Just one more dead soldier
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Interesting view. I would add that apathy is a democratic disease that is highly communicable. That apathy is taking root in this nation due to the lack of visionary leadership. -
I better put a mark on the wall because you and I so seldom agree!

I make no claim to being an expert; You can call it what you want. The weather changes, always has and always will. The term climate is indeed a little more specific and complicated, but when you get to the number crunching the all the science in the world still can't make an accurate projection of weather more than a few days in advance, let alone what will happen in the decades to come. By the way, since you are such an expert yourself, please provide us with the details to your professional experience and while you are at it let us know what degrees you have attained from which university relevant to the subject of climate change.

All those damned cable and tv tax commercials

Just another of those things people suggest the government do....how much will this one cost? -
Liberals and New Democrats together could unseat Harper

Good point, but I wonder if Iggy can figure it out. -
You are absolutely right Argus.

Bullshit! My point was that we need to convert from a legal system to a justice system, and you have just shown why that change is needed. You are attempting to debate the cause or intent of a crime. That is what the current system does, and we can see how well that is working. I suggest we make an arbitrary change to avoid the possibility of error in trial and sentencing. The possession of a weapon in the attempt of or actual commission a felony should constitute a willfull declaration of violent intent. Period!

Coalition politics could very well be where we are going. -
Weather is what we are really talking about here folks. There have been numerous cycles of ice ages and warming periods in the history of this planet. You can all it climate or just weather, but you need to keep in mind that it changes from day to day and season to season. All of this talk of global warming or climate change is rather fancy talk for weather, nothing more and nothing less. It doesn't have to be anyones fault unless you are talking about money. I will suggest that folks consider that, because from what I understand there is a lot of money at stake here and loads of tax dollars to be extracted from citizens as a wealth transfer from public to private interests. I live in norther Alberta and the mere thought of never seeing minus forty degree winter temperatures has me hoping its true!

Any weapon, pick one two or ten, it should not matter. The reason I came up with this statement was to provide a simple point, which is weapons constitute a violent offense. I suggest that it should become a starting point for dealing with violent crime. The first change in a series of changes designed to convert from a legal system to a justice system.

The key to crime reduction can be found in the reformation of our legal system into a justice system. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, ever heard that one. Its true. Punish the person for the crime. That is all we have to do. The use of a weapon in the commission of a crime should carry an automatic minimum 10 year sentence. The use of a restricted weapon should have a double minimum automatic sentence.

What a shocking realization! Hard to believe that a society founded more than a century ago suffers from some form of urban infrastructure issues. I really hate to burst some bubbles out there, but the current city planning trends are out to lunch. Very nearly every city has a different slant and spin on what it is that they need/want/desire the various levels of government to do for them. The cold hard truth is that these cities are falling apart piece by piece. They were designed originally around the transportation systems available, rivers and lakes. The tried to adapt to railroads and then to automobiles. It is a sad case of forced and failed adaptation. The most cost effective solution is one in which entirely NEW cities are designed and built according to functional designs with built in growth and development plans. Forget the old, let them fend for themselves.

How much is a flu shot in the USA?

I wonder what folks make of these wild market swings? Hard to believe there is any kind of recovery going on with such instability in the markets.

While he holds a minority that is not exactly altogether his choice to make. Even so the numbers don't really favour the opposition pulling the plug.

There is deep trouble for Iggy in those numbers.

Thank you for making my point! This issue and many others need to be played out in public debate. That is why I am not very fond of the system as it stands. The government has too much power and authority in its control. This is not how a democracy functions best. It is my hope that folks will learn this lesson and begin to call for open debates and free votes. We need a level of honesty and integrity thrown into the mix for good measure. Perhaps this is all for the best because this kind of crap will rise up to bite the politicians in the ass.

I think we are barking up the wrong tree. There are dozens upon dozens of programs and services supplied to the people by the government. Before go off half cocked and start with the knives, doesn't anyone think that ALL programs and services needed to be examined. We need a freaking action plan to DEFINE and CONTROL spending before we cut a single penny or a single program. I would like to see a government commit to dealing with the issue once and for all. Just once, donate an entire session of parliament to cleaning up our act. Day to day problems must also be addressed, but the focus should be on dealing with the problems already before us and solving them as a priority! There is ALWAYS something the government needs to do, but the most important function they have is to act as good stewards for the nation and that means solving the problems. The debt and deficit are not the biggest gorilla at the table folks, SPENDING is.

I simply don't believe what I am seeing here. Don't you folks think the concept should be debated FIRST! If it survives a debate, I would think the next step would be to cost it out and determine the viability of the concept. That is how the system SHOULD work. We have the cart before the horse wondering how much it will cost before we decide whether or not we are willing to embark on that path.
