  1. I hope it would be treated the same way as if the reverse were true. Discrimination against the majority is still discrimination What one hopes and what really happens are often at opposite ends of the spectrum. Time will tell. Borg
  2. I am a proponent of an arctic capable and well armed navy. Throw in some long range, arctic based, well armed patrol helicopters with anti sub capability. Then add mobile troops with artic capability. Long range transport heloes are a good idea but they had better be all weather capable. Open up a couple of fuly kitted northern military bases and provide them with all the kit required to do the job. Borg
  3. Great idea, French Foreign Legion style? Great - train the various muslims - now includes Somalians apparently and then they can go back to use this training against us? At least now they have to leave the country to do this. On the other hand, why not have mandatory military service - much like the Swiss? Borg
  4. If the reverse were true, no Koreans allowed the media would be howling. Bottom line - it appears there may only be racism if it is erpetrated by the occidentals. Otherwise it is simply an acceptable method of removing the unwanted. I would be curious to see the results of a human rights inquiry. I wonder if what is good for the goose is good for the gander? Borg
  5. Sure, lots of folks support him. But Ontario has a long memory - I doubt there wil be many civil servants vote for him. But then again ...... All he has to do is promise money and the doors may open. Borg
  6. Is resistance futile? Will I be assimilated? Very cute - I was carrying this nick name long before Start Trek ever invented them. In fact I believe I stated that in my very first post. I doubt you could come up with one that I have not already heard - but I am quite ready to listen.. Got something a little more original? Borg
  7. My opinion of farmers is high. The reason why the Wheat Board was set up in the first place was that the market was not getting farmers the best price for their grain. That's the historical reason. It is why a large majority of farmers support the Board. The Conservatives are basically making an idealogical decision to support a small minority of grain farmers with no evidence to show it will actually benefit farmers. The same sort of unbridled optimism leads Conservatives to battles where they have their asses handed to them. I'd settle for a little due diligence. Well, perhaps you are correct. Wheat growers in the prairies have been turning to other crops in order to mitigate their risk. Perhaps many of them are also doing so to avoid control by an agency that has a monopoly? On the other hand Ontario and Quebec farmers have been increasing their wheat production. It seems they are quite able to market their wheat without going through a single desk selling process. So it appears the average wheat grower in the prairies is probably not as capable of making marketing decisions and selling their product as those in the east - at least this is what one would glean from your comments. I suppose that stems from actually being able to think outside the protective box of the Board. Your 70 some percent of wheat growers approving the Board do not appear to believe they have marketing skills? As for the remainder of your comment - I am awaiting a clarification to the "asses handed to them". Better, I will ignore it as it appears off topic. Borg
  8. I do not care how people adapt. Respecting eachothers freedom is good enough for me. As a person born in Canada, I feel no need nor desire to be xenophobic towards people who are not born in Canada. That is a fine way to think. Unfortunately it is in itself a very parochial thought process. There are those who do not want to and will not ever adapt. Unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately - depending on your point of view - there are very many in this country who are willing to NOT respect YOUR freedoms. They are quite prepared to fight if push comes to shove to change what you call your freedom. Freedoms that you so lightly mention are only retained by those who will fight for them. Sooner or later you or your descendants may have to do so. Are you prepared to do this? Our forefathers were. Do not take those freedoms for granted as it sounds you are. Xenophobic? Hardly. Realistic? More likely. I would suspect you do not know as much as you might think you do. Borg
  9. No, it will not. Do you know anything about civil mediation in your province???? In criminal matters, everybody follows the same criminal law. Yes I do and it does not matter - it will come as it is and then slowly be expanded. It is becuse people will not believe - much like you that it will happen. Slowly - ever so slowly. A much improved Canada will exist. That must be so because it will be allowed. Borg
  10. Why go back to the place of birth? Those areas are already converted. Far better to come here. Sooner or later some liberal will allow Sharia and then the conversion can really begin. There are a lot of Daltons out there - proof is on these boards. It is not a matter of if - it is a matter of when. Is multi-culturalism not something that strengthens this country? Seems to me that the vast majority of Canadians believe it to be so. Certainly it is promoted in the media and by the government that multi-culturalism will be what saves this country. So Sharia will come and we will be a better country for it. It is pre-ordained. Thanks libs for making this country what it is today. Borg
  11. In response to the original comment. Well Libs - if the shoe fits - wear it. Rather than crying and moaning why not prove Harper wrong? If you can. Good on ya' Steve! Borg
  12. Higgly: Have you lived there? If so Id like to ask you how often french is used. If someone wanted to use it would most businesses/people be willing to do so? Im planning on moving to Ottawa in a few years for school in part because I want to be able to work on my french. What kind of business? The high tech business is mostly English, and almost all business would be conducted in English. Government is mixed. Retail is bilingual on the floor but I couldn't say for higher up. Sales are clearly bilingual, be they corporate, government or retail. The international language of high tech, agriculture, business, medicine, aviation, engineering, military and many others is English. Bombardier, CAE, Mechtronix - Montreal based - may work in the language of their choice - but they always deal with the client in English. Money is the key. To make money the language must be common - and English is the common denominator. As for parochial infighting - do not like the language being spoken? Move. Ban the language czar - he only works for 9 out of 10 provinces. The tenth has already has decided how it will be. Quebec appeasement - situation normal all f^%$ up. Borg
  13. Rue When the mullah tells the "moderates" to get busy and create some "action" in Canada - they will act. Religion is more important than moderatism - if that is indeed a word. No such thing as a moderate - if a mullah orders - the muslim obeys. Borg
  14. Coast to coast Rae days. Good news for Canucks. Borg
  15. Bring on Rae!!! Ontario loves him. ;-] Rae days for the entire country - yahoo! Borg
  16. Again, is it Israel's fault that the Hezzies hide among civilians? The term "war crime" is getting shop-worn. It's being used all the time to describe just about anything going on in a war that someone doesn't like. I just read about a US soldier in Iraq being accused of a "war crime" because he allegedly shot a British reporter. But it should teach Ignatieff to be more careful in his choice of words. True. War crimes are usually only committed by the loser. In the end as long as the enemy is lying on the ground dead there is no argument about the crime - if there was even one to begin with. Personally, when ever I hear a politician talking about war crimes I tune it out right away - just more spin. Especially from Canadian media and politicians. Weak and limp wristed as most of them are. Borg
  17. All wrong of course. There's no law to not wear a veil. Unless you'd like to make one. Hmm .... has not France started doing this. Recognizing - as usual far too late - that there is a serious problem in it's country? Maybe that is a good idea. I am sure at least one person will disagree. Borg
  18. If farmers in the west fare worse from the Canadian Wheat Board's demise, the Conservatives will have alienated supporters they've had for decades. And what if they do NOT fare worse? You have a low opinion of farmers it would appear. Prices will not fall if the Board is torn down. The world needs to eat. You are sounding like a pessimistic doomsayer. People like you - with this comment are what hold back the country. What if the this? What if that? Stop with the negative and think. Borg
  19. In this discussion it is important to distiguish between the Hijab and the viel. The Hijab is simple an ornament and does interfer with communication. A viel is a mask and does interfer with communication. For that reason I see no issue with a hijab but have a big problem with the viel. A bit patronizing perhaps. Come to a new society - take up thier ways. Do not like it? Leave. Tolerance will be the down fall of many western countries. Borg
  20. Personally I believe he will be good for Canada. Conservative majority anyone? Borg
  21. It would appear that you do not like this person. Far as I can see - someone somewhere won something. Politics. Little effect upon me. Borg
  22. He has the right to run. An amazing amount of Liberals support him. Shows what money will do I suppose. Also shows Liberals true colours. I would not be surprized if he is the new leader - and very soon. Borg
  23. Harper told the truth. The media and Iggy will try to spin it. It is their job. Finally and once again - Harper told the truth. I wonder if that will be reported? Borg
  24. All this silly discussion. The real issue is western producers are required by LAW to sell through the Board. The remainder of Canadians can with their wheat as they see fit. In fact they can sell it to a western farmer. Woe to a western farmer that even GIVES one bag of wheat to someone in Ontario. Simply not kosher. Too much power to an organization. That is the real issue. Borg
  25. I Like your first sentence. The remainder is a red herring statement. This is for violent sexual crime - not some simple street scuffle. No - repeat no judicial discretion. Hell half of the problems with this country and the legal system stems from judges. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Yeah I know - the same red herring comment could be made at me. But any judge who sentences a man to 24 months after he has already been convicted NINE TIMES previously for viloent sexual offenses against children - well - that seems to me to be a man/woman who perpetuates the problem. There are examples of sheer judicial stupidity on a daily basis in this country. Justice must not only be done - it must be seen to be done. Perhaps it is time to toss some judges? Yeah - we cannot - but they are a serious part of the problem. Good ones exist - but far too many poor ones sit on the bench as well. Also - someone on this board asked me if I am prepared to execute criminals. Answer - YES!! In fact if I sold lottery tickets at a buck a piece - the winner being allowed to throw the switch or to pull the triger or whatever - I would be a millionaire over night. A lot of people in this country support capital punishment - it will never be here again - but there are many who would support it in a heart beat. Become a criminal and completely surrender your rights as a citizen. You are now a prisoner - do the crime and do the time. Hard time is better. More violent the crime - the harder the time. With no - repeat no parole for the more serious and violent time. No concurrent sentences - consecutive only. No time reductions while waiting for your trial. Some have waited long and therefore are relaeased as they have experienced cruel and unusual punishment - tough - if found innocent you walk with compensation - not my discussion issue at present - if found guilty you go back to the cells. Finally - life should mean life - not 17 years or whatever. You get life - you die in jail. No old folks home with friendly sttaff for you. No grandkids to bounce on your knee. A steel cot and a square room. If you kick off before the national average - then so be it. Borg
