Only the Liberal Oriented CBC has portrayed the comments with that headline. But the comments are the same in the context of the article. From the article Layton calling Harper misguided is nothing new and has repeated that frase since early 2006. Who doesn't think Harpers up to something? And both Harper and Dion are firing blanks. So it appears that both Harper and Dion are saying they want an election and neither accepted that they were ready to trigger a vote. Seems all three sound the same, just the headlines are different to sell papers or form opinions.

How Immigration Policy has Created a "Cultureless" Canada
madmax replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have seen many Italians Work hard. I also have met many that have been here for decades and haven't learned English. Which is what some of this thread alludes to. They still worked hard, if that is all that is required to be a "Canadian". And IIRC Italians were not welcome into this country by the vast majority of "native" born Canadians. Lots of derogatory terms come to mind. I see nothing has changed with peoples opinions. I must say, that I was taken aback seeing women in Burkas in Niagara Falls. -
The thread isn't the same without you. Look forward to your posts in the future. You ain't that old yet.

Bush Sr, possibly the wisest the decision, able to create a large contingent in the New World Order. Clinton, low risk, bomb for political points, win elections look tough, keep Iraqis in poverty and the public looking at whats going on in his head not his trousers. Morally bankrupt air assaults, popular at home. Policy loses effectiveness as Iraq wishes to become accepted in the Global community again. Bush JR. Wreckless. W not up to the job. Bush SRs boy retires to the exclusive restaurant where he dons a smoking jacket and a bib, and maintains he is the war president.

DItto. Good points and opinion. Considering 3 Recent Prime Ministers have all said Yes to Afghanistan, and 2 for missions extensions and the Current Prime Minister and Official Leader of the Opposition support the mission and its extension. It is the LPC and CPC ducking and weaving regarding the Iraq decision whether against it "Chretian because we don't have capacity" or Harper "for it but can't because we don't have capacity" the results are the same. I am disappointed with the results in Afghanistan and I am not crowing about saying no to Iraq. I am dissappointed with the complete breakdown and failure of the occupation. The Bush doctrine is twice proven to be a failure.

No, he wouldn't. Nor would any other Prime Minister.

Sure. Feel free to explain?

With Dion? He didn't care that they took the name "Green Shift" knowing full well the company that built this name, didn't want them to use it. That's caring. Dion is a traditional LPC opportunist. He plays the meek one, but he does the same game as every other LPC leader and quite frankly, its still the same cronies in the LPC. A mean and nasty bunch, who if you look at many of their webpages are ignorant, rude, and use bully tactics. Harper comes across as a bullie, and he is stubborn to the point of no return. I don't see any degree of honesty and accountability from his "New" government. I see tricks and sneaky strategies. But for undermining Leaders like Dion. hmmm Turner, Clark, Chretian, Campbell, Day, Manning, & Harper were all portrayed as Doofusses or the next Hitler. Politics is a blood sport for many of the activists and spin doctors. There is no reason with them. They find a strategy that works, no matter how despicable and they run with. Dion doesn't have to worry about the CPC attacks. That is normal for any new Opposition Leader. For Dion his last words will be ET tu Brute (erm BoB)

The Green Shift is an Eco Capitalist Plan. But this is Dions Greatest Strength and it doesn't sound like you will join him.

I am an economist too. All economist can be treated with respect and the latter part is interpretable. The Carbon Tax under the LPC GREEN SHIFT does not, and without taxing GAS, is very unlikely to reduce Carbon and would be lucky under the best circumstance to lower it significantly. But it will generate revenue, and it will make the lifestyles of people on modest incomes, that much more difficult. You may go without a luxury or need not based on Carbon. Like a new bicycle or running shoes. Seems that the LPC has picked up the easy sell, telling us gravy part of the program and in doing so is over playing the environmental results and underplaying the revenue generating excercise. It is another tax grab. There are economic forums to have these discussions, with nicey charts, and curvs and economic lingo, but that is for economist banter. This is political banter, and the force behind the Green SHift are Liberals. A party that has no respect for the holder of the name "GREENSHIFT".

Harper.... "We should be there with our allies" He is a cowardpolitician. Don't trust them. I am having to work on this, two politicians with similar goals, both cower for the same reasons. It wasn't a cakewalk. I have to say, that Harper did come to the conclusion first, even though he is pandering and it did get him out of defending a US military disaster.

Its right here  http://www.hrw.org/english/docs/2008/08/13/russia19620.htm None of which will absolve the Bush Administration from its actions and its incompetence, along with its support for torture.

4 years later August 5th, 2007 HEADLINE NEWS!!! IRAQ IS GOING DOWN THE TOILET!!! he cops out at the end. His real message is. TRUST ME

I get it. Thanks. Using a fuel that emits less, provides better gas milelage is not an emmissions reducing activity. Improving Public Transit and letting cities expand their capacity so that people have better options then driving is not an emmissions reducing activity. But, If you tax people, and let them continue to emit that is an emmissions reduction program. If you increase the price of Diesel so that there is no advantage in using a lower emmissions fuel, so that people will buy regular fuel cars vs those thumpy noisey things made in Mexico driven by people I hate named Wilber, then that is an emmissions reduction program. And if you give back the tax money generated, to people of wealth, then that is an emmissions reduction program. And of course, no other services will be affected by this lowering of income tax, because the monies you collected from the Green Shift will be given back to... well all sorts of programs, or income tax or child care, or health or , income tax breaks or happy time, because every dollar you collect, the emmissions will be reduced by ZERO. These are emmission reduction programs? No This is a tax! It is not an emmissions reduction program. I understand this magic tax. Puff the Magic Dragon lived by the sea....

Bush is commander in chief.

I didn't know that Ignatieff did a mea culpa. I also didn't know that Harper kept changing his story. You've got me interest.......

Going into Afghanistan was to get OBL. Remember him. "We're gonna smoke him out" WMD was the whopper of a lie used to invade Iraq. Found more WMD with that US Scientist who committed suicide just back. I don't know what state he lived in, but it is a good thing the US didn't bomb the hell out of it

The tactics that the Taleban use are terrorist. There goal is to spread fear and terror. This is a traditional way of fighting well prior to 1979. Like other Pashtuns, the Taliban are not known to strike outside their country. They also, in general follow the Pashtunwali code, which is how one survives in a land that has been governed by Anarchy, and has always been considered ungovernable for centuries. The US supported these terrorist tactics along with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Obviously, we know Saudi Arabia was beheading people publicly while George Bush was calling them, great friends in the fight against terror. That's why he let all the Bin Ladens go home. Guerrilla tactics and terrorist tactics were used by the Taliban and by the Northern Alliance, as well as all the independent warlords etc, whose loyalties shift by the week. Mafia problems exist as well. Anyone caught on the wrong end of a conflict is often called a Taliban, when it really isn't known if they are or aren't, but they often are hostile to western forces on their land. And that can get them killed, and unfortuneately all their relatives wanting to exact revenge. Unlike Bush, I have no use for the practices of Saudi Arabia and their public beheadings or their wahabbi religion that they imported into Afghanistan, which created a group of people(Taleban and non Taleban) who will never willingly change these religion values or their views of woman. They are capable of putting down their arms, and this can be done piecemeal easier then it would be to get Omar to call it a day. Karzai knows this, but the search and destroy mission undermines this process. There have been successful and unsuccessful dialogues with those taliban and taliban supporters, and these occur even within our own command structure. The object is to get to a position of stability and then peace. Blood and religion is thicker then western idealism and force. The Taliban may have people who do not support them, but will support their kin if they are harmed if fighting for the taliban or if accidentally killed by an errant bullet or bomb.

I don't see alot of differences in the cultural ideals between the people of Afghanistan (Taliban/Non Taliban? Sure one group flies kites and the others don't, and one lets you use the car radio and the other doesn't. But haggling over whether it is best to kill your adulterous wife in Public (Taliban) or in Private (Non Taliban) is splitting hairs to me. Also, the Gay Friday thing I find pretty sick, which is the story that made the Taliban famous for stopping Men raping boys back in the 1990s, and apparently this is back and we are standing by watching. The Taliban are using terrorist tactics, and I don't know of a good type of terrorist. The IRA were terrorists of the worst type, and I got lucky by one subway stop. I agree that the Majority want nothing to do with them. Unfortuneately, I have yet to see any kind of proof that the majority want anything to do with us. The enemy benefits 100 fold for every mistake we make. Yet.... When the aid workers were killed, how many Pashtuns gave a care? When a Canadian Soldier is killed how many Pashtuns give one bit about the life lost? I doubt the population would miss us and those forces engaged in search and detroy missiosn who accidently kill innocents, while seeking the enemy. If Karzai cannot create an army in 7 years, in a country that can create a military force in a day, then he is never going to have a loyal army.

Dion has renamed the Excise Tax a Carbon Tax POOF lower emissions..... It's a scam. Anyone who tries to inhibit others who successfully lower emmissions by punishing them with a tax is spin doctor selling bad medicine. Nor is that person really concerned about the environment or solutions, but more interested in helping a political party that has been absent while in opposition. The Green shift is snake oil. Perhaps the LPC love the chaos behind the scheme. A proposal that can mean anything to anyone, as long as they sell it and as long as they receive the tax revenue. Laytons Promise to take the excise tax and give a portion of it to the cities to invest in local transit is a practicle measure that doesn't take a magician to explain it.

That is the problem. If you cannot provide Stability and security, anything will look better. Afghanistan is posing a similar problem.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, and the rest of his incompetent troop were fingering Iraq Sept, 12. Opportunity knocks. Lie to the public, the US has to live with those lies. There was a opportunity to receive the support from around the globe, not just Canada, and quite frankly, Bush wasn't interested. Incompetence is my way of giving respect to a President who deliberately started a war in Iraq. I have the term War Criminal in mind most of the time. But it will never happen. Yes, incompetence can be found in Ottawa. Both Ignatieff and Harper wanted to invade Iraq and support naked aggression. With talk like that..... watch a good Rambo III movie. Enjoy those holy warriors. Better yet, watch the Rambo II.... "Do we get to win this time" Too bad Bush and Cheney didn't resign or get impeached. Leaving is on offer. You won't miss our committment, nor do you appreciate our 7 years there.
