Get a new girl. Join up, you will love it. Most Canadians would if they had the first clue about what the military is, what we do, and so on. Fact is they have no idea about us, don't want to know. Scared of the unknown.... Weaponeer - Hear! Hear! Puck - If you are unable to make a decision now because of your girl and her family, I would suggest you do not marry her - you will never be your own man - and you sure will not be a "Team" with your wife. Military is something everyone should do. Exciting, eye opening, challenging both personally and professionally and certainly you will find the folks there will challenge you physically AND mentally. Anyone says "you are too smart" has no idea about the type of folks who serve. Dare you to stand up - bark like a real dog - and at least have a real close look at it. More to the military than war my friend - much, much more. I am back to lurking on this one. Regards, Borg

Would Canada be pulled into a war with Iran?
Borg replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We know who is telling the truth and its not Iran....Britain has released the data proving they were in Iraqi waters. Now you have gone and done it. You know very well you are going to get an argument from a whole bunch of people. We all know the Brits are liars and the Iranians are right up there with truth and democratic justice. Borg -

Ethanol - good for the grain guys - ie:corn. Lousy for the folks raising livestock - cattle, hogs, chickens. Feed price goes up in order to get the corn before it goes to be processed. The by product of processing produces some feed - but it als now needs to be transported and the cost goes up again. If a person wants to make money perhaps they should open a feed lot, hog barns or poultry production operations near the ethanol plant. Borg

Hmm .... shield it nicely in a largeh heavy metal and lead box. Put it in a container and load it on a ship. Send it to New York, Boston, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam and a few other places - and then set them off. If Iran had the bomb - then I would truly, truly be concerned. I do believe they are quite capable of this scenario - as are several other middle east arab countries. However there will be those here who will tell me Iran is a peace loving, democratic and modern country that is simply is in a tough place because of Bush and Blair and their Jewish favoured political policies. Those who would say that need to go and live there for a little while - then they might change their thoughts on this. Life in the middle east is not sacrosanct and it is not valued as in western society - this one simple value will be used against us many times. And sooner or later the above scenario will be played out. Borg

Facts have never matter when it comes to indians. As you say dna is the ticket to wealth. Pay? I know your list is short - their "no pay list" is huge. All you have to do is look at 100 Mile House and the noble red man who dreamed the place was holy - put a rancher out of business. The rancher stated he dreamed all the indians were dead - and unfortunately when he woke up they were still there. Cold Lake has paid for the land that was "sold" to the whites at least three times - I think the last time it was 50 million or thereabouts. Numerous tales of this in western Canada - so many that folks are well and truly tired of it. All an indian has to do is tell a story - or lie about a hunt in 1307 - and it is now indian land. The middle east has terrorists - we have the indian. Everyone off the reservation please - go find a job. No more indian affairs - we will save billions of dollars. And puhleeeze - no more apologies for the things that happened before I was born - I had no control over those event. Posit is a noble red man. Get off your butt and get a job and start paying for your share please. I suspect your 6 figure salary you mentioned was a lie. If it is true - then it is from running cigarettes. Borg -
Well , the way I see it - let's go back a few years. Annie made the Commish an Assistant Deputy Minister if memory serves me correctly. Prior to this there was a separation of police and state. In order to clear up this mess I believe it important to make the Commish independant again - preventing political interference and influence. When someone gets into the pen with pigs he is bound to get dirty. The Commish position has become far too political. I have a problem with the fox investigating the hens - perhaps there should be a little less buddy buddy in the head shed. No matter how this investigation takes place the potential for political interference is too great. Borg

Sounds racist to me. All for something that happened a couple hundred years ago. I wonder if my family can go back to the potato famine and make a claim? Only the noble red man and only in Canada. Racist? The policy, Posit or Posit's thoughts? Seems he refuses to answer questions - even if politely asked. Providing an answer at the same time. Hmm ... Going to buy out the houses? One year and I am sure those free houses and building will not be worth even a small percentage of today's value. Give someone something for nothing and it is never appreciated - make them work for it and it holds value. I wonder how long they will look as good as they do now? :-> Borg -
Why not? We are prepared to sell off everything else. Borg

All boarding parties are armed with side arms - your comment about the U.S. shows you do not understand ROE and/or are quite incapable of accepting the fact that the US Navy is a very professional operation. I would have bet my career you are wrong. In fact many times I did bet my career. ROE is self defence only - you do not fire unless fired upon. Helicopter is well armed and could have accomplished some serious damage - guarantee you they wanted to. Borg

If they were really in Iraqi water as Britain claims, don't you think the Brits would have fired on them when approached? The whole thing stinks like a provocation. Definitely not - to have opened fire would have violated the international Rules of Engagement and only worsened the matter. You do NOT fire upon someone or something just because this is taking place. ROE is paramount. It is legal to stop and search a vessel if under a UN / NATO or established miitary operation when that ship enters the "search" zone - no matter what the flag. It is illegal to fire upon a vessel without clearance to do so unless in a free fire zone or in self defence. I noted the Iranians did not use weaponry - therefore the Brits were forced into the same mode of operation. Ifthey had opened fire on the Brits it could have and might well have been a different story as self defence could have been claimed. I am sure there is film of this available to the Brits - someday we may even get to see the truly applicable stuff - but only if we are lucky - it will be close hold info. If a foreign ship enters territorial waters that is it "not supposed to be in" that vessel is to leave via the most expeditious routing. Usually a straight line to the border. Avoiding any obstacles and dangers of course. It is quite legal for a tresspassing (intentional or not) vessel to ask for permission after the fact. This is a common occurence. It is also usually granted immediately and may / may not come with a warning to not come back. If the vessel is boarded by the home team, it is quite appropriate if the decision is made - and this is rare - to escort that vessel to the nearest port and hold it in isolation - but it is not appropriate to withold legal or political contact with that vessel's home country. I can apply this to aircraft as well - not only along the Korean border and the once upon a time east vs west of the "old Europe - but in fact also along the Canadian and U.S arctic borders and airspace. Armed Soviet aircraft would often purposely enter north American airspace and be escorted out by U.S. and Canadian aircraft. They were NOT shot down - it would have violated ROE. It is strict and it is well known by all sides. I can assure you that the Iranians know the ROE as well as the Brits - and probably used portions of it to their advantage - knowing full well no one would open fire on them if they violated certain sections of this established ROE. If it had been a US ship or a Canuck ship or one of the European ships this would have still happened in exactly the same manner. Certain countries do not follow - unless to their advantage - international protocol and established ROE - hence the shooting down of some aircraft by the Soviets. Powers excluded please. Different circumstance and accepted by both sides. It is not considered an act of war to stop and search a vessel at any time if it is in waters that are considered under the operation and control of United Nations or NATO patrols or for that matter under war time operations by the vessel in control of that particular "space and time". All civilian operators are aware of this and to the best of my knowledge - unless carrying out illegal operations - comply fully with the orders of the patrolling vessel. Knowing what I do about international operations I will once again state that borders and various lines of "shall not cross" are scrupulously regarded and meticulously avoided. This is done to ensure international incidents like this do not take place. I see as well that the prisoners are now - for publicity - speaking their pre-rehearsed lines that are provided for them by their "hosts". I am sorry I do not remember the lady's name. I also suspect there will be more statements by other crew members. If she is released, she will not likely be allowed to speak publicly on what happened until the entire episode is over with. No matter now - 24 hours has more than passed and they can speak as they are told - the negotiations and the politics and the "war rooms" have been established including direct lines of comms with the main players in each country. This could still go south in a bad way - there is some very serious concern - for obvious reasons. Must run - my ride has arrived for the airport. Borg

Ain't that sweet. Canada is a land that seldom stands for anything but will bend over for almost everything. Multiculturalism will sooner or later be the downfall of this country. France and the UK are in trouble and they are now trying to solve the problem - too late - barn door has been left open for too long. Borg

People love to call me that word - until they meet my wife - who is not white. I did not buy her, but her family was a bit upset that she went against an arranged marriage - we think they are over it now - as I have been married to her for nearly 30 years and our kids are nearly all grown and gone. I just call a spade a spade. If you do not like the truth then it is you with the problem. It is always the hard done by noble red man and the evil white guy. You prove my point. After all you have to be white before you can be racist, a crook or a cheat. And you have proved it. I have to travel for a bit - back in a week or so - I might even condescend to read your response. Poor Posit - you actually hover over this topic don't you - waiting to strike. Actually if you had not mentioned it I would never have known - I just wanted to see who was squealing like a pig over the evil white guy and the noble red man. Ta ta Borg -
And you people are just revelling in it aren't you? WAR WAR WAR! Kill em ALL! Nuke the SOBs! No -- Let ISRAEL do it!! (*wink wink nudge nuge -- who'd yah think us warmongers meant!?) It is currently NOT known by ANYONE on this board whether or not the British were in Iranian waters. Iran is currently under threat by the very same countries who said they were part of "the axis of evil". Iran has EVERY RIGHT to be suspicious of a British military vessel sniffing around. Friggin warmongers want a world war. They FRIGGIN' WANT it. Interesting response. It almost sounds like you think it is folks over here who want it. What makes you believe the other side does not want it? I have worked with the U.S. and Brit navies upon the odd time. They are scrupulous in their care when they "walk the line". I have also flown the line in a couple of countries with borders that were sensitive. We were scrupulous. Even the other side was the same. But interestingly enough - and this will get me scalded - both sides had white skin and blue eyes. The commie pilots were playful but never willing to cross over - and neither were we. Accidental incursions did happen (both sides) and when it did happen, whoever make that incursion got out of there like the house was on fire. No one wanted to really get down and dirty - too costly. My guy tells me that the Brits were walking the line as they knew it to be. No proof - just experience at this stage. Most folks do not know that the JAG is a big player in the U.S. Navy. He sits in on ops plans for a reason. I suspect the same for the Brits. I seriously doubt the Brits would have intentionally violated an international treaty / border line. Especially if Iranian gunboats were nearby - and the Brits would have seen them - either on radar or visually. This is why I believe the Brits were not in violation - it was a dash and grab by the Iranians - otherwise those gunboats could have been / might have been / would have been fired upon. On the other hand I do know that there are political players on the other side who would gladly start something big. These guys (all military players both sides) are simply an extension of the politicians who tell them what to do - and I can assure you that no military man or woman wants war. But if it is war they will do their damndest to win. And I can tell you it will not be pretty and it will spread to other countries. Perhaps, no likely, even here. One thing for sure - life is cheap to those folk - and not so to us. Hence the dance which is about to take place. There may well be a blockade coming - but if it does, those prisoners will be rough used. More than 24 hours has passed so we may very well start to see statements read to the public by the prisoners - they will of course have been pre-written. But the prisoners have passed that 24 hour mark and are now free to co-operate as they see fit to protect themselves and no one will think worse of them for it. Questions Drea - if Iran starts something big - for whatever reason - are you going to blame Bush and Blair - or would you perhaps think that Iran had as great a responsibility to protect world peace? More for you Drea - Does Iran have even a small bit of blame in this Drea? Could they not have done as other countries such as Canada has done and told them to leave? Or perhaps complained to NATO / the UN? Somehow I think you will find a way to blame Bush and Blair - even if B&B step back and do nothing and the prisoners are executed - which by the way is not likely to happen for at least a month - if at all. It is a two way street and even the country that has "been violated has international rules of engagement to follow". Iran did not do this. Are they innocent Drea - or do they have at least a small part of this blame? I look forward to your responses - they might be quite telling. In the meantime - If things go badly there will be action - if things go well there will be no action. Just have to wait and see. Take a valium Drea - it is out of your hands. Borg

Well, I am sure you can find a better scape goat than the police. Perhaps you can find a way to blame Bush and Blair for this? Of course every time something like this happens it is because the white guy is an asshole who has managed to piss off the locals. I wonder, has the native ever been in the wrong - seems not so. Of course not - the native side of the program is ALWAYS in the right. All this does is make a bunch of folks who would be willing to listen - turn a deaf ear to the law breakers. And indeed they are just that. Ta ta Posit Borg -
Canada will have another left leaning government. Taxes will be higher. Fuel costs will be higher. Utility costs will be higher. Governments will still throw money at health care and not solve the problem. Governments will still throw money at education and people will complain about crowded classrooms. Roads will still be falling apart. Toronto will be three times as large. Coal fired power plants will still be using coal. Food will cost more. In other words I believe there will simply be more of the same and in the end Canada may / may not have worked it's way out of mediocrity. Borg

No he didn't. Hmmm ... I watched an interview in my hotel room in London - and I am sure it was the Captain they were interviewing - and yes he did say that. The truth of which I do not know - but I actually did see and hear it stated. Interesting to watch this develop - T&P's for them and the families. Borg

Wallow? Self pity? That is so funny. I have not once written about self pity - simply because there is non. I hate them all equally. Even you, you simpering weakling. Canada is divided and Canada is weak because people such as yourself are afraid to stand up and bark. Try getting a job and try paying some taxes - get off the federal government tit - then and only then will you truly be a member of this left leaning - "no body is guilty anymore" society. Point and counter point. You and your type are such a waste. Ta ta, Borg -

I only own a couple of horses and not one is over 16 hands. I also do not use force to get my way - otherwise I go to jail. Indian management is extremely poor and often very crooked - multiple cases in western Canada. I suspect the same in your part of Ontario. I am sure those on the tyendinega reservation are doing well. I wonder how much tax they pay from their businesses - after all my "gifts" of tax dollars probably opened most of their businesses. Oh well - they will complain and crowd and demonstrate for more - even though most of us work our tails off to provide money for the gifts that keep things going. Glad you brought this to our attention - it will provide some light hearted diversion from the rains of spring. Borg -

Honourably - that is such a joke. Perhaps the so called honourable elders should take a little responsibility for what has happened. Oops - that means they mighthave to look in the mirror as well. Why am I not surprized at this? Yet another grab by some folks who would take for free. I am not responsible for what my ancestors did - and I am tired of being told I am. Kill the reservation system and kill indian affairs and certainly kill the native welfare system - let those folks shift for themselves as the rest of us do. In the end we would ALL be far better off. Ok folks - bring on the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune - but remember - these criminals will likely go on forever and no one will ever be charged. Imagine if one of you did this. The story would be quite different. Borg
