Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I take it the Indian and Chinese are purchasing your product? Perhaps you didn't realize that Ontario Farmers also benefit from Chinese/Indian spending power. Perhaps you are unaware that Ontario Resources are purchased by Indian and CHinese firms. Just to inform you, that there is also Purchasing power involved. For that matter you can add the Brazillians and just about every other country in the world. All Canadians, Not just "Western" Canadians, benefit from trade. I see people working for $86 take home on a 12 hour night shift, and their operations pack up and "outsource" to a foreign location. I watch processing plants that pay low wages close, leaving profitable farmers with no option but to uproot their orchards. They ain't CAW brothers and sisters. What I have seen is various unions fight large companies that have no intention of paying their employees while packing up shop and relocating in a foreign country. I have seen successes in these fights, as they are joined by the management staff, and sometimes these profitable companies are then sold to new purchasers with the committment to stay. I also have been witness to many non union shops and their office staff get totally F(*#*# over. 2000 in a plastic injection molding facility to be the latest. Regardless, to be fair to you. 44,000 full time jobs were lost in Ontario this month. 22,000 Part time jobs were created and 10,000 Full time jobs were created in Alberta. I am looking for 34,000 more full time jobs in the other provinces How many are you hiring? They have oil and hydro electric power. Ever looked at trade deals and Provincial Restrictions? Maybe you should talk to an East Coaster, and see what they think about Harper Shafting them in an about face on natural resources? Regardless, you will see that the East Coast shares the same concerns about the "tax shift" and Carbon Tax policies as do most other Canadians in every province, not just Western Canada. Many companies that operate in Ontario, are registered in NS and NB for lower taxes, and to circumvent Ontario Laws. If you set up a holding company, that is where you go. Any American worth his salt knows this. All Countries require "energy" to be productive. Fair trade deals are also required. It's called a level playing field, and we know that it is not level. Many of the same bunch of clowns in now are tied to the previous PC party that virtually bankrupted the Province. They have good reason not to be as incompetent as their last kick at the can. They were worse then Bob Rae, which is a difficult feat to achieve. Worse then any East Coast Government. Regardless, you remove the oil resources, and the wealth of the Provinces changes dramatically. Get ready for More Taxes on Oil. It's coming. Would you like a tax shift with that? -

Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan

Our NAFTA mechanism isn't worth shit, so you may have valid point. Apparently their improved lifestyle is at the expense of ours. Good for them, bad for us. Good for those Corporations, bigger profits and lower environmental standards. The Latter being bad for the Chinese and us.I happen to be a Canadian, and watching all the screwups that occur in China while we close our functioning operations is disturbing. However some people take glee in this, and then suggest that it will lower GHG. We have been surprising resiliant. Most offset by the fact that we have large oil resources, and other natural resources that is being exported. If Alberta didn't have oil we'd be F**K##. Take Albertas oil resource sector and support out of the equation, and the Country doesn't look all that healthy. Essentially, Alberta is in the clear for the next while, while Sask has benefited from the stability and direction of the previous government, even increasing its manufacturing base, and now is in the hands of a government that is smart enough not to pull off another Devine Act. BC could hold out, but may be on the brink, as well as Ontario, Quebec, which are forest and other natural resource economies along with Manufacturing. The US is in the toilet because............ the list is too damn long.... but the sooner that clown Bush is gone the better. But that unfortuneately isn't going to be enough. -
I have seen alot of discussion on the populist Argus Party. But not everyone can agree. In true historical CFL Canadian Fashion, I have arbitrarily created two new parties to contest the Argus Party. 1) Argus Party 2) Argusnaught Party 3) ArgusNOT Party The official leader of the opposition shall have the official title of JASON Jack Asses Soley Opposing Nothing Just a bit of fun

Do Canadians save for retirement?
madmax replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just because housing prices increased, doesn't mean that this is a retirement plan. Also those on the tail end of the boomers, have probably been caught in each major recession, and job loss. Regardless many of the retirement boomers today, do appear to have a pretty good nest egg and yes, possibly a home. Don't forget, housing prices have collasped before, but don't expect this to happen again. Not like the 80s, and we certainly don't have those free market housing policies of the US. We have some pretty sane housing policies. Just don't buy those garbage new homes Regardless, the housing market has been pretty solid, but it is about to fall flat, and it is becoming a buyers market. Housing depends upon which province you live in, and which city. Some people are definitely cashing in with pension like rewards. In the meantime, with the wages falling in many Provinces, costs increasing, it won't surprise me if our next Generation puts away money for retirement like those in the US. We started to emulate their policies some 20 years back, so I am not surprised we are sliding down the same pit with them. I believe that the next generation will make less money then their parents, and better hope on getting some of that dough when the parents sell the home. -
That is correct. Hypocracy is to suggest that we are doing something when we are not. That is tax shifting. That is signing Kyoto and ignoring it. On the same hand, if someone is telling you the planet is in dire straits, and we have to cut back out .004 contribution to GHG to .0032 while Chinas begins to exceed the US, would indicate that nobody seems to damned concern about GHG in China. We could go as dark as North Korea. Yet if China continues to grow and increase its emmissions, exceeding the #1 industrialized superpower, then this planet is going to get hotter and you can expect to see those polar icecaps continue to melt, and watch them white bears drown. It is this total lack of concern about the growth of emmissions in other countries, where the economy of their nations come first, that has me wondering about the truth behind the Liberal Tax and shift plan. It is clear to me that they do not care about GHG other then as a political tool, to get into power.

Are you? This is like accepting intensity targets? One thing is certain, they are going up, and going up rapidly. They will continue to go up, and accellarate at an alarming speed. Yet you should care not. We have tax shifting.

Funny that you mention that. (Btw, just edited post above yours). I expect progress on the heating front, but it appears that alot of time in the hybrids is spent on heating in the winter, using the combustion engine. As Canada is getting "warmer" see some other popular threads, don't worry about heating

The biggest flaw of the ZAP is that it was able to do only 25km, and now 40km per hour. This STINKS, as a functional vehicle. Now what are they doing wrong..... 100km an hour over 1 century ago, and these guys can't come up with a vehicle 50% of that speed. They wanted press, they got press. I don't think people know this .

Hilton Head. You aren't allowed to bring your pickup truck there. It is a resort, elite community. Since many of my nieces and nephews have travelled to the US and worked on Hilton Head in the service sector, I can tell you the stories they have regarding the poverty just a few miles away is frightening. Luckily the people are friendly. Maybe you missed the Single and Double Wide trailers which are homes for many of the inhabitants of that state. Good Lord, Canada has been sliding rapidly, and getting by on the happy chance of having an abundance of Natural Resources. Yet we have sold these out, and even though Alberta is in a boom, it is not because of some supernatural political structure or economic vision. It is Black Gold. Often our wealth resides with our policies. We decided sometime ago to tear down these policies for the "benefit" of Canadians and as we chip away at them, we slide further down the scale. But to even mention a Millionaires retreat, and a Golfing region as the measure of a Nation is rather funny. BTW there are plenty of Homes forsale in the US at this time. They are going for cheap.

HUH? Care to explain these other plans? -
Is the farmer not a voting member? There are many things one can believe in, or not believe in. The farmer should believe in democracy, and the views of his peers. So perhaps you and this said farmer are in agreement. Are you in the majority or not?

You made it appear like "the Markets" are the only way to put a "price" on an unwanted commoditiy. More disagreement from the backer of Dion.

ummm, .....for you to say that tax shifting is "effiecient" is nothing more then a LIE. It is a tool, and it is a tool that may not be appropriate for the task it is supposed to accomplish. That is all that is known about it. IF you mention the Socialist country of Sweden, you better adopt all of their income and tax policies, because the effects of the "carbon" tax does not work the same way there, that it would here under the LPC scheme.

Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That all depends upon which country you live in. China is about to surpass the US as the Largest CHG emmitter and may well be the largest polluter, and this is both the market and government policy aiding the increasing in environmentally unfriendly activities. -

Fuel Prices Displaces Environment as #1 Issue (Poll)
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I agree with you comments. I want to point out an interesting quote from this article. http://www.bclocalnews.com/surrey_area/sur...s/24028519.html The last sentence is either phoney Bullshit, by a government that can't explain why they aren't applying the tax, or it is so truthful as to put into question, how much a difference that 2.4 cents makes on top of the 60 cent increase. Essentially they get to buy at 2.4cents cheaper while BC ships and destinations pay. I think the BC libs are really going to pay a price over their Tax as more people become aware of who gets the free ride and who shoulders the burden. -

I guess we will find out what Liberals think about it in the Bi Election in Guelph. From the Conservative Candidate Press release http://www.gloriakovach.com/PressReleases/...Tax-Scheme.aspx Of course being a party press release, I am certain it is not partisan. Ok, it is partisan. But there hasn't been any comment from the LPC Candidate, drooling over the Tax Scheme. -
Alberta: Francophone scores key win in court
madmax replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Apparently BC needs (English or French) as a 2nd language course for all these immigrants that speak neither language. If I were to live in another country, I would learn the language of that country. Obviously, if living in BC, french wouldn't be a first choice. But if the immigrant came to Quebec, it could well be their first choice. We have two official languages. The people above are free to keep their language, but they should learn at least one of the two languages of our country. -

Fuel Prices Displaces Environment as #1 Issue (Poll)
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I am starting to appreciate why the people of BC are frustrated. http://www.bclocalnews.com/vancouver_islan...s/22782289.html Logging trucks travelling further are exempt. Rigs going to local mills are stung. Sure stick it to the locals and the local mills. I don't believe that $100 is going to buy enough love. -
Emerson was elected. Fortier was NOT elected. If we are going to put party hacks into the Senate and then give them Cabinet positions, then why bother with elections. My problem with both Emerson and Fortier are with regards to Stephan Harper and his betrayal of the better Reform policies. All the spinning and sweet talking and excuse making cannot hide the fact that Harper cast doubt upon the party within hours of taking office. An immediate loss of trust. So regardless of Emerson being a turncoat, the first thing you have to remember is he is a Liberal, so that is to be expected. There isn't alot of difference between the two governments and Emerson proves that point. He has been given two high profile positions, and he is from "the west" so, Harper didn't have to chose Emerson over another Western MP, because of Government Politics, more it was because of CPC party opportunism he choose Emerson. "Hey, look at us, we don't mean a damn thing that campaigned on and the electorate will forget." Regardless, one duffus is replaced. And two people who believe in a "party of entitlement" are given powerful portfolios. On the whole. Nobody cares a wit about the cabinet shuffle or this government. And so the free ride continues as it did when the Libs were in power. Harper should ignore regional issues as you suggest. But he has the talent pool to appoint Cabinet Ministers from the Elected Members. If he doesn't, he should pack in the government as unfit to govern, and their elected officials resign. There are some people that should be in and are not. There are some people in who have no qualifications for such a position. If it is so hard for the CPC to find someone competent, then they should look across the floor. I am totally against party hacks getting a free ride as unelected Cabinet Ministers.
