New StatsCan unemployment figures
uOttawaMan replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He's taking the figure of private sector jobs cut, and juxtaposing it beside the new public sector jobs, and then drawing a correlation between the two by saying the NDP gov't is losing private jobs and replacing them with public jobs because they don't lower buisness taxes. -
Can anyone in the NDP say "I'm a hypocrite". Can anyone in any party say "I'm not a hypocrite?" I really don't think the Libs or CPC can sling mud on that sort of a sentence....

Dirt on the Conservatives goes here.
uOttawaMan replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually, this thread was intended to be humourous, but some people chose to take it into a different direction. Yea I wasn't referring to just this thread.. all of them turn into this kinda .. "BUT THIS PERSON IS THE LESSER OF THE EVILS CMON MORONZ!!!" kinda stuff. -
Ottawa Senators w0000 It's funny how shattered the Canadian Psyche will be if Wayne did something wrong.. well .. not really.. but yeah.

Although I know and respect the points both sides are making here, I just think it's really sad that in Canadian politics, most everything is debated in a "o yea, well this isnt as bad as... this was much worse than.." Ugh.. no wonder people get disillusioned, im only 19, and already im shaking my head.. -
How long will the Harper government last?
uOttawaMan replied to YankAbroad's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think people need to stop pulling partisan support out of their ass for a second, and realise noone holds a balance of power in parliament. The Conservatives obviously form the government, and at the moment have no "natural allies" (if there could be called such a thing in politics) so they obviously need opposition MP's to side with them for bills to pass. In the opposition benches, you have arguably a chance for 3 left wing parties to work together, however one is only interested in furthering the province of Quebec, which in certain cases allows them to support the Conservatives on issues of provincial inequality (such as the fiscal imbalance), the other is a left wing party with a rather small amount of seats (my party just so we're clear) , that's views tend to clash with the CPC, and has an overinflated opinion on how much influence it has in the house. That being said, those 29 seats can help a cause significantly if it was felt other opposition MP's might swing with the vote. The last belongs to a centrist party, who if they took a long look at many of the Conservative initiatives , would find they hold common ground with the CPC. However, they are stuck in a confused mess of in-fighting at the moment, and with their apparent bitterness, lack of leadership, and more than likely hesitancy to bring down a government so quickly, what support will and will not come from the Liberal party is really unpredictable at best. (That's just my opinion) That being said, none of this makes the slightest difference, since everyone on here is pretty much already set in their views, so im gonna eat a cookie. (I think this was my longest post ever here...mmm cookie) -
How long will the Harper government last?

You can't take my arrogance!! It's all I have left.. *sniff* -
How bout when the "Tradtion" and "sins" of the Catholic Church were challenged through the Reformation and other reformist movements. Guess what.. the world didn't end.. God did not strike down all of humanity for breaking his sacred laws. Nothing happened, so people accepted it. The same thing has happened in Canada, same-sex marriage has been allowed, the collapse of society has not occured, noone has been hurt, ergo it will stay. I really think that's what it boils down to, but im not so arrogant to believe that such a popular topic could be summed up that easily.

Ok ok.. as much as I hate doing this.. im so clever I just have to.. (Even tho i am left wing) Well judging by recent events, I think now more than ever, Wayne Gretzky is a prime candidate for the leadership of the liberal party. LOL So before you all flame me, I'm just playing, I know nothing has been proven, and I'm an avid hockey fan, so I really hope it isnt true.

I'm an arrogant NDP'er apparently. Wohoo for being an arrogant 3rd place!! -
How long will the Harper government last?
uOttawaMan replied to YankAbroad's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because, to Liberals, the natural order of things in Canada is for them to be in power. When that doesn't happen, they tend to get quite bitter. You're right, the natural 3rd party gets annoyed when the natural official opposition is in power. -

So let me get this straight... you aren't dis-agreeing with anything he said, just merely stating that the government won't fall because noone wants another election. If the Conservatives f*&$ up, then they get brought down, regardless of how soon the last election was. Thanks for coming out though. Been in power for less than a month, and Conservative arrogance is replacing Liberal arrogance. Great. -
I'm sorry, but that just contradicted what you said in an earlier post.. I'm straight, and I don't see what the big deal is, let people love who they love and get on with your life.

Whatever happened to ethical, accountable government?
uOttawaMan replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Your Welcome. Us conservative folks are just asses to everyone equally. Part of being conservative is an intense distrust of government. Who is in power doesn't really matter. Besides, who's going to hold my party to its promises if I don't? The Liberals, NDP or BQ? Hardly. The other parties and their supporters obviously don't want what I do from our government or they would have voted for them in the first place. Its up to conservatives to hold conservatives to their promises. Instead of a "natural governing party" sounds like a "natural official opposition" to meeee -

Harpe's entitled to his dragon Lolooolllolololololo -
Don't you get it? He's got his "own" ideas, and reporters don't, they're all morons, so just listen to him, he knows it all.
-
I'm just lol'ing away here.. so if Peter McKay switched to the Liberal party, would you use your own logic, saying that Peter McKay was elected, not the Conservative Party or would you be calling lack of ethics, etc etc. The more I read these forums, the more I lol.

Who are you to say people aren't coming up with their own viewpoints? Just because some people follow a certain line of thinking you don't like, doesn't mean you can flame them with reckless abandon and be like "GAWD WHY ARE YOU SO STUPID" and expect to be taken seriously.

Fortier to Public Works? Huh?
uOttawaMan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
One step at a time. Originally US senators were appointed by governors. Oregon decided to start electing them and eventually all other states followed. If Harper starts the ball rolling with elections it will eventually become impossible to reverse - constitutional admendment or not. And once that happens, there will be an effective higher chamber than Parliament, resulting in a complete change of our government, hell why dont we just hold a presidential election and get it over with. -
Cry more...

Yay for trying to take away people's democratic rights. Yeah, why don't we make Canada completely bi-partisan, eliminate the Bloc too, so we can have a stagnant minefield of a goverment like the US. Two parties = useless sack of crap.

Finding out how thats actually performed was the worst thing that the pro-choice movement could allow me to do. If you're going to tell the story, tell it all. First they induce delivery and deliver in breach with the baby's head still inside the mother. The baby's head is held in forceps, pierced with a scalpel and a vacuum inserted to suck the baby's brain from its head. Once the doctor completes that he crushes the baby's skull and finishes the delivery with the baby obviously stillborn. Tell me that's not the most inhumane thing one human has done to another. That's in a deadheat with the Holocaust.

I think Jack Layton should cross the floor and join the Conservatives. Make him Minister of Public Works.
