Typical Canadians - arguing over whether it is fair. Does it benefit all? Nope. And taxes are never applied fairly and equitably. You make it you pay it - period. So as per normal the potential to allow at least a portion of folks to get a tax break will be held up by all the ninnies who cry the sky is falling. That money goes back into the economy. You want a fair tax - go flat rate - works in Hong Kong. Oh, wait a minute I am sure someone will point out there are disadvantaged who will suffer. For whatever reason. Therefore the only truly fair tax IS NO TAX. Take it all home and spend it as you see fit. Put a consumer tax on everything. The more you buy the more you pay tax. I am sure there will be a reason to discourage this as well. Perhaps some other under-achiever - or over-achiever will find fault. In the end any tax system will piss off someone and make yet another happy. Having lived where there was no tax at all I can tell you this - taxes are business killers. And sooner or later taxes will cause even more to leave this country I fondly call Canuckleland. It happens on a daily basis. Borg

This is yet another reason we should let those people go their own way. Let them take their share of the debt - take the same amount of land they came into confederation with - allow them to form their own country and make them use their own currency. That way I can be sure to never support them with the hard earned Canadian dollar. Unfortunately they will not do this because they do not have the gonads - instead they will complain and continue to drag the rest of Canada down. Think how fast we could pay off the debt without their heavy load on our economy. I am so tired of the french and their bitching. If the Muslim countries and their state supported terrorists ceased to attack Israel this minute, there would peace - in almost the next minute. I doubt Isreal would arbitrarily attack any neighbour unless they had been attacked or threatened first. Yeah, there were pre-emptive strikes during the six day war - but intelligence indicated - correctly - that massed troops and equipment plus intercepted signals showed an imminent attack. So, let them fight and let them continue with no outside interference - it will be a blood bath that will simply have more false Canadians looking for assistance. In the end Israel will win - and the false Canadians can move back to their Muslim based homelands - for it will never fall again without massive world wide consequences. No matter how strong - weak or what ever - this bill is, there will be some who complain it was not tough enough. As long as no money leaves this country to buy carbon credits - none! The EI system is for anyone in Canada who meets the requirements, not just fishermen Farmers have gotten a lot more assistance from the govt. then the fishermen in recent years. Requirements are not the same - regionalized - therefore preferential. As before - back to the question - if they require internet - they will find a way. Borg

What are you talking about?? The CAP program is a national program with CAP centres all over Canada including quite a few in Alberta as well. To see the map of CAP centres clck this site: CAP Webpage and then click "Find a CAP site" Automatically, many of you assumed this was something privy to the East but like many other government programs this simply is not true. I believe that many of you would be surprised what the West gets from the government. Do fishermen still get UI when in the off season? I know farmers do not - yet they pay the same fees. Just curious. Lots of folks getting money as the employment is low - otherwise how do they live? Back to the original - if internet is important, they will find a way to get it - otherwise ........ A lot of these communities don't have the infrastructure or amount of people to make this worthwhile. many of the communities are indeed connected to each other by boat or small plane so maintenance would be a real costly affair. And the startup costs in these areas are much higher than urban areas, therefore for the enterprising young person to make any money, they would have to charge a fortune to their customers. Ah yes - perhaps there is some truth to this. So the circle goes round and round. In the end they will do something about it if there is a will. Government handouts to the east are numerous enough. I personally set up a system here at the house - fairly independent and sat capable for less than 6K - I could service the entire neighbourhood if I so desired. 50 subscribers at 20 bucks a month and the locals would pay for it fairly quickly - make it a co-op program if necessary. I am tired of the whining. Want it that badly? Then do something about it. Too many excuses and not enough action. Borg

Heavy lift is on its way. Rather strat lift. I assumed the question to be "in addition to". Unfortunately going to Trenton. Lots of additional expense to be able to handle them. DART used so seldom it would pay to rent Antonov a/c. Too big for the present hangars. The fire fighters need to upgrade their equipment big time. Ground handling equipment needs to see serious upgrade. The fuel bowsers need to be upgraded - C-17 burns about 20,000 pounds per hour. Excellent aircraft though. Perhaps about 50 or more modern C-130s? The military is well adapted to handling them. Some with ski capability? Some armed for ground attack? Excellent short field and rough strip ability. Decent SAR ability. Borg

Sounds to me like a business opportunity for an enterprising young person. Set up a local net and sell it to the community. It has been done before in small communities - much like the one I live in. No government money - just hard work and some selling. Borg
