  1. Exactly !! The Security Council doesn’t deserve Canada, but will now be used as political opportunism by the person who sure helped slip the wedge in.. Ignatieff, how very Un Canadian
  2. No surprise there, it's just a continuation of the the Liberals vilification of the CPC. They have nothing of substance to offer so have to rely on demonizing the Tories.
  3. This is the first time in 10 years that that Canada has tried for this spot.U.N. block voting, support for the underdog (Portugal), the EU, the Latin factor and so on probably had the most to do with Portugal winning the seat. One must not discount the the "brisk trade in votes" just prior to the election either. Canada has nothing to be ashamed of, standing by a country (Israel) continually under threat of annihilation when most of those bigots at the U.N. would like to see it happen themselves. We need to stand up for what we have done and stand by our record. The CPC has doubled foreign aid, boosted the International Assistance Envelope by eight per cent, or double the 2001 level and our work in Haiti was exemplary, plus the maternal health initiative. Too bad people tend to listen to the left wing propaganda. IMO there's a good analysis in the G&M today on how this smarmy business is conducted on the East River. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/canadas-security-council-bid-goes-down-to-the-wire/article1752586/?cmpid=nl-news1
  4. I highly doubt they would be allowed in a book store or any other public display. Factual isn't quite the word, graphic images showing a woman with a sword through her body, graphics of the Holocast, Obama with a Hitler moustache and so on are not 'factual', they simply intend to demean women and the millions of real people killed in the Holocaust. They do cross a moral line as John Haas, the president of the U.S. National Catholic Bioethics Center, a pro-life activist for 30 years, said in the National Post the use of graphic images raises serious moral issues that no amount of revulsion to abortion can justify. You really need to know what the GAP supporters really want, it's not just a ban on all abortion including rape and incest. They would also see oral contraceptives banned as they believe that the pill is really an 'abortifciant' and I don't mean the morning after pill as we know they are against that. Women are nothing to them they would send them back to the dark ages, bare foot and pregnant in the kitchen. Be very careful of whom you support and know their true intentions.
  5. I think there are other issues here that could be addressed and brought to light, although we don't have a GAP representative here to speak. ( do we ? ) I know that many of these anti abortion zealots also believe that the pill is an 'abortifactant' and should be banned, that's how far out these people are. What I'm not sure about is if they would actually like to bring forward legislation banning the pill, obviously if they did that, they would be outed as the wingnuts they really are.
  6. Facts - how do you know they are 'facts', so far we don't know that any conservative MP has been involved.
  7. I tend to agree, but is it not better to be at the table and possibly be able to improve the situation? My purpose in this was to ask about Ignatieff and why he would deliberately try to subvert the process and not want to be at the table. If we do not get the seat it will look bad for him IMP. I think it shows the blind partisanship of the Liberal party and lack of care bout Canada.
  8. So far there is no proof or evidence of any conservative MP's involvement, maybe we should wait for some facts rather than innuendo. As as the article said:
  9. Thanks for the reply
  10. Secret forecasts, screw the taxpayer and average guy - what is this, are supposed to bend over an take it without complaint... time for a teaparty in Ontario !!! http://opinion.financialpost.com/2010/10/07/terence-corcoran-power-failure/ he soaring price of electricity is due to the green-energy activism of George Smitherman cont...
  11. Well, should Canada get a seat on the council and if not why not - well maybe we are not anti Israeli enough for the U.N. But really. why would Ignatieff actually make a bizarre speech to the the U.N. saying that the Conservative government doesn’t deserve the Security Council spot? Well, maybe because if we don't get it, he could then rail at the gov't for not being good enough for the U.N. One has to wonder what if Iggy has any brains at all.
  12. That's my take too. I have to wonder if this little group of zealots would also deny women the right to contraceptives including the birth control pill. I've read on other sites extremist views such as banning the pill because it 'causes abortions'. Seems to me some of these people must have a real hate on for women.
  13. The attacks are coming allready as in, a group of old men fostering intolerance yadda yadda
  14. It's tough to discuss the issues because it usually ends up with name calling, anyone opposed to unfettered immigration is usually labelled a 'racist'. We have a right to determine who and what is best for Canada so we should be linking immigration to skills needed in Canada. We should also be cutting back on the family class or the family reunification program. An offshoot of this is Ruby Dhalla's bill which would reduce the wait time for senior immigrants to collect OAS. Aging parents are brought in by the children who don't want to be financially responsible for them, they expect us to support them. Official multi-cult is wrong, we should not be paying for people to be different, we should be helping them to become part of our society.
  15. Is entering Canada a right or simply a privilege, I would think any country would have the right to determine who they want to set foot on their soil. Once allowed in, then he does have the right to free speech unless he's promoting hatred or inciting a riot. There's a great piece here which says it a lot better than I can. http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Knock+Galloway+libel+court/3623576/story.html
  16. They call themselves the Center for Bioethical Reform or GAP, there's lots if you google it. It's offensive because of their likening abortion to the Holocaust, Rawandan genocide, the KKK etc. Women and their health are never mentioned, when one asks about the women they just shrug, they have no answer as women obviously are nothing, only incubators for a fetus. If a university is a public place then they do have the right to protest, although they were arrested for trespassing, same at the University of Calgary. The issue is free speech and the right to offend. IMO the universities are trying to reach a compromise to avoid violence but this group doesn't want compromise, they want the publicity and a chance at a lawsuit, (they have won some lawsuits so use the money to further their cause). I've read on other sites where these types of extremists would even ban the pill as they believe it to be an 'abortifactant' so we have a group of people here who are loony toons, right up there with Fred Phelps and his gang. Freedom of speech is a two edged sword and IMO the best way to deal with this is have a much larger counter protest, keeping it up until their display time is over. http://www.trentarthur.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1275%3Aanti-abortion-bigots-charged-justice-served-policing-increased-on-university-of-calgary-campus&Itemid=100002 http://www.prochoiceactionnetwork-canada.org/articles/gap.shtml After reading quite a bit about them, I wonder if they really could be charge with promoting hate against women ?
  17. This is a free speech issue, not a discussion on abortion. http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/oct/10100402.html GAP is an extremist anti abortion group using large posters comparing the Holocaust, KKK and Obama to abortion. Their posters are offensive and sickening, but Carlton U shut them down, or at least denied their application while offering a different area to put up their travelling circus. University of Calgary had problems to0, students have been arrested for 'trespassing'. I don't think the issue is their opposition to women's choices but their use of holocaust graphics etc. to make their point. I find them offensive and wonder if the same religious extremists here would offer the same freedom of speech to Galloway and the likes of Fred Phelps, or gay activism. Edited to correct spelling
  18. The fundraiser was after the contract, no problem there. There's nothing here, it's all about making hay out of nothing, because the opposition has nothing else to offer.
  19. You might want to check on the facts, Varin has not been a member of the party for over 10 years and is not an 'organizer' or anything else.
  20. Well, he was, he started out as a liberal and even went the United Church - the NDP of prayer.
  21. He's working with the ethics commissioners, so far nothing untoward. Much ado about nothing and not the first time someone has taken a leave of absence to work with the government. It's all in the eye of the opposition of the time. LOL
  22. And of course, we now know that the letter to Coulter was written at the behest of former Liberal MP Allan Rock.
  23. I'm not claiming anything, and I've actually never denied that there is climate change going on, but it's obvious that there is no consensus as to how or why. The earth has always cycled, it warmed up after ice ages before without the help of man. It's also obvious that if earth is warming it will be of benefit to many areas, the Inuit are happy campers. We aren't going back to live in caves, we can't live without oil or electricity etc. etc. We have to figure out how to live with change and accomodate. Man has always adapted, we will again, we hope.
  24. It does seem like a desperate grab. If the Dems. lose their majority I can Obama being a one term president.
