  1. That's Correct. The East got to see all those wonderful, "Let the Eastern Bastards freeze in the DARK" bumper stickers, all the while the vast majority of our oil purchases came from offshore. It didn't turn into a windfall either, as world oil prices fell dramatically, and the scare had ended, by the time the program was in effect. Nobody won. But it has been great political Capital for the West to use for 25 years, against the LPC. How about a Tax Shift, and a handout to Oil companies to help them Export that oil.
  2. That oil isn't going anywhere. The is no reason to subsidize the foreign export of oil.
  3. Yes, I have been to Europe, and to the US. A fair deal is required, not one that gives the US a better deal on oil, then in our own country. No worries for you either, it's not like the price would go up to European levels, if we ended the freebies and taxbreaks to the oil fields and put on an export tax on the fuel sold. It's for the good of the environment
  4. I never realized how little it takes to make you happy. Where's the "after party" when it goes down 12 cents?
  5. TAX SHIFT !!! What do you think that is? And if that is the only part that you disagree with, "the subsidization of oil", you have not been able to separate it from your argument here or in any other thread regarding Fuel and Tax SHifting. Come up with your own plan and stop promoting Political Party Policy, that goes against your views. You cannot have it both ways. But that is the intent of the Liberal "TAX SHAFT" To fool people. You are either fooled or trying to fool people. If you are fooled. I apologise. If you are trying to fool me or spin me, it ain't happening.
  6. That you differentiate between Canadian purchasers and the foreign purchasers of Oil. You choose to suggest that only Canadians should pay for the Tax. That Canadians shouldn't subsidize oil for the benefit of Canadians. Yet you promote a policy supported by the Liberals and Greens of tax shifting, and subsidization of the oil fields, while burdening only Canadians with the extra expense. Its f*#@(& stupid is my point. Giving the oil companies a tax break, is a subsidy on Carbon, that you wish to shaft onto average Canadians trying to heat their homes and get to work by moving the tax onto the end user. But more oil is Exported and it isn't touched. You have no problem killing the economic engine of Canada by taking an already unbalanced playing field and tilting upside down (For the sake of argument, should I say right or left). It's as STUPID as the BC Liberals who DON'T tax the Fuel if you are driving to the US, but DO tax the fuel if you are driving within BC supporting local business. It is retarded. That is my point. The price of fuel is too high, oil companies make excessive profits and we give them handouts.
  7. How about a Carbon Tax? Would that make you feel better. What about....... if "only" Canadians paid the Carbon Tax..... and then we give the money to the Oil companies in subsidies. Is that ok?
  8. The Market, and Market Demand would determine when those resources should become extracted. Now, if the reason was a Socialist handout to develop those resources in "hard times" then one can easily see that times are pretty good in the oil patch, and they do not need a handout. If they are to become subsidized, better it be for Canadians, as its our money, so we should get it back. Until then, consumption goes offshore, and we get stuck with the "carbon footprint" which is stupid, and pay for others to have cheap affordable fuel. Nothing against you, but our governments like to stick it to us, and do a great job of it. Your Government is protecting your supply sources. It makes good sense. Ours taxes us more again, and sends it to you untaxed in huge volumes. Some people believe that the tax will save the planet. A strong economy requires you to put a roof over your head, food on the table and a good job. An Energy and Trade policy is the backbone of success to an export nation. But we also have a domestic economy that governments have dismissed since Mulroney. Nothing near the scope of other countries. They have done a much better job of protecting and benefiting from those resources. Well, we are not Cuba either. So I doubt that we can score a good deal from them, and they know that Canada has LOTS of Oil. However, I believe Chavez has offered the US cheap oil to certain sectors of the country. You lucky guys you. Chavez subsidizes his oil, for the benefit of the public, the middle class particularly. I have been there. They are very hot blooded about the black gold. Was no different with the right wing dictators before him when I was there. They did the same then, and it was cheaper to purchase. You will have to try to overthrow him (again X3). But you already purchase lots of Venezualan oil, and we do to. So don't screw up another oil exporting nation just for the "namesake" of your handle.
  9. The degrading thing to Canadians was to say, Whores and Hockey Players. I am not fond of the comments of Topaz because it diverts attention from the real issues. And quite Frankly, many parts have come from Mexico and offshore to those very assembly plants across NA that people choose to criticise. The Assemblers cannot be responsible for the crap that gets past in trying to reduce costs and use low cost foreign production of auto parts. However, the Cars from Mexico, in particular VW which has been there for decades has improved markedly as have the wages of the Mexicans who are Unionized and seem to go on strike every 2 to 3 years. The Japanese Manufacturers use more locally produced parts, which is ironic, and many of their suppliers are not leaving, much like the Japanese Auto Plants. More education needs to be done, but I don't think people really care much more then their purchasing or political bias. I do not like GM taking the money and running off. Regardless of their lying PR spin from a lacky in Oshawa who is clearly outta the decision making loop. Interesting enough, Today, a trucking company has packed it in citing the loss of manufacturing, high gas prices, and low volume of distribution. Essentially they couldn't pay their Fuel Bills and it was game over. The trucking industry has been growing rapidly in the last 5 years and while wages have been going down, it will not be enough to offset the large price increases in fuel. I am curious to see if this trend continues. Some would cheer about this too. But it certain cannot be blamed on Mexico or some bias towards Mexicans. That is a US problem for the time being
  10. Keep Spinning. It is a SCAM. It does not prevent anything that we don't want. Nor is it giving us anything that we do want. It is the worst part of the tax polices of Mike Harris, Brian Mulroney and Gordon Campbell all rolled into one. Then some Liberal spending Promises, revised again from the Red Book of neglect. Much like the environment under their governance.
  11. Liberal and Conservative governments subsidize the Oil and Gas Industries. What's your point? That is not changing. Why should we give tax breaks & Subsidies to OIL? We do, and it is THOSE countries listed above that benefit. Not ours? So why in Sam Hill should Canadian Taxes be used to help them and punish us? End the tax breaks, and the subsidies and it is a different issue. Otherwise we are getting the shaft.
  12. The CST is just another GST in disguise. Why should the money be spent on the Environment? This is a Carbon Tax Plan.
  13. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/st...9c-f86af9b73d57 She says that the Next Candidate and NDP can win. I have to wonder though, Donna Cadman endorsed her last time. Are they friends?
  14. Can I run my motorcycle on rice? Some older harley riders call it a Rice Rocket. I will accept Tarriffed Rice if it works. Tariffs are a no no and countries have been working to remove them. However, with the "environment" becoming the defacto issue, and gas shortages, voices will build to secure "their"oil, and tax oil exports.
  15. I am not certain that is true. We are tied to many various agreements and orgs. But I think its time to shed these foreign consumption deals and save the planet. Tax the export oil. Canada is a minion. We supply the US oil. The US is also very nationalist and protectionists which can rise up very fast during periods of economic hardship and failure. We see that now, as they shut down CDN operations to support US operations. The US oil Should be on the Open Market. We import alot of oil. We pay a higher prices for our imported oil and they protect their domestic and foreign supply.
  16. So we Carbon Tax our Oil, and Don't Carbon Tax the Export Oil. Funny how that works too. NAFTA doesn't allow alot of things, but that doesn't mean squat when we win. No Enforcement Mech. Just Tax the Export Oil.
  17. Hr like you describe above exist in the Private Sphere, not soley Public. I am not a fan of them. Do you use federal computers to post these messages?
  18. Sorry bub. We signed a trade deal that says Oil & Natural Gas goes to the US. Supported by all Canadian Governments since Mulroney.
  19. Well Argus. Much as I hate your party. And this thread, you hit on some stuff. They are not all prisoners either, in the crime committing sense. Just some poor suckers in the wrong place at the wrong time. And children too. Here is something to back you up from the ArgusNOTs. http://www.antislavery.org/homepage/news/china130801.htm and some of this http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/06/15/news/china.php Child slave labor revelations sweeping China By Howard W. French Published: June 15, 2007 and this link http://www.opendemocracy.net/democracy_pow...ve_labour_china And we have that incident in Alberta. Not quite slave labour, but with 2 dead china men and wages for an engineer and electrician averaging $2.47cents/hour in Fort McMurray. The Chinese are still being used as cheap foreign labour and as National Slaves.
  20. I hear that alot of federal employees post messages on bulletin boards while on the tax-payers dime. Waste of money and bandwidth. So, you left the Private Sector for a cushy government job.
  21. I wonder if there is a reciprocal agreement for Canada.
  22. hmm. I think you have "issues" on this topic. Regardless, Iunderstand your position on commodities. The other stuff is straying too far off topic and I would love to rebutt and address in positive manner some of your points. Some of which I agree with above and those which I do not. Too busy now, and I will create another thread later for that discussion. So, I guess you don't want a "Carbon Tax"
  23. http://news.guelphmercury.com/News/article/353029 A consumer revolt not seen since Rogers Negative Billing. While we have been carbon this and carbon that, numerous mainstream pages (Politics ain't mainstream) have been running wild on this topic. I heard about this a few days back, and thought it was just another news item and a bad company decision. My guess is that with this kind of heat, (and Rogers waiting to scoop up the disgruntled consumer), that Bell and Telus are going to turn tail.
  24. He is not going to remain in the US. The next President is going to make certain of this.
  25. In Ontario, they use US and Canadian Cattle Corn. I have no idea how much this affects the individual farmers/industrial cattle farms who purchased Cattle corn.
