In short - 'Russia' is a dear old name for a people that are disintigrating. The height of Russian 'power' is now. It 'ebbs and flows' as they say, but is now in a phase unlike of which has never been encountered in any society, ever before. It is in it's death throews... The biggest nuclear arsenal in mankinds history will be left to the people that never made it - to dispose of. THIS will be the largest threat to the 'western world' in our time. I do not find it mistitled at all. The title of 'America Alone' describes how other western civilizations are seemingly self-destructing. Indeed, the most poignant examples are that of Russia which is only nominally apart of 'Europe'. What I find ironic is that the first civilization on the world that is overly conscious of the environment is dying a slow death from a lack of reproduction which the 'doom sayers' of the '70's were arguing the exact opposite of. Is it just me or are the 'left' causes 'du jour' almost always wrong and direct energy away from the true problems that are beseting us - longer term. "peace in our times" For example, there is hardly any newspaper articles about the dramatic decline in birth rates in the 'western world' but a multitude of articles of 'climate change' in which all statistics seemingly ignore this demographic phenomena in their 'computer models' of 'man made greenhouse gases' that are being relaesed into the atmosphere. Why does the 'left' concentrate on GHG's when there are a multitude of reasons to concentrate on our release of pollutants that cause toxic water, air and earth? Is it because largely, in the 'developed' world these problems, the worst of them, have been dealth with? Do we ignore the raw sewage many many 'older' cities continue to dump into our environment without making headlines? Do we move onto something else because the literal crap in our oceans and rivers are to a level sufficient enough to go for a dip on a hot day? It doesn't smell as bad as a fresh 'squit' into our collective toilet's so it's all good? I hope more people start asking themselves these questions and move on from that 'GHG' hysteria that is gripping us now.

The ONLY reason that some Canadian farmers are in dire straights and knee-jerk for more subsidies is that the US and EU subsidize their farmers MUCh MUCH more. It is not a FREE market. It's a competion of tax payer apathy. We are at the lowest ebb so a decrease in EU and US farmer subsidies benefit Canada and not to mention AFRICA. It amazes me that the anti-poverty corwds always mention a % GDP solution on third world poverty but not only do not mention, but are seemingly blithley unaware of this unfair trade practice that does more to keep Africa from 'developing' than does their HIV and Muslim issues.. Funny isn't it?

The market provides that incentive. Already maritimers are starting to move back. It's not because the government is 'encouraging them to'. It is the market that is encouraging them to. The federal and provincial governments have to concentrate on 'primary' business of government and get out of the way of free enterprise more than they are now. There are encouraging signs but it has to be consistent and longer term. We shall see. NO! The maritimes need to buck up and get off the proverbial government teet and function on their own. This is coming from a Maritimer. We need to stop blaming others and look at ourselves in the mirror. You think the maritmers that are left are happy that their children have to move away to be as financially independant as they were allowed to be? No. Less government and less taxes. Go for the Irish model. Coincidentally Ireland was depressed for many generations and they have bucked up.. Why can't their cousins in the maritimes? The only reason that they can't will be a one-word answer: Government. YOu do know that michelin is a french company... One needs only look to France's economy/society to see how that is working/or not. You need to do more research.

Unfortunately, the current SCC tends to make up law as it goes on when it comes to aboriginals so the feds can't really afford to let it go to court.Incidently, this a good example of how the legal system discriminates in favour of aboriginals. A group of white people would be entitled to nothing even if they could prove that their ancestors were defrauded by the government 150 years ago because of a principal called the doctrine of latches. This is a 'use or lose it' principal in law which requires someone who is wronged to enforce their rights within a reasonable period of time. Good point. This whole land claim issue is sickening. The issue needs to be settled once for and all, country wide and then move on. How much more can society keep giving? And who should we all keep giving it to? Settle the "debt", pass legislation to keep it that way, and stop with the handouts, special treatment, etc. If we are all to be members that are equal in society, then treat us all as equals. If there is a debt-pay it. And move on. That means EVERYONE pays taxes, no more handouts, etc. I would rather see a lump sum payment to go towards aboriginal land claims that comes out of all of our pockets and finalize things, rather than bleed us all dry for another hundred years or so and still leave things unresolved. Thank you! I am sick and tired of living under a racist constitution.

I think the fairest income taxes are for individuals. Why penalize single taxpayers which many people start off as and often end up as? As do I. But you CANNOT argue that a couple that HAS children is not more valuable to our society as those that do not. YOU can't because it is true. And our taxation, faulty as it may be, DOES attempt to recognize this - for that exact reason.

Support for the mission has always been rather split. It always goes down with casualties. If you think it will go up with casualties this time, you might be mistaken. Actually, that is false. Support FOR the mission went UP last spring whne we were getting the most casualties. Too bad your bias cannot recognize that - as it is the truth.
