Tory senator linked to key players in Quebec scandal

Problems for the Canadian Crown
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They are not relevant in terms of how this nation determines to govern itself. They are very relevant however in terms of their interactions with our government. The Crown is a state of fact for this nation, we have a Queen as our head of state. That head of state plays no role in our politics or government however. So in a true sense, the Crown has no relevance to Canadians since it can neither propose nor impede any legislative effort. The agent of the Crown in Canada, The Govenor General has limited power and authority over the government of the day. -
Problems for the Canadian Crown
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Smallc's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nonsense! We already know what problems we have and face, that means that we can fix them. I would suggest that the right way to do it is through Provincial Constitutions first. Clean up those as and when the people of the provinces see fit to do so and once that process is complete then a federal exercise could be undertaken. This need not be an exercise in futility, bent on division and exploitation. It could be the way to improve our democracy and our government in a manner that would benefit the public. -
Wildrose Alliance vies for second place

The WRAP folks think very highly of themselves. They have great aspirations, but the fact remains that they have one seat and are trying to split the right which is in power. -
Harper and McGuinty Deficits
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I tend to agree with the journalist, this is just the beginning. The debt and deficits will impact both provincial and federal spending, which will results in cuts that affect those least able to absorb the reductions. In the private sector prices will go up again impact those least able to deal with the issues. In the long run this will create a new class structure in the nation. This will indeed make the rich even more rich and the poor even more so. With each tax increase comes a loophole for those that can afford it to claim a tax deduction. I hate income taxes! -

The Queen is our head of state. Until that is changed we OWE her our allegiance and loyalty. We will pay for her visits and wine and dine the Royal Family with as much grace and respect as possible. -
Tory senator linked to key players in Quebec scandal
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It begins. Once again it starts in Quebec, which may or may not suggest something else. At any rate, the possibility of scandal is very bad news for Harper. Watch how all the other parties will bring this to the table, and quickly at that. I would expect Question Period to be the staging area to organize the attack on Harper. It is a logical place to start because of the free public attention and media coverage it gets. -
You can call it what you want, but when the rights of the individual are eliminated in favour of the powers and authority of government then there is a very serious and detrimental issue. I am amazed that private citizens cannot see how very dangerous this sort of thing is. Under normal circumstances this type of legislation would be subject to provisions of due process and I am unable to understand why in this instance such provisions have been removed. In my view this kind of thing is in violation of our constitutional rights.

Problems for the Canadian Crown

I would like to see a poll about G.W.Bush! This is funny because the Queen has about as much relevance as the US president, perhaps less. -
This Bill is complete nonsense. I simply cannot believe that we elected a government that would pass legislation to circumvent the rights of citizens. Each and every elected representative that supports this legislation should be removed from office at the next election. That is perhaps the only way democracy can or should function.

Canadian Identity: un-American
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Sniglet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The trend toward conservatism is due to the desire to retain the old ways in old age. -
Simply bringing back the death penalty will fix nothing. Mandatory minimums are a good start in my view. I would suggest that ANY violent offense have an automatic minimum 10 year sentence. Weapons offenses should have a mandatory minimum 10 years sentence. In addition to this I would suggest a minimum 10 year sentence for crimes committed during the tenure of their sentence in custody. Law breaking needs to be made into a very serious offense to society. The idea of committing an offense MUST be made into something to be avoided.

Perhaps. It is a crap shoot. Iggy needs more time, but even that may not be enough for him. He is not exactly "leading" the party anywhere right now. The man just isn't Moses, and I don't think he can continue to wander around for another forty years. The party wants action, and he just isn't playing things out the way ANYBODY expected him too. Unless he has an ace up his sleeve the party may have bought a lemon. We shall know very soon.

Should the Law protect criminals?
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As it stands the laws says that pot is a bad and illegal thing. Guess why the police spend so much time on it! -

Ah tax grabs! The governments can never seem to quench their thirst at this tax paying citizens banquet. -

CR, I am not sure where you are coming from.... I mean to suggest that we take a harder line on laws and their enforcement. -
A reasonable expectation.

Tory ridings get more stimulus money
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is true! You can't trust them and they never turn a profit. So now tell me what makes them so great and good and deserving of the powers and authorities that they have chosen to use in our names? -
Agreed.
