  1. The irony of ironies being that you support the Green Shift in your Province. White Doors Said I think this is a good thing. http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/front/article/316148 You appear to argue both for and against a Carbon Tax at the same time. Good for New Brunswick, Bad for Canada. Infact you argue that it is good to INCREASE the PST 2% and have a Carbon Tax. The position you advocate is more taxing then the Campbell Government. More taxing then the Green Shift. More importantly, you like to engage in cheap shots like this. No, you aren't going to get banned.
  2. I have been called "right wing" and "leftist" by those who disagree with my thoughts, positions or comments on these forums. Obviously, the Right only see the labelling done by those on the left and the Left only see the labelling of those on the right. Wilbers is right, you catch on quick. Keep the discussion moving forward. My favourite quote is a bi line used on this forum by one regular poster who keeps moving the discussion forward, amidst the flames, whether you agree with him or not. Courtesy of Riverwind.... "To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.". Of course, I am typing this from my Helicopter.
  3. Now this Woman is PISSED !!! http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...reen-shift.aspx Jennifer Wright: Mr. Dion, give me back my Green Shift Posted: August 05, 2008, 10:00 AM by Kelly McParland Full Comment Put yourself in my sandals for a moment. Having put the past 10 years of my life into growing a successful mission-based environmental company called Green Shift, I was furious when an official from Liberal leader Stephane Dion's office called me one evening a month ago to tell me that the following morning, the Liberal Party of Canada would release its proposed new environmental tax program under my trademark. She said we would benefit from the confusion they were about to foment.
  4. I agree. Turning away a single ship can be tragic. But it is not the Canadian Government imposing the attrocity upon return. I am no historian on this, but wouldn't it be reasonable for the Indian Government to be the one compensating those people whose ancestors were condemned to death or imprisonment? Unlike the above It was our government who imposed the Head tax and the residential schools. Unlike some others here, I believe our government must be responsible for its actions of the past and for our present actions in the future, should they be unjust. It reads to me, like an apology was given, and those who received it, (as printed in the papers), have dismissed it. As a country, we must always think about what could happen if a person or group is returned to their native country, and not repeat those mistakes. Obviously anyone reading our history will know that we made similar errors decades later with even greater horrors to those turned back http://www.vaniercollege.qc.ca/EVENTS/HOLO...4/st_louis.html "NONE IS TOO MANY" Canada was the last country to reject the plea of the St. Louis ship, before it was sent back to Germany with all its desperate passengers.
  5. You know I was trolling It looks like this is more about soft tissue damage and Legislation then about an increase in vehicular damage/claims. However, leave to the insurance industry to start their lobbying at 37% increases. I am interested in comparing their new rates to rates here in Ontario including our "September Gift" from the Industry, that I hear (from a very good source on a public forum ) are on their way. What made their rates go down from 2004?
  6. Afghanistan was democratic prior to the USSR invasion and held a semblance of Democracy during the occupation. Obviously the factions involved in the Democracy were communists and islamists.

  8. Yes, my response was for NOAHBODY. Your comments stand on their own. Well see how the Libertarian views it.
  9. I have seen multiples. I guy who already lost both his hands was having his left foot cut off for taking a comb, if you can imagine that. What a bunch of bullshit. Mandatory or not, putting people in Jail hasn't created the utopia you wish to pretend will be created. The US has had mandatory sentencing for over a decade and gang membership has been increasing not decreasing according to their own documents. Meanwhile the jails are stacked with more people then any other country in the world IIRC. Parents should be involved with their kids. Its called being a PARENT. What incentive is there for the parent when a teenager is sentenced to a mandatory jail term and comes out with a whole toolbox of criminal knowledge. By then its too late. Parents need to be involved early well before kids are 6 years old. By the time, you envision them locked up, it is an uphill battle and a jailterm could well be the final nail in the coffin for a repeat offender. Then you got a long term case in the prison system. Each case, needs to be looked at on an individual basis, as promoted by the crown, defense and the judge/judge and jury before sentencing of any kind.
  10. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Ok, I have stopped laughing now. I can't believe people still trot out such nonsense. Countries have the death penalty and their are still murders. Countries cut off the hands of theives and there is still theft. (Conrad Black should be happy he is a convicted fellon in the US). And countries have mandatory sentencing and still have gangs.
  11. Guelph looked to be a riding where the CPC could make inroads. In a By-Election, local issues matter and the Candidates even more. So here is what just came in, and it isn't good for the CPC candidate. Good thing people are leaving for the long weekend. You don't want miss an opportunity to like this to look strong, and it appears she fumbled badly. http://news.guelphmercury.com/News/article/362654 Meanwhile, it looks like the Liberal Stronghold of Westmount is off to a rocky start with regards to getting their campaign up and running. Astronaut Marc Garneau apparently has no literature and when some Liberal Volunteers who were in Guelph raised the issue on a blog, it was sensored and changed. But once again, it looks like Liberal Arrogance or Incompetence is in charge in Quebec. Haven't figured that out yet? St. Lambert, haven't heard much yet. Still a long way to go.
  12. I think the CPC have wanted one but don't want to put the apple cart before the horse, because of their 2009 legislation for an election. However, they have been content with their LPC lapdogs who have aided them in making history as one of the longest serving minority parliments. I think the LPC have done everything possible not to bring down the government. I think the NDP have been ready for an election since 2006, about 15 minutes after Emerson crossed the floor and Fortier got his patronage appointment. Infact the NDP have stated they have done everything possible to bring down the government but have been unsuccessful (See LPC above). The recent discovery of courage by the LPC is simply to acknowledge that they cannot continue on the path of invisibility in the house in the year leading up to a fixed 2009 election date. The challenge put forth, is tailored made to help promote their tax legislation and send a message that they are ready to circle the wagons. The CPC have once again, used this as an opportunity to go on the attack. They have failed miserably in Diane Finleys riding, on Indian Land Claims and Tobacco. However, nothing like election fever, and the fear that Dougs wife is going to be out of a job, to provide a wake up call to the previously thought safe seat. Tobacco buyout on its way. Native Land claims to follow. Just might help them pickup a nearby seat too. And I bet the LPC won't be happy campers with a fall election if the Bi Elections have them losing a seat to the CPC. But the LPC are boxed in. They have to challenge the government this fall, it is now or never. And they have one hope to look strong. And that hope is the BQ. Their Sovereignist rival, who may be in worse shape then the LPC, and just may prop up the CPC until fall 2009. Be Hungry all you want. I see this parliment going the distance, it is a marathon minority. Pretty Cool actually. Well I just saw this in the National Post. Ouch
  13. Couldn't do that now. To much money invested in masking tape. Works great on the frames.
  14. I don't think anyone wants an election. The Bi Elections are on, and no one seems to be in election mood.
  15. Got my vote. Long time coming.
  16. From my experience. The people in this thread are the moderates. I haven't felt pushed around by any of them. Well except by that fascist M. Dancer who can't skate and therefore isn't a Canadian. I bet he doesn't drink beer either. I don't know where all the "Right Wing" bullies are hiding. Infact many vocal CPC supporters must be taking a holiday, because their absense is very much noticed in virtually every thread. Which makes things dull around here. One thing that I notice on the forum compared to a Social Setting. Every now and again, a far left or far right wing activist will come on the forum with their extreme viewpoint and argue with the left and the right on these forums, in a one man/woman conflict against everyone. The thread goes on for awhile until, virtually everyone has had it with the said individual, and the personal attacks start. Soon after the "RW/LW loner" abandons his/her cause and disappears never to be seen or heard from again. In social settings I have seen politics and religious discussions result in violence. Then I pick myself up off the ground, look for my glasses, get some ice cubes out of the punch bowl and suck on them until the next punch comes from the left, erm, right, erm straight on the button, off the solar plexis and into the bread basket. Then I change the topic to hockey, and the superior skills of the European players. Then I pick myself up off the ground, look for my glasses, get some ice cubes out of the punch and suck on them until the next punch comes from the left, erm, right, straight on the button, off the solar plexis, into the bread basket. Then I get a Blue, no wait, a Canadian..... no Sleemans Clear. BTW this is the 2nd time this month I have been labelled a "right winger". Take note.
  17. Don't want or like fixed 4 year terms. Regardless we have it in Ontario.
  18. Shut Up Wanker Ok, bullying is not something that is left wing, right wing, or party specific. There are definitely leftwing bullies out there. You might view them as fascists but Stalin is a better model. Get into any group and occassionally someone will want to dominate the activity or discussion and push people into their thinking. To think that the left is immune from having bullies is like saying the right doesn't have bullies who attack the left. A bully is a bully. Now P*$$ off. Luckily Maple Leaf is a pretty open playground.
  19. For Convienence I am going by party names vs Candidate Names.

  21. I says there is already a poll similar to this one. However, I think I may start one on the By Elections.
  22. You'd be worth every penny too. PS Kraft Dinner for lunch. YUMMY!!!
  23. Alberta was 4% above Ontario in those who performed a "longer Work Year" Alberta was 5.9% lower then Ontario in a "Standard Work Year" Alberta was 2.1 % higher then Ontario in the "Shorter Work Year" Which for 2004 is pretty much a wash. I expect those who could put in the extra hours did. Those who wanted to work less hours did. That is a good set of options for a labour market. There isn't alot of difference. I also have many that I have helped with placement in Sask, and Alberta. They are enjoying their new positions, higher pay, often similar or easier work, and more hours and benefits. The Employers appear to be well mannered and fair. Ontario is just starting to take advantage of the 60 hour work week and averaging. This provides little incentive to work longer hours, but does give the company the break on Overtime pay after 48 hours. That said, the rapid increase in part time work created out of full time positions will likely lower the hours even more, even though people are holding two and three job positions. It is not always possible to sustain the extra hours with such diversity, as opposed to working more hours in the same location/position/field. I would be interested in seeing the 2008 study on hours of work. 2004 in Ontario was the last of the boom years. I am impressed with the sample size used in the previous study.
  24. Steven Harper in Government is nothing like Preston Manning in Opposition. Harper doubled spending in public works. The place where adscam started. He appointed his bagman, Fortier to operate without accountability. It is troubling that this is the same department which was used as a slush fund for Liberal Operatives, is being used for CPC propoganda, and excess spending. A Party Bagman doubling the budget to promote his party. Now there's a surprise. As someone said once..... "I can't believe I believed a politician." The deficit shouldn't continue into the fall and winter...... Lets hope that is the case.
