  1. Just a second folks....there is no us and them. There is in fact a "we" aspect that needs to be taken into consideration. I can say this without doubt, that we were all immigrants at one time even the natives. So what we are talking about is no less than society morphing once again under the general guise of social engineering. Call it protectionism or nationalism or anything you want, but the reality is that Canada is for Canadians, and they are defined as those of us that are here now. Not to be confused with those that will come from somewhere else later. So only a fool would suggest that we cannot control the now to determine the future, that would be like giving up democracy outright. We have the right to self determination.
  2. We are on the same bus then. The real problem here is bureaucracy. To even to begin to address that little issue we need some serious democratic reforms. You can't just go around whacking these programs and services, or even the departments that provide them without some serious thinking. They are the place your politicians appoint their buddies, this comes under the category of cronyism 101, patronage is how you gain supporters to do all the dirty work for you. Its the payoff for the unelected, they become the appointed.
  3. Only a fool would believe those cooked up numbers and stats. The reality is that drugs and prostitution have been around forever, and there is simply no way to stop it or prevent it. As it stands it is out of control and as such provides the means of the illegal activities that cause harm to many citizens through the direct or indirect impact of those activities. The thing to do is bring it into control, regulate and license the activities to reduce the adverse impact to the public. That is supposed to be one of the functions of government to legislate protective measures for society. So we have an ages old problem that the government refuses to address and the public does diddly squat about it. It is a shame.
  4. It isn't a problem at all. As if you could find one single politician that hasn't changed their views, or any other citizen for that matter. The war on terror is a joke. It can never be fought let alone won. Think about the KKK or the IRA, were they ever targeted?
  5. Actually I think we should restrict immigration, not prevent it. Tradesman and professionals should be able to get in, and they should be able to bring their "immediate"families.
  6. It is an astute path to take. They need to add prostitution to the list of things to legalize, then sex crimes can be handled in a more fearsome manner.
  7. I feel for you folks, but since I live in Alberta this kind of thing doesn't affect me and is 100% provincial.
  8. Reality hits home. We need immigration after all. Gee whiz, whoda thunk!
  9. Legalize it and sell it in government stores. Watch you deficit problems go away. Tax the production and watch you debt problems go away. Think for just a minute about this people. Dedicated taxation, directed toward deficit and debt.
  10. The so-called stimulus package was and is a joke. Its a bad joke at that. The reasons for the problems within the plan are very simple. Bureaucracy. You can blame all of the problems on anything you like, but the reason for the delay falls right there. In order to do this quickly they would have had to use a crown corporation with a development project that had already had approval at all levels. There is simply no other way it could have been done quicker.
  11. Iggy is right about this people. You want proof? Look at how the "War on Terror" is going. To date it has already lasted longer than the second world war and is nowhere near being resolved.
  12. Harper isn't in the same class as Trudeau by any stretch. Steve isn't going to win over anyone who isn't already a right wing fanatic. Anyone who believes otherwise is deluding themselves.
  13. BC bud fuels the munchies, not terrorism. Its simply foolish to believe otherwise.
  14. To "snub" Iran is a waste of time. Sort of like ignoring Adolf Hitler in the late 30's. I am sure that the bleeding hearts club approves of the gestures used against these lunatic nations such as Iran and North Korea, I believe it is foolish.
  15. Hey BC that isn't a real good example. Romeo beg for help from US forces in country only to have them hook an haul, turn tail and run. Thanks Bill Clinton and the mighty USA for allow the massacre that followed.
  16. Perhaps more accurately, most crimes are committed by the poor. Raise the living standards and reduce crime.
  17. As in so far so good.........
  18. The US did what it did for their own reasons. The point is that America makes its own rules, and they do live with the consequences.
  19. Hey Argus you will get no argument from me about defending our borders. You realize of course that this effort is daunting to say the least.
  20. Security is a relative thing. We never were and never will be perfectly safe. No such place exists on this planet.
  21. We certainly can and will get through these trying times. The issue at hand is in how we get from here to there. The loss of some civil rights may not seem like a very high price to pay for some, but then they are not the ones losing them.
  22. THAT IS THE SAD REALITY ISN'T IT!
  23. Do you really think for a mere second that these resolutions are not hand crafted to have use sometime in the future, in another situation? Get a grip, this is international politics, not backwater municipal posturing. This a the biggest ballgame on the planet! The UN is stuffed with appointed representatives to act according to the whims of the governments of the day. They are political operatives cognizant of not mere diplomatic tactics, but instead skilled professionals who can sweet talk a gang banger out of their own knife. The UN is a big boys game of the highest order. You are delusional to think otherwise.
  24. A seat on the security counsel is a political feather in anyones cap. The issue is whether or not we deserve that feather.
  25. The only real problem we have is conquering our own fears. Our political leadership should be above such things, but they are not. They use our fears against us. Let us not take counsel of our fears and instead consult our hearts and minds. We should base our politics on hope and prosperity.
