Is Avaaz An Unregistered Lobbiest
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
LOL Still, why is an American org. so interested in influencing Canadian media and elections. Oh I know, it's a left wing cabal intent on spreading their brand of socialism, using their deep pockets and funding from where exactly. Registered third parties have to use all Canadian funds, and who check all of these thousands of name to see if they are Canadian. -

The registry would not have saved anyone from Gamil Gharbi (Lepine), it hasn't yet saved one life. -

If you believe that is what it's really about then I can sell you some swampland in Florida LOL Since when do Canadians care that much about cable fees and so on, they don't care about the CBC getting 65million a year out of them. The petition itself was a smear and could possibly have broken Canada's hate law, good reason for it being based outside Canada isn't it! As the article said, the group has no specific Canadian website, is incorporated and based in New York; archived copies of Avaaz’s website from as recently as last year read “we currently have staff based in Rio de Janeiro, Geneva, New York, London, and Washington DC,” without mentioning any Canadian presence. It is registered as a third party in Canada, it has deep pockets which it uses in order to interfere in Canadian politics. It is obviously fuelled by a left wing cabal with an agenda. Harper is no more a bully etc. than Chretien ever was, most of that is a media narrative perpetuated by the left. I agree about Atwood, a highly over rated writer. -

The cable packaging is a smoke screen, if you believe that, that is all it's about then I can sell you some swamp land in Florida. -

They didn't investigate it, they refused to consider the complaint. Someone needs to ask that this be reconsidered. Supporters of Avaaz and foreign interference in what Canadians get to watch, are telling us they are not 'foreign', it is not a U.S., they can't have it both ways. Not to mention the double standards around the issue of foreign interests, it's okay for Avaaz to interfere, but it's not okay for the NRA to help out some private clubs by giving them data. But whether Avaaz is actually a Canadian entity, entirely funded by Canadians, is a question that has implications for more than just how it operated in the past federal election; Avaaz's latest battle is to "Stop 'Fox News North'"--a petition on its website, now exceeding 80,000 signatures, to pressure Mr. Harper and CRTC chair Konrad Von Finckenstein to prevent Sun TV, the nascent channel being launched by Quebecor, from being "funded from our cable fees." Avaaz is either breaking the election rules or they really are a foreign socialist org. influenceing and interfering in Canadian politics etc. They can't have it both ways so someone really does need to investigate those deep pockets !! -
I have to believe that Avaaz is not following our rules, this certainly warrants investigation. Read more: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/09/20/kevin-libin-the-third-party-no-one-talks-about/#ixzz104j3XLko

Well, looky here who said they didn't want to take away guns. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/09/18/to-guns-seized.html Seizing guns from delinquent gun owners is a lot easier and much less risky than going after gangs armed with unregistered weapons. It's being seen to be doing something and fits right in with Miller's style of governance. If I were paranoid I might be thinking that the seizures are nicely timed for the long gun registry bill before the House this week. I might even think the Toronto police chief was snubbing the government. Why I might even suspect that the mayor and his top cop were lending support to Ignatieff as Parliament reconvenes. The Toronto branch of the Libranos wouldn't do something as blatant as that surely.

Chrisitne O'donnell wins Delaware
scribblet replied to Pliny's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What she said was: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/16/christine-odonnell-slams-_n_719201.html She's not exactly advocating that we outlaw anything, which would be pretty darned stupid if she did. She's right actually, if you legislate that abortion is illegal you support the anti-abortion crowd's morality but if you legalize it, then you are legislating in favour of pro-choice morality. Usually what you give to one, is taken from another, hopefully there's a middle ground, and I don't mean specifically abortion, that was just an example of legislating morality. -

She was pretty young then, but she didn't say she wanted it outlawed or banned that is just no true. No,I wouldn't vote for her but she's going to need really broad shoulders because she's going to have to endure a lot of attacks, just as with Sara Palin. The politics of demonization. She did say this, which is true Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/42348.html#ixzz0ztE0z5gL -
Charlton Heston wants long-gun registry scrapped...
scribblet replied to Radsickle's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There does seem to be a double standard here as with the Avaaz petition, it's okay for them to butt into Canadian affairs. This is MP Gary B. who makes mention of the connection, I also understand he has a database of grants, would be interesting to see it. http://www.themarknews.com/articles/1054-dump-the-gun-registry -

She may be a moralist and likely anti abortion, but she has never said she thinks masturbation should be banned, I suppose this is something that will be spread around from now on. -

There is plenty of evidence to point towards grants given by the liberals to lobbiests, to lobby against the registry. No debunking made - the evidence is there, just follow the money. -

They obsess with it it in order to paint her as a wild eyed radical, I read on another site that she wanted to 'outlaw' masturbation and adultery. She's never said any such thing, she just feels that it's wrong, words said when she was much younger. This is typical Alinsky politics of demonization and for the most part it works, look what they did and are doing to Sarah Palin. -
This is a lot of reading, which admittedly I haven’t done because it doesn’t seem to want to download it all. I have high speed but for some reason it’s stalling. Anyhoo, we know that Ontario came fairly close to allowing a part of Shariah into our law, and that there are attempts in other countries do introduce parts of it, so it really is incrementalism, a bit at a time. Toronto Municipal Elections 2010
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I think there's a bit of a tea party going on in Toronto, they are rising up against the entrenched left wing establishment, Ford represents the anti establishment. Personally I hope he gets in, just to shake them all up, even if it's only for one term. Go Ford !! -

Where's Waldo.... oops there he is on the left side I think LOL There is plenty of evidence to support the contention that there have been funds paid to groups where there shouldn't have been, the link I posted was the beginning of this year. and BTW, your personal attacks and name calling are against the rules of this forum, not to mention that name calling is the ammunition of the uninformed ( and unintelligent) !! -

scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I know in many states the KWH is higher than ours but they don't pay all the additional charges we do, or at least if they do, it is not broken down on their bill as ours is. McGuinty has to adjust the time of use so we don't have to do laundry in the middle of the night and reduce the rates. There's an article here about how this is hurting business. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/Ottawa+businesses+shocked+higher+hydro+bills/3514824/story.html It's time we started to get loud about this !!!
