Warning to All MLW Members - Fear and the Cronavirus
Rue replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your comments make zero sense and are also false. You are a classic example of someone who panics and does not think. First off you went to this site: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Then you took a look at this box: Closed Cases 82,288 Cases which had an outcome: 76,219 (93%) Recovered / Discharged 6,069 (7%) Deaths Then you assume from the above there is a death rate of 7% of anyone who gets the virus. You give no thought to your assumption. You just leap to the conclusion and say something absolutely stupid, that people should walk around in haz mat suits. You give no thought to the idiocy of the statement and why that would not work. First off before you rush to a web site and remove its information, read the whole damn thing: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/ https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/ Here is why your panic and hysteria and removing a statistic out of context is idiotic READ: https://www.bakersfield.com/ap/national/what-is-the-fatality-rate-for-the-new-coronavirus-and/article_04c66afc-bea5-5a0a-90e7-ea2ae295532e.html You can run around in a manic phase yipping and yapping, or you take a grip on your mania. Which one is it man because spreading bullshit hype about people dying is contemptable and irresponsible. You know better man. Stop it. Get a damn grip: " because the current infection count is too low, that death rate — known formally as a “case fatality rate” or “case fatality ratio” — is too high. “That’s one thing we can pretty much say with certainty,” said Josh Michaud, who was an infectious disease epidemiologist with the Defense Department during the H1N1 influenza pandemic in 2009." source: https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2020-02-11/how-deadly-is-coronavirus-fatality-rate "As the COVID-19 spreads, scientists are learning more about the disease’s fatality rate. “Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organization, said at a press briefing in Geneva. That’s more than previous estimates of around 2% and the influenza fatality rate of less than 1%. Tedros previously said the fatality rate in Wuhan, China, considered the epicenter of the outbreak, is between 2% and 4%. Outside of Wuhan, it is thought to be closer to 0.7%, although some estimates put it at closer to 2%. The epidemic is “affecting countries in different ways,” he added. Worldwide, there were 110,588 COVID-19 cases and 3,841 deaths as of Monday morning; 62,109 people worldwide have recovered, according to data published by the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering. In the U.S., 22 people have died, and there are approximately 564 confirmed cases, Johns Hopkins added. The WHO fatality rate estimate could be related to officials underestimating the number of actual cases. If infections are actually higher globally, the fatality rate would obviously fall. The more time asymptomatic people spend going about their daily lives, the more people can become infected." source: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/coronavirus-fatality-rates-vary-wildly-depending-on-age-gender-and-medical-history-some-patients-fare-much-worse-than-others-2020-02-26 -

You can find lists of the "many" economic accomplishments he takes credit for but never on these partisan lists will you find any mention of the deficit under his reign: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/2018/02/09/trumps-federal-budget-deficit-1-trillion-and-beyond/#6b96e516544f His supporters will produce list upon list of his accomplishments but when you fact check them ooops…….. https://projects.thestar.com/donald-trump-fact-check/ Oh but wait. Biden called a poor little girl a dog faced pony. Owe Mah-eye Gawwwwd. I mean how unstable. But Trump insult anyone...who Donald?....ahahah….here is just a partial list of people he's insulted on twitter which is a great accomplishment and of course makes him more qualified than Biden: https://www.thewrap.com/everyone-donald-trump-has-insulted-since-taking-office-photos/ But wait. This is a man you can trust. Trump lie? Who Trump?..... https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/04/trump-has-told-more-than-10000-lies-since-being-inaugurated-washington-post One of the reasons we Canadians should want him re-elected is because ofhis brilliant insights about Canada: https://www.nationalobserver.com/2016/07/07/opinion/stupid-things-trump-has-said-about-canada Also I mean come one...he has a glowing record of human resources accomplishments....this is what makes a great leader: https://www.businessinsider.com/who-has-trump-fired-so-far-james-comey-sean-spicer-michael-flynn-2017-7 He also is a man who has a great memory unlike that demented Biden: https://thefederalist.com/2016/03/24/10-things-trump-said-but-says-he-didnt/ Now wait a second....he also shares a unique characteristic with very few Presidents, Johnson and Clinton to be specific...being sent to the Senate for impeachment....wow...that's a great accomplishment. But hey now he is according to himself the greatest President ever and according to Wes, Often, Shade E,., BeeC (she is not a Trump supporter ahahahahah), et al, he is a miracle worker with the economy and a role model for the kind of mental agility we want in the white house...I mean come on look at his economic record..... "One reason for declining life expectancy in America is what Anne Case and Nobel laureate economist Angus Deaton call deaths of despair, caused by alcohol, drug overdoses, and suicide. In 2017 (the most recent year for which good data are available), such deaths stood at almost four times their 1999 level.3 The only time I have seen anything like these declines in health – outside of war or epidemics – was when I was chief economist of the World Bank and found out that mortality and morbidity data confirmed what our economic indicators suggested about the dismal state of the post-Soviet Russian econo Trump may be a good president for the top 1% – and especially for the top 0.1% – but he has not been good for everyone else. If fully implemented, the 2017 tax cut will result in tax increases for most households in the second, third, and fourth income quintiles. The tax cuts were supposed to spur a new wave of investment. Instead, they triggered an all-time record binge of share buybacks – some $800 billion in 2018 – by some of America’s most profitable companies, and led to record peacetime deficits (almost $1 trillion in fiscal 2019) in a country supposedly near full employment. And even with weak investment, the US had to borrow massively abroad: the most recent data show foreign borrowing at nearly $500 billion a year, with an increase of more than 10% in America’s net indebtedness position in one year alone. Likewise, Trump’s trade wars, for all their sound and fury, have not reduced the US trade deficit, which was one-quarter higher in 2018 than it was in 2016. The 2018 goods deficit was the largest on record. And despite Trump’s vaunted promises to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US, the increase in manufacturing employment is still lower than it was under his predecessor, Barack Obama, once the post-2008 recovery set in, and is still markedly below its pre-crisis level. Even the unemployment rate, at a 50-year low, masks economic fragility. The employment rate for working-age males and females, while rising, has increased less than during the Obama recovery, and is still significantly below that of other developed countries. The pace of job creation is also markedly slower than it was under Obama.2 Again, the low employment rate is not a surprise, not least because unhealthy people can’t work. Moreover, those on disability benefits, in prison – the US incarceration rate has increased more than sixfold since 1970, with some two million people currently behind bars – or so discouraged that they are not actively seeking jobs are not counted as “unemployed.” But, of course, they are not employed. Nor is it a surprise that a country that doesn’t provide affordable childcare or guarantee family leave would have lower female employment – adjusted for population, more than ten percentage points lower – than other developed countries. Even judging by GDP, the Trump economy falls short. Last quarter’s growth was just 2.1%, far less than the 4%, 5%, or even 6% Trump promised to deliver, and even less than the 2.4% average of Obama’s second term. That is a remarkably poor performance considering the stimulus provided by the $1 trillion deficit and ultra-low interest rates. This is not an accident, or just a matter of bad luck: Trump’s brand is uncertainty, volatility, and prevarication, whereas trust, stability, and confidence are essential for growth. So is equality, according to the International Monetary Fund." source for the above: https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/grim-truth-about-trump-economy-by-joseph-e-stiglitz-2020-01 But hey now one thing we do on Trump threads is when the actual economic success of Trump is revealed for what it is...a crock of shit.. a litany of lies...we just dismiss anything that doesn't promote the Trump agenda as "lies" and "hatred". Poof it no longer exists in the world of Trump fantasy where anything that does not worship Trump is a lie and we attack the person who says it personally as a liar and hey we go in front of crowds and mimic cerebral palsy and ask Latinos where they were born, and create fantasies about creating employment for blacks. Please list what Trump has achieved. Before you stereotype anyone list what he has achieved in 4 years. Of course this is about his record. To say this is not about his record is ridiculous BC. If you provide his list of accomplishments make sure they actually are and he is responsible for them...can you do that....ahahahah. -
Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?
Rue replied to godzilla's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No not at all. I said trying to suggest Donald Trump is any different than Joe Biden when it comes to dementia is illogical and trying to present Trump as a more intelligent option than Biden is just out and out demented. I have never stated Biden or Trump are good enough for President. Ever. Please do not come on this board and try pose Trump as some kind of Godsend compared to Biden. He's not. He is a piece of ignorant shit. Biden is a sleeze bag for other reasons. To try pose Trump as less demented is just idiotic. -

Proud you need to stop with the nonsensical responses. Use common sense just once instead of ranting. The vast majority of people who get the corona virus do not get that sick. Think before you write idiotic responses. Think just once what that means. -

I am not sure it will work but I get your point which was well stated Eye. Bottom line is it may take up to a year to develop a vaccine maybe faster and everything we do is a stop-gap. I myself watching the path of other infections and how they spread think and I know this sounds crazy we do not hide from the virus. When I was a kid, when one of us got the measles or chicken pox, the rest of the siblings were deliberately exposed to it. So we did not need vaccines. Surely if the vast majority of people getting this virus are not seriously harmed by it which appears to be the case, why not properly focus on immune deficient people not healthy people in our approach? Let people who are healthy get the damn virus. Their bodies will resist it. Right now our systems are clogged by healthy people fearing the virus wanting to be tested. Most get over it far faster than a cold or flu so why the damn obsession? I am tempted to go out, deliberately get it and then have people watch me on you tube sit there and not be sick and I am 63. I would want to point out the only thing they have to fear is my body odour.

Ok I have had it up to my fat head over the sheer non stop stream of corona virus discussion most of it ignorant, untrue, exaggerated, and just out and out idiotic. The actual panic over this virus can be explained: https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/medical/why-coronavirus-has-created-a-panic-despite-low-fatality-rate/ar-BBZuJlw https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/the-coronavirus-is-causing-a-global-panic-but-thats-a-good-thing https://www.sciencefocus.com/news/coronavirus-is-it-a-cause-for-panic/ https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-02-12/coronavirus-in-america-keep-your-panic-in-check Let's just summarize it: 1-the virus is new, the reactions to it are NOT; 2-the vast majority of people who contracted it made full recoveries and had mild symptoms-those who have died were already seriously immunity compromised which means its not the virus itself which is fatal but the lack of immunities in a particular individual's body when they have specific pre-existing medical conditions; 3-when something is invisible. appears to be beyond understanding and control in a quick simple response, it creates a threat, then anxiety and panic is a further acting out of the anxiety; 4-internet and cell phones have socially amplified and glued people to a myopic obsession to the virus; 5-the actual chance of getting infected is LOW if you simply wash your hands regularly, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough and do not touch surfaces others touch; 6-flu is far ore infectious and serious and takes far more lives than this virus; 7-people who eat a properly balanced diet, wash their hands at least 20 seconds, if they do eat meat cook it properly and get the right amount of sleep will have sufficient immunities to ward off this or other viruses; 8-every virus has a dna sequence which once coded can then enable us to come up with a vaccine; Let us summarize it again: a-the corona virus is not the problem or killing people and will not kill most people-its secondary infections people with pre-existing immunity deficiencies then catch as these infections piggy back onto the person with the virus that makes them sick or might kill them; b-the secondary infections, i.e., pneumonia are treated with anti-biotics which means in most cases even with immune deficient people anti-biotics, anti-inflamatories and hydration will keep them alive; c-the medical complication leading to respiratory illnesses is caused by swelling and so people are given steroids like Solu-Medrol to reduce the swelling. Ignorance of the above is unintentionally insulting to nurses, doctors, paramedics, firefighters, police or other front-line workers who each day are exposed to thousands of pathogens and contagious bacterias and viruses-panic is a message that says what these people are expected to deal and manage, you and I do not have to and we have a right to engage in irrational behavior but they don"t? How about all the people in countries who live with far more serious contaminants, diseases and pandemics? Why are all of you suddenly panicked over corona never that way in the past over Ebola? When Zeka virus, Avian (bird) flu, Legionaire's disease, Swine flue, Spanish flu spread were you buying toilet paper? Did you buy up toilet paper when you first heard of AIDS? Does your exposure to salmonella poisoning, e-coli bactreria, cause you to panic and buy toilet paper? What the hell has happened to some of you? Well let me say, your governments have not helped. Their shutting down schools giving you the impression this is a constructive way to stop the virus simply fuels your panic. The virus doesn't magically disappear because you slow down its spread-viruses do not disappear and most are quickly contained if you just wash your hands and stop using your cell phones as a petri dish to cultivate and maintain the bacteria and viruses you carry around. Put down that bloody cell phone that leads you by the nose. Wash your friggin hands for twenty seconds, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and don't lick people's swet or drink their blood. Gee how hard is that? Next use common sense. You want to eat meat, properly clean and cook it damn it. You want to eat mammals you know have diseases, that is your choice, but don't act surprised when they pass on viruses to you. You are not a vulture. Vultures have amazing stomach acids that make them immune to almost any damn virus out there. You act like a vulture but you aint a vulture. Likewise rats and cockroaches other than vultures have the best immunity systems for resisting infection. Not us homo sapiens. There that said, get your carriage full of toilet paper out of my face thank you.

I have read a paper and most virus experts say this one came from a mutated virus from the practice of eating bats. They are now pretty sure this one was from a bat and mutated. So your comments about zoonotic diseases is dead on. Most of these viruses jump to us from what kind of flesh we eat. This is why for example at one point we had Leviticus trying to create health rules about what type of flesh to eat. It forbid shell fish because of red algae which would make them toxic. It prohibited eating of pig because the only way to guarantee a pig was safe to eat would be to salt it and in a hot desert climate salting meat would kill people. For thousands of years people did not mix dairy and meat and realized the transmission of germs while handling food kills. What we have to day are people out of touch spreading their germs on their cell phones, computers and travelling much larger distances faster. People don't die off in the boats while travelling anymore. They get to where they go within hours carrying their diseases. With progress comes more movement of people and therefore increases in transmission of all kinds of things including viruses. -
A combination of weather, US trade tarrifs (which are not indicative of a free market, the exact opposite), weather, increased US productivity (market supply and demand yes) and decrease of human movement triggered by government policies in response to the virus have led to lower prices. Prices were going down before the virus. The virus shutting own Chinese movement and industry for a month also triggered a blip downwards across world markets as well. Gas prices going down means less demand due to less work activity. Its all relative. Its not necessarily a good or bad sign. Market conditions are more often based not on free market supply and demand but consortiums or networks fixing the prices. Free trade has always been an illusion because every nation engages in protectionism of its own businesses. As well stock markets free fall based on panic but eventually rebound. For every dip is a corresponding market correction eventually. In fact the next generations elite are mow going to make their fortunes based on the panic. They will by undervalued stocks and sit on them. The immediate negative impact is on people like me who do not get paid if we do not work. We are the first fatalities extending credit cards. That causes debt increases and thus the bank lowers interest rates so people can borrow money which is a stop gap not a solution to preventing people going bankrupt. Real estate sales will slow, travel of course is directly impacted. Anything non essential and recreational or entertainment type business will suffer but then other essential service suppliers will thrive with panic buying and these suppliers will be sending panic emails out on the internet to encourage buying of their products. Eventually when a vaccine is produced (might take up to a year t make) there will be a rebound to the economy. Whatever happens, hiding from the virus will not work Some of the slow down is genuine in an attempt to lower human physical interaction but its half-assed in that its not a solution-it at best tries to slow the transference but it doesn't stop it from existing. Bottom line-gas prices were already dropping before the virus but yes have been accelerated by reaction to the virus slowing down business activity and human movement: https://www.thebalance.com/oil-price-forecast-3306219 https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2015/02/three-reasons-for-the-oil-price-drop/ https://moneywise.com/a/why-gas-prices-are-falling https://www.heritage.org/environment/commentary/the-real-reason-gas-prices-are-falling

May a gay person through a cream pie in your face. This kind of crap does not belong in court or in a rational world. If someone is that upset about gay people they won't bake them a cake that is pathetic. To call it a win is sad. Being ignorant of others in the name of God is not a win its just ignorance couched as religious views. You really think Jesus would not feed you because you are gay?

You may be right. I do not think you are being soft myself. I get your point. Bankrupting a nation is not going to help.

Tell me seriously, have you looked at the negatives...ever....you tell other people they have tunnel vision...how about you....do you think you present objective, logical analysis of what Trump does, says and has "achieved"? You just don't want to look just as much as you accuse anyone who disagrees with you. You are no different than say Wes trying to make an argument about Biden being old and demented but Trump being a genius. -

As Shady said stupidity is the problem. If there is a slow down which now appears inevitable there will also be a rebound effect. Usually in the first month or so of such issues people act irrationally then calm down when reality hits in that hoarding toilet paper won't protect the Angel of Death from flying overhead and they should have smeared lamb's blood on their front door if you know what I mean. Oh for sure all business across the board will feel an impact. Hell I face not working without pay now for at least what 3 weeks.....no problem though..I will eat my toilet paper. On a more serious note as people know your intimate ties to Iran, we know that country was hit heavy and I hate to say such a negative thing but if it wipes out the damn idiots running the country good. Anyways seriously I know you were already worried and rightfully so about human rights and freedom in Iran then the virus. I just am one of those people who does not panic and uses common sense. I won't run out and buy toilet paper or stock up on stupidity. Food supplies and logistics are fine. Canada is full of affluent people who have never had a real crisis to face so things like this seem monumental. I was in a clinic with a cholera outbreak. Now that man, is something to see how fast it kills. In any event I am grouchy these days from all the dumb panic but I would say to you as I have said to so many students, the virus will not kill. Its a mild virus. Its only a problem for immune deficient people as any flu would have been. Its a mild like flu. People need to get a grip on their reality and understand the very cell phone full of their own germs is what is spreading the virus not just on the surface of the screen but in the sheer volume of stupidity going across the internet. -
