  1. In the short term, military investment is a very smart way to go. It would provide emplyment both inside and outside of the defense infrastructure.
  2. Or perhaps making and enforcing laws protect the public from both internal and external acts of aggression.
  3. Political causes are always "justified". That is the root cause of the problem.
  4. WE need more police walking a beat. That is the answer to the problem. More cops, period.
  5. No family would spend more money and go into deeper debt with reduced incomes, they would be insane. So why does the government do it?
  6. All this is very nice, but the real consideration is the fact that spending is off the scale and debt is piling up. The issue of where the money goes seems to be of popular concern, the fact that it is going somewhere at all doesn't seem to be. All of this spending is going into private interests, with the hope that jobs are being created. It is a false hope. The truth is that the private sector is being "given" tax dollars. For me, that isn't something that is good. It is bad. We are getting things ass backward here. Private interests should be interested in anything but government funding. The entire stimulus effort is a net transfer of public wealty into private hands.
  7. Interesting that he would choose politics. I wonder if he has an agenda?
  8. I get 6 weeks annual vacation and have 21 personal days. In addition I get 12 stats a year.
  9. Only a fool would seek the destruction of an entire group of people for the actions of a few individuals outside of their own government.
  10. Harper is gaining support because of a personality makeover. It has nothing to do with policies or economics, he is just looking better and that is what the public wants, a less stuck up more or a sit and have a beer with kinda guy! If the Liberals want to take him on they will have to address the man not the party.
  11. Its just about crunch time people. We all watched the fall of communism, and we are now watching the fall of capitalism. Those two models haven't exactly worked as well as folks thought they would , but the question is what will be next. I will suggest that a hybrid of both would be the next logical step. We are half way there now, yet I think that this too will prove to be a failure. It is my belief that we need to separate the economy from politics the same way we separated religion from politics. We need to realize that the two don't mix well.
  12. I find it amusing that some people will blame a partisan faction for the state of affairs of our national defense infrastructure. The truth is that we are all responsible for the reality. The government of the day merely mirrors public opinion in its legislative efforts, to do otherwise would be an affront to the public.
  13. Harper is slick, he is betting that the folks at the bottom of the pile don't pay attention, and they really don't. A vast chunk of the apathetic vote is from the bottom third of the income scale. The folks at the top make the most noise but we all know how that works!
  14. I don't think there is anything new there. The Generals are always unhappy with the way politicians want to fight wars.
  15. We do in fact need a new world order. Of that there is no doubt. The problem is that we need a democratic model to do it. Not under the thumbs of politicians and corporations, but instead the citizens of the world.
  16. Canada needs to grow up. Canadians need to grow up. This world is becoming far too serious for children to play at politics, lives are being lost.
  17. Nonsense there is no such thing as a toss away human being.
  18. Why not just reform the banking laws? Eliminate fractional reserve banking and have the Bank of Canada provide funding to banks in Canada at interest.
  19. The debt and deficit issue is one that concern all citizens. Harper saying that rising revenues will cover expenditures is a very misleading statement as it does not address the immediate issue of deficit and fails to deal with the even more pressing issue of debt.
  20. Thats too bad! Oh well since they are independent nations I guess they can pay their own way for all they use.
  21. Iggy has a time frame problem here. He needs to make Harper look bad before the writ is dropped. Right now the Conservatives appear to have the upper hand in all of this.
  22. W started that war because Sodamned Insane tried to whack his daddy, George H. Bush after the first round. It was vengence, pure and simple.
  23. The thing to keep in mind here folks is that the military goes where it is told to go and does what it is told to do and the government of Canada is the one doing the telling. The military folks put their lives on the line in the service of their country, for you and I. With that in mind I think we should spend as much as possible to protect those folks in their efforts. They are more than worth their weight in gold, because they are willing to give their lives to protect us.
  24. I agree completely. The trick here is to make Harper look bad. Iggy already jumped on his personality and style of government, the next step is beating him up on his competence. There is a lot of work to get done before an election is called. Think of how much money the Conservatives just blew in useless ads for nothing. Think of the government money he wasted in the same effort. Iggy is setting the table and inviting Harper to sit down for lunch.
