Isn't it remarkable how right-wing and leftie woke come together in sweet harmony creating alternative realities - only with opposing signatures? Ones try to shrug off, explain away and trivialize extreme brutality and inhumanity - only because their brains wouldn't let them think and decide for themselves, contrary to the messes of their Lying Idol. And the others, impose on you non-existent obligations and guilt. "Everybody looking for something", as they say. The brain has evolved for a reason. One can observe, understand and make their own decision. You always have this choice.

Are Canada's democratic institutions adequate for this century?
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Funny, on the same radio that I'd turn on randomly, a few days back some professor was utterly convincing that there isn't any serious problems with the inflation and "in comparison" Canada is doing just fine. Guess it looks different from different ends of the stick. They just didn't notice (couldn't? or couldn't care?). Look Joe, and why don't you just get the brioches? -
Are Canada's democratic institutions adequate for this century?
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Indeed that seems to be human nature, magnified multi-fold in sleepy Canada. If it worked two centuries back why shouldn't it work today, in the world of 21st century? If there's a slightest chance that it could squeeze, anyhow coughing and screeching another decade or two why not take it? I'm afraid that the only stimulus to do anything real would be now for the things to get much, much worse. -
Are Canada's democratic institutions adequate for this century?
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why having, and paying a lot for a tool that cannot work, and has no intent of working, in principle? Why have these quasi-questionings where nobody has to answer any questions; does not expect meaningful answers and doesn't get the point of the whole thing except as a dumb, useless pantomime show? This goes beyond traditional sleepiness and complacency; it borders right on insanity. -
Are Canada's democratic institutions adequate for this century?
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is hardly a question, loaded or not rather a standard and entrenched practice, that comes down to: I, the government don't have to answer (meaningfully and honestly) any of your (citizens, the society) questions. When it comes to this condition, and level it's no democracy any longer. Aristocracy? Elite? Monarchy? Your call but a democratic government cannot speak to representatives of the citizens in this way. We have pseudo-inquiries that can be shut down at any time before giving full answers; We have the circus period that is well, a circus and what else? And then, we have this. Why are we doing this? Why paying for a silly show? Why pay to a senator who knows they won't get a meaningful answer? And why pay to the bureaucrat for saying "I cannot answer"? I have difficulty locating the subject after the fact. It was a discussion in the Senate, of the interest on the national debt and an exchange of a senator (from Maritimes I believe) with a Ministry of Finance official was quoted. -
Are Canada's democratic institutions adequate for this century?

It can be related to this story, but I cannot find direct matches on the Senate site, guess it's not important government working and something is happening. My question is somewhat different: in the dilemma, does government work for the citizens, or citizens are for the government to rule there can be no uncertainties or compromises. And if the parliament (supposedly) representative of citizens cannot get answers to reasonable questions from the government, which one it would be? This is a critical point on which democracy itself hinges: if the government can simply say "no", without any consequences or sanctions, to representatives of citizens this cannot be a democracy. No way. No toy rituals and pretty paintings can change this factual conclusion. I turn the radio on randomly not sure with station it was possibly CFRA, today (10.10) morning broadcast. -
Some of these questions were raised earlier, just overheard on the local radio another unbelievable episode. The Senate hearing" on the national debt. A senator (former financial auditor, chartered accountant): please give me this number on the government issued bonds. Government official (federal): no, I don't have the number. Sorry. Question closed. Nobody, the senator, radio host and the commentator had a grain of belief that they wouldn't have the number. Such gross levels of professional incompetence aren't even imaginable. What was the point of this quasi-hearing if we, citizens who supposedly own the whole thing are paying for it cannot know what needs to be known? So the question has to be stated differently: Why? Why would anyone buy a glass hammer, and for an outrageous annual price? Why would anyone (sane) buy for their own $$ a useless circus show that cannot give any meaningful answers? Just south, its a criminal offense to mislead a Congress hearing. Those are the real, genuine hearings. And what was that? Why do we need this sad and useless parody? It's not limited to the Senate of course. Can RCMP investigate ministers including PM? Heavens (maybe) know. Can courts suspend government policies that go against the law? In about a decade (maybe). How does democracy work here? Does it even work? How can it work, in this century, without functional, working independent mechanisms of transparency and accountability?

The first democracies in Greece and Rome perished under the weight of great apish genetic laziness and quest for an alpha master. The two do the trick in a flash. Why think if someone can do it for us? Why take any responsibility if the Supreme Idol will tell us all that we ever need to hear or know? It's an uphill tread any and every day. And these days, the road got a tad shakier.

Like these day's "peace"? How many moons do you see in your sky? Possibility of "peace" with tyrants and dictators used to be a naive fantasy. But it was a long time ago. These days the only correct words are: a) a lie or b) stupidity. Because the moment you show them a weakness they come back straight at you. And nothing written or communicated in any human language has any meaning to them.

Global assault on democracy has begun. The outcome, far from certain
myata replied to myata's topic in Religion & Politics
Yes erosion of democracy takes many forms these days. And none of this is a good news. -
Modern democracy is assaulted on four fronts simultaneously. 1. The Tyrant Axis unleashed a quest first to undermine, then end the rules-based order established after WWII. Stability and security is one of the main, or let's say it the main condition of stable development and prosperity. Ukraine, Israel: once the dictators worldwide get the feel that joining the Axis they acquire total impunity for whatever they do, plan to do or have done; and possibly nukes it would be a flash, in historical terms for the world to transition to a very different state. 2. Division and isolationism: populist politicians and forces in some democratic countries seek to benefit from the rising chaos by pretending that it doesn't exist; that there are more important problems; that they can negotiate with the tyrants and forces of chaos. It serves them personally; and it can lead to a disaster for the society, and the entire democratic world by weakening its will and resolve right at the time of challenge. They couldn't care less. They care only about the power. 3. Internal forces of populism and authoritarianism. Somehow they feel attraction of authoritarianism. They are saying, one shouldn't fear it and may embrace it. First, by eroding ethical principles and will to act. Next, logically, by undermining the institutions of democracy in the democratic countries. 4. Internal problems of popular representative democracy: detachment of governments and elites; failure to produce and maintain, despite the challenges a model and standard of broad shared prosperity. This is far from easy setting with a clear outcome. Democracies have to see and understand the real scale and significance of the challenged and seek solutions in clear principled shared position and coordinated, intelligent cooperation.

So is it wrong to give assistance to the victim of a brutal aggression now? Yes? They just couldn't stop lying. Such a worthless and useless lying bunch.
-
See they can never answer even a simplest question straight. Is it wrong to invade and attack? Or just fine "genius" if their Lying Idol said so? Is it something wrong with them? You figure. Don't listen, watch.
-
Wait so it's wrong to invade another country and target, attack and kill civilians now? Or only on Tuesdays? Which one? Those right-something folks really leave me confused. Or just a bunch of brainless, principle-less hypocrites, cheapest one could find in any denomination. No one can be this naive or dumb.

Wishing well is never a good argument in evolution: it's all about the resources; energy; will to change and adapt; and the environment that is, stimuli. In the political system that entrenched itself in Canada there's about zero incentives for intelligent and responsible dialogue. It's just not how it works. You dump on your opponent as much mud as possible; and you position yourself as the sole cause and source of everything that is good in the country. Then you are elected with a "landslide" (never to confuse with genuine popular support); then you rule from the hip, no questions checks or controls. And then you screw up finally and your opponent gets their "landslide". This is how it works. Never to confuse.

This is a total failure, of everything: mind, ethics, principles. Do you understand that a criminal is a criminal because of what they did in the reality? Not because of what they say; what they think; or even you think about them. Do you understand the notions of an act and the reality? War crimes? Crimes against humanity? Do you understand that "encroached" even if it had some meaning, is not equal to war crimes and crimes against humanity? Do you understand that Hitler and his party were condemned because of the crimes they committed in this reality? Not because of the picture book you read? Can you observe the reality? Can you see the war crimes and crimes against humanity now, these days and next door? Throughout the centuries good neighbors always helped each other to defend and protect against violence and brutality. Wrong with you. Speaks volumes of you. If you don't it speaks only of you, who you are. Let criminals run free and do whatever atrocities they like? Hide and hope that they won't get to you - and if they tried where would you run, to who? A total, dismal and despisable failure. Nothing good and you're saying it all yourself I don't even have anything to add.
-
Should we stand up to Hitlers of our time? Binary thinking is "oversimplification"! Look you have nothing to add here. No reason to think and no will to act. No ethical principles to act upon either. Take your pills and listen to a lullaby, may help. Eat and excrete regularly. And that would be pretty much it - wouldn't it?
-
"Giving ... billion total to fight (Hitler) with no end in sight will keep the violence going!" "Immediate ceasefire (with Hitler) may help!" Only the last time around Canadians gave way more than just money. Ironic isn't it? Heroes go to fight an abysmal evil to earn the future for generations. Some folks grow soft, entitled to comfort, they don't like to think, have no will to act chant some words mindlessly without a glimpse of the meaning of the cost of their fleeting comfort. And then the time presents them with the next exam. And what? Noooo we don't have to do this, we don't like doing this! It shouldn't be anything to do with us. Doing nothing should help! But the time isn't listening: it's only the exam for being an intelligent human being and having a future. Pass or fail it: and no other options. Every generation or so has to pass it. No delays or escapes. The time will just have to see what this generation is worth. Will it stand up to bullies and thugs of the world? Or fade away, to some useless grey murmur? It's all being decided now. Nothing is guaranteed, in evolution. Remember?
