  1. I believe it was the Western Standard that interviewed the surviving founding members of the charter - that worthless piece of shit paper. In the article the founding writers admitted there were many changes they would have made in order to prevent it from being used in a method that they have not intended. It was an interesting read and is probably available via the Western Standard archives. An eye opener. Borg
  2. Look these folks would still be dragging their belongings around on two sticks attached to the back of a dog if we had not introduced them to the wheel. We pay for everything now, so why bitch about a few bullets and some twine? Relax - while there may be some historical truth to the above, I am not a believer. Pay them and be done. There is room in the Dept of Indian Affairs budget and besides, we all know the taxpayer loves the Indian. Borg
  3. Took the last one out of the house about 5 years ago - best thing I ever did. I knew it was working when my youngest came home from a visit with some friends. "How'd the visit go Hon?" "Boring Dad. All they wanted to do was watch some stupid television program." Toss it and read - you will be further ahead. Movies? Rent a DVD and play it on the computer screen. Borg
  4. Humiliation at U.S. Hands? Whatever ..... <Yawn> Borg
  5. Well, someone will. And I suspect it will happen soon. Either way there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. Lots of folks will die. And if he does not the some other country will do this. Many are afraid of what MIGHT happen. Actually I do not blame them even though I fully believe as a country, Iran has the right to self determination - the right to tell the world to frig off - and the right to suffer the consequences. No matter who hits Iran the public will scream blue murder - but quietly and behind the scenes I believe there will also be support for this action. Grab the popcorn and beer - grab a good seat - because when this goes down I believe it could get downright nasty. Borg
  6. Firefight: Both sides give and both sides receive - often lots and lots - not just a few rounds. Bottom line is kids died. Bottom line is they could have died from either side. Bottom line is these folks have used kids and such as shields before. Bottom line - playing semantics - well it is easy to do. Playing lawyer is easy to do. Go to the place of action and you will see all sorts of things that will amaze you. I can assure you I have never seen the Yanks deliberately target kids. And I have seen a lot of things in my day. However there will be those who will happily do their best to stir the pot and / or create a twisted path with words to cloud the truth. I have seen the opposition deliberately target non combatants - and I expect I will be called a liar for it - but I have seen it. And not a thing could be done about it. Title states: US Soldiers Kill Iraqi Children Makes it seem like they lined them up and shot them. Fact is that did not happen. If this is truly Baylee s/he once almost talked to me like I was a human being. If this truly is Baylee I am disappointed. We will never truly know but I can suspect. Author is a troll. Author is low. Author obviously cannot be trusted to speak the truth - but can be trusted to lie at the drop of a hat. Truth, duty, valour and honour are values that are worthwhile on the line and in business. Author would not last a day on the line - the boys would smoke him out as a liar, a cheat and a person not to be trusted. They would do the same in a place of business. Shameful indeed. Author may respond by twisting my words - but s/he knows what I am saying and s/he knows what I mean. Borg
  7. Quote - BAGHDAD – Two Iraqi children were killed and another was wounded in a firefight between American soldiers and gunmen in southern Baghdad on Friday, the U.S. military said. End quote If you read the whole article it is clear your title is not only misleading, it is dishonest. Makes me doubt your character and your (if any) honour. Another troll? Probably. Borg
  8. Well, first off - our folks seemed to be able to manage without the government - as did my wife and I - why not today? Second - I have no doubt there are some good folks out there - but most starting jobs at a daycare are low wage / minimum wage - you honestly think that some person is going to give your kid the same treatment that you will? Unlikely. I am sure you will find good ones - but not a bunch of long termers in this trade. I did not "breed" those kids - to use Riverwind's expression - and that means I am not responsible for them. Finally - I have to say on general principal - I do not want to pay to raise your kids or anyone elses kids. Period. I raised mine. My colleague raised his - and his wife was very sick. And our sisters all raised theirs. All with husbands who were not rich executive types - they drove used cars - had only one vehicle - lived WITHIN THEIR MEANS - avoiding debt. Their homes were not mansions, but they were solid middle class places and they carried mortgages. Once again - we lived within our means and did not have to have the finest in electronic systems and the finest cars and the finest ....... We were family oriented - not "things" oriented. Almost all were in retail or the trades - and they did just fine. My last one will be in university within the next two to three years. I will reiterate. If you cannot afford to have and raise kids - then do not expect me to do it for you. Our kids did not suffer from this. They managed to get good marks - managed to find someone at home when they were finished for the day. Actually ate meals at the table. Including breakfast. Actually have manners today and actually have pretty decent futures. Most will be graduating as professionals within the next 5-6 years. We paid for their educations without help from the government and the kids will not have student loans to pay off. Yeah, we actually SAVED for their education. What a novel concept.. Daycare? You want it fine - but do not ask me to pay for it. Pay for it yourself. It will be the ruination of the family unit - but that is what the re-engineering folks want. Hence the institutionalized daycare. Amazing how many people out there think the family is a piece of crap and not worth saving. Why have kids if you are simply going to warehouse them for 8-12 hours out of every day? I often wonder why people never ask this question. Univesity studies are often touting the family is no longer important - as long as the child can "socialize" at an early age - meaning of course in daycare. Horse pucky! I am in EST tonight and it is very very late - must be up in about 4 hours and away on the road for about a week or so - unless things get tough - then I might be back in a month. Time will tell - depends on the situation. Have a good one, Borg
  9. Of course you can assume. Perhaps men stay at home as well - I know I did. So lets not go down the sexist road please. Bottom line is government money for day care is not acceptable. Want kids? Great I support that - but it is not up to me to pay for their upbringing. Borg
  10. Narrow perspective? Horse pucky!! Do your duty as a parent and exercise those responsibilities. Government day care is simply an extension of institutionalized brain washing. Little Jonnie and little Suzie will come out with the approved thoughts of the day - government inspected and rubber stamped. Governments should govern and parents provide care in the house. If you cannot afford to keep your kids then you cannot afford to have them. Day care is now expected. As far as I am concerned this is fine - as long as I do not pay for it. I raised my kids and you raise yours - just keep my tax money out of the picture. Unfortunately as I stated earlier - I have to suck it up. Borg
  11. We have not been "breeding" them for years. We have been re-settling immigrants for years. Just the wrong kind of immigrant. Why import a doctor that is not allowed to practise? Bring in one that meets the standards. Why import the engineer that cannot be considered qualified - bring in one that meets the standard. Taxi drivers are a dime a dozen - we do not need more!! Why bring in immigrants that cost money - bring in those that can speak the language and can meet health requirements and can actually support themselves and the beat goes on. Yeah - call me a racist. Call me a hard liner. Call me what ever. I like to think I am simply being realistic. I do not believe in supporting those who cannot support their kids. I do not believe it is cost effective to train immigrants when there are folks right now that that are ready to go. I know two couples and their families - in the UK - trained and the whole bit - coming with money - but cannot get to the head of the line - probably another two to three years at best. I think they will end up in Australia instead. Throwing good money after bad is what we are doing. Borg
  12. Newbie - if the statement you made is in jest - fine. If it is made in serious thought mode - you are out of touch. You watch the slaughter begin when and if the soldiers leave. Examples of this exist throughout time. Life is cheap in the sand box - you have no idea how cheap - no one is safe unless well armed and at least one war lord likes you. Even that guarantees nothing but at least you have some help when Ali comes knocking to take your family for a "stroll". As for partitioning as per CB - it has merit unfotunately there are folks on the borders of Iraq that might not like that - it would make for an interesting scenario though. Borg Gee, how will we know what happens until the U.S. pulls out? The U.S. has been wrong on just about everything else in Iraq. Why take their opinion on what may happen if they withdraw?
  13. Children require a safe and nurturing environment? Agreed. Perhaps those who want children should pay for this - I sure as heck do not want to provide my tax dollars to allow someone else to have babies - shelve them for the first 6 years in some institution called daycare - then send them off to school to be little automatons - brain washed by some nanny state care centre. As far as I am concerned Harper did what he needed to do - unfortunately it appears it is in vogue for families to expect the various government agencies to provide for children - when in fact it is a parental responsibility. Take that 100 bucks and do as you see fit - or send it back to the government. There is no damn way any government should be raising children or helping people raise children through financial means. Want kids? Stay at home and look after them. Borg --------------------------------------------- I hope I'm misreading this statement, Geoffrey. Female managers and execs are the women that add value to our society? Are you suggesting that other women do not? Some women will choose to stay home with thier children, and others will choose to work. But the children should have a safe, secure, accessible, nurturing environment either way. Parents can and do pay for the care; this isn't the issue. But the care available should be of high quality. $100/month doesn't do anything to create spaces, and Harper's plan to create 25,000 spaces per year is just hot air at this point - he has no clue how to go about doing this.
  14. I have noticed over the past few years it is always the fault of the Yanks or the fault of the soldier or the fault of ...... I wonder when someone is going to say it is the frigging muslims killing their own people - creating terror and not giving a rats ass who dies as long as someone dies - all for the sake of the fact that one group has been removed from a position of power and another having been inserted. Oh, wait a minute - I suppose we could blame the Yanks for this. Or perhaps the Brits or perhaps the Poles or perhaps .... But then again the old party in power had a nasty habit of killing people simply to hold on to that power. Perhaps we should simply set back and tell them they have three weeks to do all the killing they can - and those left standing will be the ones negotiations will be held with. Wait a minute - I am sure someone will think this is a great idea and someone else will think it is schitzen. What the hell - let them off each other - what is a few extra dead in the middle of the road. Happened when saddam was there and it happens now. What has really changed? One thing for certain - the people doing the killing in big numbers are not soldiers and the people doing the killing do not give a damn about their own countrymen. The title is not only misleading, it is shameful. Life is cheap in the sand boxes of the world and power is often maintained by violence. They live very differently than we do - might is respected and weakness is pounced upon. Borg Borg
  15. You are the second person in the same number of days to say this. I caution you - I have far more detractors than supporters and I am ..... opinionated! ;-> Borg
  16. If you think long and hard on this statement you will perhaps look at things differently when I say the following: ANYONE can influence your life - a neighbour a friend or perhaps someone who commits a ranom act of violence. To point out Bush is to look at far too narrow a path. Borg
  17. Finally - a human response from a human being. I will do the unusual - embed my responses for you to ponder - apologies in advance for this - some people really find it annoying. Well second question first. No one. But I am sick of reading day after day right wingers accusing the courts of being dominated by LEFTIE judges and the LEFTIE justice system in Canada that allows criminals to walk free In fact this happens sometimes and does not happen others. Really, let's think on this. A woman in Calgary shoots her husband in the back 6 times and gets house arrest. A man steals a few thousand bucks from a small bank and gets 10 years. A young man of 22 steals a car and kills a friend while driving drunk and gets probation. There are inequities here. Surley even you would agree with that. Especially if the fact that the car thief has done this before. Be that as it may it is the right and the duty of the citizenry of this country to express their concerns - for if justice is to be done - it must bee seen to be done. Many people do not see that as happening. Enough on this for now - I am not looking for a response - but I do want you to realize that it is important to voice approval or displeasure at happenings in this country - it keeps those who would call themselves leaders - on their toes.[/i] I am sick of right wingers constantly saying this used to be a great country when the fact of the matter this country has almost always been governed by the Liberals and indeed this IS A GREAT COUNTRY,even though right wingers like to think otherwise Is it not appropriate for people to want things to be better? Why is their opinion so much less of value than yours? They may complain about this country, but they do not want to tear it down they want to make it better. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Yes, better in their eyes. And perhaps worse in yours - but this is a democracy (of sorts) and therefore they will be heard. I for one hold that very near and dear to my heart. As for the first question. I hold very dear my marriage and the fact that I live in a wonderful country like Canada. Long term marriage? If so you are the minority today it seems - be proud and happy and stay that way. And I have a fantastic mortgage free home in the country. Many do not and will strive for their entire lives to get there - some will fail dramatically through no fault of their own - once again be happy And I have lots of wonderful animals I bet I own a whole bunch more than you do - another time perhaps ;-> I can be happy no matter who the government is because no matter who is in power it affects my life not in the slightest because I have quite the secure life. It must be very secure, because there is nothing that cannot be taken from you by the feds - never forget that. A government should always live in fear of its people - NOT the other way around.[/i] But as I said,I get so sick of people constantly whinning and complaining when we here in Canada have it better than most people in the entire world. It is typical of Canadians - some of the nicest people I know are Canuckleheads - yet they do love to either tell you how superior they are - or complain about how bad something is. I think it is something in the water.[/i] So maybe this soldier was given a fair trial. Perhaps - perhaps not.[/i] But so does everyone in Canada Really? Did we not just release someone - yet again from 12 years of prison - I wonder if he thinks the trial was a fair one. Remember, for justice to be done ...... Not all judges and lawyers and police are good - not attempting to sound like you, or attempting to paint with a broad brush - but remember it is the people who will keep the elites of our society in line - otherwise we become nothing. The older I get the less I trust - I have found my gut feelings to be more and more accurate as I age. Have a good one. Borg
  18. If you are talking to me - then please address me. Would you kindly point out how I have "echoed" others - and how you know what I think of someone from the country of Iraq? We already know my opinion of you - but then again I am among the many in that regard. How do you know what side of centre my political beliefs actually lie. You assume far too much and certainly do not deserve the respect you deem required. I asked you this once before and you did not answer - in fact you dodged it rather poorly - so I will ask again: Is there anything out there that you hold near and dear? Or is everything conservative, right wing and military - evil. Surely there has been some good come from folks who serve their country. Surely there has been some good come from a conservative person, surely there has been some THING in your life that is worth talking up and being proud of. Is there a soldier or a politician or a judge or a police officer in this country that deserves a little respect from you - or are they ALL evil as you tend to portray them? Who made you the judge and jury? I have yet to decide if you are unstable, too smart for your own good, or simply need someone to pity you - but you are indeed a person who would scare me if you lived next door. Perhaps you are simply a poster playing around - if so - bad joke. For now you get my pity - it must be lonely being so right and yet so alone in your opinions. Borg
  19. I would say that I did not read your piece, but I agree there will be a hit. There will be great wailing and gnashing of teeth and threats by countries from all over the globe. Some - perhaps many of those who will be condemning publicly - will be privately very supportive. Borg Don't know if you read my little opinion piece I just posted, but I genuinely believe there will be a pre-emptive air strike carried out by Israel once Netanyahu gets into power. And they will receive the "secretive" support from the Saudis. They have too much to lose if Iran goes nuclear.
  20. Jumpin' Judas Priest Bald Headed !!!! - catchme and I actually agree on something. I need to go and re-examine my life - immediately. I must have made a wrong turn somewhere and not realized it. Borg
  21. Most hated? Hmm ... I wonder if it bothers them. You are simply the mouse that roars. Borg
  22. Actually 7 of 9 is far better looking than this old guy. ;-> Borg (which is simply a portion of my name)
  23. No argument from me on your points. However - who is going to stop them? Americans? The boards would howl in protest. Isreal? The boards would howl in protest. United Nations? Not a chance. They are a nation unto themselves - just as we are. They have a right to self determination. And of course we have a right to bomb the hell out of them when they step over the line. My question is - Will they? Time will tell. Pre-emptive strike? Smart but politically it would be like cutting off your head to save your life. Borg
  24. I see you have yet to answer the question - yet again proving my point. Waiting for you to show us / tell us how it will all come down. Borg Do you know what a red herring means? How on Earth can it be a red herring to pursue the initial questions I set out at the start of the thread?
  25. Leafless - you had better get out the gun and start pointing it at a whole bunch of countries. Countries receiving international aide and developing vast militaries, nuke programs, space programs and such - hmmm ...... China, India and Pakistan come immediately to mind. Economy in tatters? Well the three above have enough of an economy that they could supply aide to Canada rather than receive it. Yet they all have people dying of hunger and disease, living in shacks and no fresh water. As for Iran - it is their business and no one elses. You admit they have vast oil reserves. They will develop those reserves in their own good time. What a country does - whether you or I like it - is that country's business. When that country does more than - repeat more than - threaten neighbours - well, then it is time for the world community to act. Canada has the ability to go nuke - but has not exercised that ability. If it did - would it be pressured into stopping that production?I wonder. Another time and another topic I suppose. Borg Developing a nuclear bomb is a moral thing to do ahead of a tattered economy? There is nothing moral about what Iran is doing or considering it a legal right is a matter of opinion. They are presenting an invitation to catrostrophic conditions upon themselves.
