  1. A bit contradictory there. Nobody goes to work willingly they go to work because they have to. The conditions of that work is the responsibility of the factory not the worker so if you own stocks how responsible is your portfolio? http://www.usatoday.com/money/world/2005-0...ina-cover_x.htm USATODAY.com - Pollution poisons China's progress What? Peopel in China are leaving the rice patties in droves going to work at these factories that you people brush off as 'slave labour'. If they are slaves now what were they before they left to go there? THINK people.
  2. Are you shitting me? aye?
  3. ok, but that is only for CO2. I couldn't care less personally. I was speaking of other gasses and particulate matter. But I'm glad they are getting cleaner.
  4. That is good byt they are still less clean than gasoline engines.
  5. CO? You mean Co2? who cares? that is a benign gas. I'm more worried about Co3 and the other noxious crap that come out of diesels moreso than gas engines.
  6. Again, diesels have always produced 20% less CO2 and much less CO than gas engines. CO2 is the major product of greenhouse gas from vehicles. Why? a big reason is because they burn less fuel. New technology is going a long way to reduce their other emissions like they have for gas engines. I have a 1966 vintage car with a great honkin V8 and no emission controls. It's exhaust stinks when it is running and pollutes far more than modern diesels in every category. True, Dieses is a more efficient fuel and diesel angines more efficient than gasoline but Diesel discharge much more particulate into the air than do gasoline powered vehicles. It does not burn as well.
  7. Who cares if it is an incentive, why give it to him at all. Reward efficiency, not the flavor of the day technology. You better double that 14K if you want to buy a hybrid. I think hybrid technology will be around for a long time. Well at least until they perfect the hydrogen engine anyways. Sometimes an incentive to adopt new technology is a good thing to decrease the length of the rate of adoption. It shouldn't be permament but early adoption of thsi technology may go a way to reduce smog levels in Toronto for instance.
  8. good post Army guy
  9. Sure. $2000 to someone plunking down $70k isn't much of an incentive. $2k on a car that costs 14k is. it all comes out in the wash.
  10. The difference between those conflicts and the current one is that the decision to go there was made by politicians, while the current one is very much driven by the military behind the scenes. It is Hillier's job to ensure that the military performs its duties well, not to decide what those duties should be. Name me ONE conflict that Canada has been in that was not determine by 'politicians'?? None. that's how many. The only difference this time is that you are whining about this one for partisan points. funny how that works.
  11. The opposition is not soft on terror or crime. They promote rehabilitation along with punishment. If we are going to lock people up and throw away the key we may as well just start up the death penalty. And if we are going to hold people based on accusations, based on the anti-terror acts, we may as well throw out the whole court systems as well. Why don’t we just adopt all of Hitler’s policies. You mean like gun control? That was a 'Hitler' policy. How about gun confiscation? Oops! damnit how that works. Hitler again! Ooopsie!!
  12. This whole thread was started because of someone being envious of someone's else's means. Isn't that how communism started? Just saying. Stop worrying about peopel that are more well off than you and concentrate on making sure that you get there yourself someday. Ironically, well heeled people pay the VAST majority of taxes in this country. So if ONE social program happens to come back and benefit them then I think that is great. They are wealthy, so more than likely they will not waste the money than alot of the so called 'poor' may. Afterall, it's not what you make, it's what you do with it. Alot of people here need to grow up and stop being so jealous.
  13. It fills my little heart with joy that the far left just can't stand it that Harper is the PM of Canada. Well, get used to it ladies! hahahahahaha!!!
  14. I do not see that to be true. Economic activity is emotionless. There is no "exploit" to economic activity in its pureist form which is what globalization represents. What is sad is the lost dreams many in the west are experiencing because of the sea of people China represents. Their good jobs, and lifestyle they had grown to expect may not be available because of the Asian invasion. Globalization is not economic activity in it's purest form, it is simply profit maximisation before everything else. The Asians haven't invaded, the wests companies have invaded them in search of cheaper workers so as to increase profits. I have never read anywhere that asians have taken over a factory and demanded lower wages . huh? It';s called capitalism. The 'slave labourers' work there of their own free will. They could always go back to the rice paddy if it was so bad.
  15. You just posted that a couple of pages back. Are you running out of ideas?
  16. No Smog is POLLUTION. You NEED to get this straight in your head. They are NOT directly related. If you removed 100% of man-made CO2 there will still be smog. It is NOT a 'localized' global warming effect. Smog has been around for over 100 years - well before any global warming came to the table. Ok, true enough. I was thinking about Europe and N.A. I mis-spoke. Ironic that the countries that don't have to sign Kyoto are the one's that are losing their forest cover don't you think? Increasing the prosperity of the developing world through liberalised trade and pressure on corrupt governments through the world bank will do much more to alleviate this problem than Kyoto will. It's also heartenign to see that the rade of reduction has slowed and improved in the past decade. Hopefully this will continue and the rest of the world will have forestry practises that work as well as ours do.
  17. Interesting, I would love to see a link that shows how world forest density, North American, Europe, South America, etc, has increased over the last 200 years. Can you supply one? All I have found is some recent statistics indicating quite the opposite. From http://www.fao.org/forestry/site/28679/en/ -Each year about 13 million hectares of the world's forests are lost due to deforestation, but the rate of net forest loss is slowing down, thanks to new planting and natural expansion of existing forests. -From 1990 to 2000, the net forest loss was 8.9 million hectares per year. -From 2000 to 2005, the net forest loss was 7.3 million hectares per year - an area the size of Sierra Leone or Panama and equivalent to 200 km2 per day. Smog is composed of: Smoke particles, Carbon Dioxide, hydrochloric acid, flourine, and sulphur dioxide (which converts into sulphuric acid, acid rain) and other less abundant trace elements. CO2 = Carbon dioxide. Isn't "plant food" a nice way of putting it? Its also a poison that we expell from our bodies every exhale, and one that can kill us. Depending on context, it can be good (plants need it) and bad (we die from it). But in either case, increasing its concentration, with no mind to the effects of that increase, is foolish. First off. Smog is composed of this: nitrogen oxides, such as nitrogen dioxide tropospheric ozone volatile organic compounds (VOCs) peroxyacyl nitrates (PAN) aldehydes (R'O) Co2 has nothing to do with smog wether or not it is found in it. And again, Co2 is NOT a pollutant. As far as too much can kill you, too much oxygen can kill you too. Doesn't make it a pollutant does it? Second of all, forests are expanding in Europe and North America. (which is what I stated) The only places where they are receding is in poor countries where peasants are forced to slash and burn for their livestock and for agriculture. Coincidentally, none of these countries are bound by the kyoto protocal:0 Countries that have modern sawmills and forestry companies all have expanding woodlands coverage or at the very least are stable. You want to improve forest cover? Encourage globalization and the wealth that brings to the developing world. The best hope for the Brazilian rainforest is Brazil's recent GDP surge.
  18. criticism from you margrace can only be taken as praise. same goes with you catchme. As long as he is making people as ideologically loonie as you folks - then he must be doing everything right.
  19. Hillier is a great role model. If my kid was in the military I would be thanking my stars he had someone like that for a boss. Perhaps you wouldn't be, perhaps you may be criticizing him for wrongful war mongering policies and making the situation in the world worse and needlessly endangering canadian military lives. And perhaps endangering your kid's life needlessly. Good thing you'r just arm chairing your support though, and your "kid" is not actually in the military. Because he was and is wrong. On all accounts. Please read: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....16entry188216 Poser, you LIED about being a veteran of the CF's. You are also probably lying about your grandfather's role in WW1. ie: you are a proven liar.
  20. I haven't heard you say ONE THING positive about our military poser. What you are doing is not critiqing, you have an agenda to discredit our military. (you know the one that you lied about being a member of).
  21. Well his moustache DOES have supernatural powers.
  22. Okay, how about this. We don't change the charter, we merely pass a law that would hold preachers of any religion to account to what they preach. For example, holding someone like Elmasry in Vancouver accountable for his preachings of martyrdom and murder when one of his congregation acts upon his teachings. Would this be any different than holding Charles Manson responsible for the killing of his disciples? We already have that. that is inciting violence. already against the law.
  23. And yet you refer to yourself as a centrist?
  24. That is a hell of a lot of cash but does it actually create daycare space? And what about the hit someone takes when their child hits seven? uhh.. they go to SCHOOL. jesus....
  25. man, margrace is barely literate. shame.
