How Canadians view our military
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Poll taken has more Canadians wanting out military to return to "peacekeeping" rather than enter into a "seek and kill" mode we have in Afghanistan. BTW, I just heard on the news, that a US General is saying that Afghanistan is looking more like a losing battle. The blame has to go to Bush and his gang for pulling out so early the first time and going into Iraq. There is the original thread. Now what the hell does.... have to do with the original thread? -
Federal prison overhaul plan
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As a society we need to decide what we want. We already have a legal system, but we don't have a justice system. As a society we need to decide to create a system of justice. In my view that would mean removing threats to society and empowering citizens to that end. -

The exception is of course provincial politics which tends to be much different than the federal version. -

Here is a subject worthy of Liberal or any partisan support. Nation building is the category of the day folks. -
Do not bet one way or the other with the NDP. They get to call the ball, if they support the Conservatives there is no election and Iggy wants an election. The real question is what will Iggy do to go from here to there.
-
We didn't want the last election either, but we got it in spite of what we wanted to serve no other purpose than to provide an opportunity for the government to get a majority. This time the other side wants a kick at the cat and it is therefore a bad idea!

Canadians Sitting on Cash Mountain
Jerry J. Fortin replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It comes from 50 years of life in this nation. The untapped wealth of the people is now being eyeballed by the financial spin doctors as potential that may be utilized to some advantage. Now seriously folks, just exactly whose advantage does you think that will be? Has anyone ever seen a financial advantage to the citizen? We can't even get our government to declare our mortgages tax deductible! Think about that for a minute. The roof over top of a business is a tax deduction for them, but not for the pond scum citizen. All under the guise of an economic model that serves the interest of business not the citizen. -
Harper is still short of a majority, and the election has yet to be called. I think he will be lucky to hold onto power when the results are finalized.

Federal prison overhaul plan
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The issue here should be the containment of the perpetrators of violent crimes. The entire issue is clouded by those with agendas of moral superiority and a predisposition to forming judgments. The reality is that we are our brothers keeper, and as such do we or should we become our brothers parent? Do we take responsibility for all of the actions of our brother or do we simply ensure our brothers safety and freedom? Just what is it that people want the government to do? -

Federal prison overhaul plan

Only a fool would believe that legislation solves all of the problems of society. The thing to keep in mind is that some things are harmful to others and those are that which the government should regulate and legislate. Lets keep in mind the purpose of elected representatives and government shall we. -
Federal prison overhaul plan

To those that have ears let them listen!!! Things that are out of control are only out of the control of governments. They are in the control of the private if illegal sector of the economy. Should a government make the move to make these illegal things legal, you can bet your sweet ass that organized crime would have something to say about it. That would be a clue to where the money is really going. Nobody is asking to legalize anything but weed in the drug trade. Not crack or meth or other chemicals, that stuff is really bad for people, but not weed. There is no truth to the gateway drug line of crap. The same applies to hookers. Nobody thinks we should legalize underage girls or pimps, just the trade workers and the means to do business. Do that and you can put more teeth in laws against sexual offenses. -
Of course the puppet masters lending the money to the pet governments think they have spent enough for now and would rather get a few paychecks out of them before we go to the next round of the price is right.

The sad truth is that it takes two incomes to support a family. We already know what is going on with respect to our birth rates, now we simply have to put the two ideas together and reach a conclusion. -

Tories making inroads in Toronto: poll
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I call bullshit on that! More like a different name for the PC's. They had to since an awful lot of them went to jail for their last run at the provincial kitty! That is what caused the dippers to get a government there in the first place. -

Nobody is always right or wrong. The NDP have some good ideas, most folks would agree to that, but they would also say that they wouldn't trust them to run the nation. -

Jerry J. Fortin replied to wulf42's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There a lots of jobs in this nation. But when you pay people not to work they have a tendency to be a little picky about where they work and how much they will accept as wages. So EI is a problem and for that matter so is welfare. By the way there are a large number of professional immigrants who are working far below what they are qualified to do. Such as engineers that are cab drivers. I used to work with a physics guy from Pakistan who was working as a clerk for about half as much as me. The issue here is about willingness to work and the our societies willingness to pay. -

BC you are ignorant of the facts in this case. The UN defines the mission and the TOE, it also writes the rules of engagement. The General was sent into a den of vipers with nothing but his dick in his hand. Read up on this please. -
Ignatieff-fight terrorism with politics
Jerry J. Fortin replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Afghan mission is bad news. It started bad and it will end bad, that is the reality we need to face. Our troops went in with nothing and they will come out with nothing. We gain nothing from the effort, even though it costs us greatly. Canada needs to rethink its position in terms of international politics. There is much to be said from many different perspectives and those things needs to be said publicly.
