cheap. Electronically send everything back to us. If its good enough for our banking system, its good enough for the Senate. It would save us a fortune.

Yes you did, but only nerds get it. Seriously, thanks for the substance too. Back to the Origins of the thread. If the CPC lose the by election it might have something to do with the impression Duffy left behind with that confrontation with Stoffer. http://thechronicleherald.ca/ Check out the picture. OUCH!!! -
Running ads is Smart. That may tip the balance. Here is a CTV prediction. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20091107/byelections_test_091108/20091108?hub=

Craig Olivers going to be wrong too....

Sunday bump. The questions are "Who will WIN, not Who would you like to win" Punters are saying the NDP will get BC. It is a 3 way race in Nova Scotia, erm, I just think the Punters here are going to be wrong on the outcome if things stay the same in this straw poll.
-
Sunday Bump. One more to go... Final votes in by tommorrow. MLW punters so far predict ahorse race between the BQ and the CPC in the one riding and a runaway BQ victory in the other.

Are you constitutionally obligated to fill the Senate? Harpers reasons were based upon, if he didn't fill them and the CPC lost power, the Liberals would fill the Senate, and the CPC wanted to get into striking distance for control. 1) The NDP could choose not to appoint to the Senate and let it die. Who'd know? Who'd miss it? 2) They could increase the number of Senators to appease the LPC and CPC patronage system. Increase it to 1 million would be perfect. Then the NDP could appoint monkeys to type up new legislation. Worst case scenario, we get a copy of Shakespear in English and French (See punk post for book references, wiki link below for million monkey theory.) I also think 1 million monkeys would work cheaper then our current # of Senators. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem -
