Actually social conservatism is not relegated to christians. Here are some socially conservative stands - Pro-life - Against Gay Marriage, but will accept civil unions - Supportive of the traditional family - Tough on criminals such as pedophiles and rapists - Strong belief that the country was founded on principles of Judeo-Christian values, this can be backed up by the fathers of confederation who said that Canada must be a nation pleasing to god - Raising the age of consent to 18 - Eliminating child pornography - Compassion does through personal affairs, and not by the government These views can be held by anyone, including atheists, muslims, jews, and christians. I think that the big problem is that nobody tries to define what social conservatism is. It also seems that the Liberal party is trying to make christianity seem "evil" to voters, this is a strategy that is often employed by the left. But Canada was built on the traditional family, respect for life, hard work, and compassion. These values guided Canada when we began our country, and helped us win against the evils of nazism and communism. In the early twentieth century people were'nt afraid to say that this was a christian nation, Martin Luther King wrote that our laws must reflect the moral code of the Bible. Now it seems that the thing that were once considered good are now considered evil, and the old things considered evil, are now considered good. I agree. The fact is that the NDP has become even more radical with Jack Layton. I never trust a person who won't even allow his MP's to vote freely on gay marriage. The NDP does'nt seem to believe in democracy and would only allow narrow minded left wing thinking in their party. Lets look at the the conservatives were open to civil unions, health care reforms, taxes, and democracy. So the NDP is obviously the most narrow minded party in the country.

Lets wait and see what happens in the election. It's going to be an interesting fight. Layton's new, Harper's new, and Martin's new. I think that the Liberal's will get a minority for sure, my main reasoning behind it is that the NDP will be a major factor in this election, and will split the vote in Ontario much like the right did. Don't trust poll's until the election. This one is going to be interesting, we have three new leaders of the major national parties. It's anybodies game, will Layton crash, will Harper crash, will Martin crash, its all hard to say until the writ is dropped. I hope that Harper will do well, and believe he will do well. Harper is calmer than either Martin or Layton. I also believe that Layton's hardline policies towards gay rights, feminism, and abortion, will not sit well with middle class families, where as Harpers belief in civil unions, free votes on abortions, and strong beliefs in equality will. - I kind of think that Bill Blaikie, and Lorne Nystrom would have made great leaders of the NDP. More middle of the road, however you put in a Tommy Douglas/ Dick Gephardt/Herbert Hoover, then I would certainly consider voting NDP.

Poll's really don't mean much. What matters is how the election turns out. It will be very interesting, we have three newcomers, Harper, Layton, and Martin. I was really hoping that the NDP would choose Bill Blaikie, or maybe Lorne Nystrom. I have alot of respect for those two since they are more moderate on social issues. I think that the NDP would do best under a leader akin to Tommy Douglas, hell then maybe I'd vote NDP.

Whats so great about the NDP. Really, I don't really want Canada to become the Asterdam of the North. I also believe that the majority will agree with me. Especially if their kids have access to injection sites, brothels, and other access to dangerous substances. So if the NDP does take over, then I garauntee that Alberta will seperate, along with some other provinces. No socialists wanted here.

I don't think that de-criminalizing marijauna displays any courage. All this country is doing is surrendering to the drug dealers. I also doubt that most Canadian's want to become an Amsterdam of the North. I don't really want to live in a country with rampant prostitution and drug abuse, do you???

I think its more about people trying to make a person a criminal. "I hope C-250's in effect", on that forum they said they would charge me for believing that communities should not be forced to have gay pride parades.

I never trust poll's in between elections. Lets all remember what the pollsters said before 93. 33%-PC 22%-Lib 22%-NDP 10%-Reform 8%-Bloq they were sure wrong back then. It all depends on the campaign, a good campaign can turn everything upside down. Personally I doubt Jack Layton will do well, he's extremely narrow minded on health care reform, and does'nt believe in democratic process. Martin made a mistake by shutting out the Chreitenites, I think that Harper could do very well. Lets see what happens with the Green party, I'm going to predict a vote split in BC.

Laws are put in place for a reason. Laws are suppose to create a healthy society. We as a society must clearly say what is right and wrong. Unfortunately we might start going into the grey on such issues as murder, rape, and theft.

My concern is that radical gays will start to go after anybody that disagrees with them. In BC a school counsellor disagreed with reading material from gay magazines that displayed the "Joy of Sadomasichism". He was fired for being a bigot. I personally don't care what gay's do in the privacy of their own home, but right now it seems that everybody is forced to believe that homosexuality is an acceptable behavior, and gay pride parades, and gay positive programs in school must be in place everywhere. I also have a huge concern over human rights boards. In Edmonton the elected mayor refused to have a gay pride parade, yet was forced to because he was sued. That is what scares people about the gay rights agenda. That we are all losing alot of our freedoms due to political correctness.

If a homosexual firebombs a Church should it be considered a hate crime. We have a double standard, we have made "victim" classes of people. Are society has also made an evil class of people [White, Male, Christian] I think that we should treat everybody as an individual before the court of law. Another fact to point out is that since the firebombing of the Jewish School could have been done by muslims, I doubt they would be charged with hate crimes. Hate Crime laws only apply when white people are the perpetrators.

I liked 1984, and I also like Animal Farm. Another book that certainly deserves praise is Brave New World.

This topic may be completely unrelated to the forum, but would just be interested in some peoples responses. My favorite book would have to be Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. I love how the main character in this book is compassionate with all of the people that he meets, and is willing to fight for a black man who has been wrongly accused of raping a white girl. The second book that I really liked is Huckleberry Finn. Strangely enough these books are also some of Pat Buchanan's favorites. Recently some members of the forum who will remain nameless have started to employ certain strategies to silence people on this forum. Those people have threatened those who disagree with the idea that safe anal sex is being taught in classrooms, must be called a hate mongerer, and are nobetter than nazis. They have used such tactics as name calling, and try to agitate members to fight back against them. They have even tried to get the owner of this website, to charge people under C-250. They also do not counter argue people, only continue with the same BS. They are in love with Svend Robinson, and would probably kill anybody opposed to Svend Robinson. This is no longer a place of free speech. I think that action must be taken against these certain individuals who abuse this forum of free speech, and want to create a 1984 type of forum, were thought speech is prevalent. PS: Whatever happened to Neal, Sir Springer, Krusty Kidd, Gugsy, and Pellaken. Now their was a debate to be had.

Its good news for those who wish to abuse the law. The problem is that the law will be abused by those certain left leaning hypocrites that will try to force people to believe homosexaulity is a healthy lifestyle. It will also be used by certain dimwits to destroy debate.

Police officers who worked prostitution told me that many prostitutes had started with drugs, and then once they were hooked before the age of 18 they started selling their bodies to pay for their addiction. Prostitution is an addiction quite a few of the prostitutes dont want to be there, but the drug addiction forces them to stay. Legalizing drugs and opening up drug sites is not the answer. I think that governments must do more to get people off drugs, and I know that once I turn 18 I'm going to do some volunteer work and help people get off their drug habits. In the netherlands organized crime has grown exponentialy, now more and more crime syndicates have money to produce ecstacy.

Euthanasia is a nazi type policy. Hitler originally brought about mercy deaths in Germany. Actually drugs are the root of many of Canada's social problems. My biggest fear with legalizing marijauna is that the criminal element will still benefit from the legalization on marijauna, and that more and more kids will start experimenting with harder drugs. Another issue with marijauna is that marijauna may infact be a gateway drug which presents a huge problem for the authorities. I think the best way to get a drug free Canada is to give longer sentences for the dealers, and to also clamp down on grow ops, and drugs shipped into the country. The Dutch Experiment Has Failed. By the way Black Dog, conservatives are for stronger families, and giving the community a strong foundation, that picture does'nt include drugs.

I doubt the NDP will ever gain official opposition. By the way stop calling the Liberal's right wing, the Liberals are in fact left wing, they support taxpayer funded abortion, criminal rights, crappy defense funding, gay rights, and limiting free speech. I don't believe in Svends belief that it is alright for a 14 year old to recieve anal copulation from a 45 year old sicko. I also believe that Svend Robinson should have been charged for murder for having assisted in a suicide. In my lifetime I have met people from all different races and cultures. I have an Aboriginal friend, a Black friend, a Filipino friend, and an Asian friend. I also have a cousin that is homosexual. I found that I did'nt need the government to tell me about tolerance, I learned it myself, my relative that is homosexual I have a fairly good relationship with, I just don't agree with his lifestyle. But I have a huge problem when the government shoves tolerance down peoples throats. For example I dont have a problem with gay as "people", but I have a huge problem with gay pride parades in my community, that does'nt make me a homophobe, and I should'nt be forced to believe that the homosexual lifestyle is alright. On the languages issue, I believe that when immigrants come to this country, they should have to learn english and adopt Canadian democracy, and the Canadian system. While I feel that immigrants should adopt Canadian culture, their is nothing wrong with people who bring over some traits of their old culture.
