  1. Here's something I didn't expect to see, Muslim preachers in England coming out against the Taliban, and the practice of suicide bombing. It would be nice to see this actually happen and have peace loving Muslim leaders encouraging their people to love those that hate and be examples that Allah could show favour on.GuardianUK
  2. There have been so many billions disappear over the length of the Liberal rule that typical Canadians think that's the way it's supposed to be. They finally got sick of it, however, during the last election, and Adscam II could give Harper a majority.
  3. What? This study supports exactly what they have been saying all along, did you not read the whole thread? Al Gore and The Sierra Club will be taking this report to the masses and saying; "see we were right". Carbon Dioxide, as produced by humans, significantly impacts upon the environment causing global warming is now a fact because of this study. Environmentalists will be taking this study to the bank, as the study also shows is that carbon dioxide emissions have gone up at least 90PPM/32% increase or as much as 320PPM/ 200% increase since the advent of burning fossil fuels for industry and transportation. That is in a 100years as opposed to millions, or even 10's of thousands of years, that the study shows global warming has previously has taken in the Global history with just naturally occuring increases in Carbon Dioxide only. When this study is combined with others, it will show we will be in serious problems globally by 2050, if something is not done soon to decrease emissions globally. Water shortages will be world wide, countries will be gone because of rising oceans, economies will fail world wide. The Stern Report out of Britian detailed all of this, plus more. And that Report was based upon solid speculation, not the concrete proof this report makes. Though scientific speculation has long been close to what this study found. I read the whole article, and you are indeed doing what Gore and his wild eyed fear mongers will be doing, spin. The study finds that the earth has been cooling and warming for millions of years before we came along. That carbon dioxide is higher than during a warming trend 50 million years ago is up to debate, but the fact remains Canada could ban cars, factories and breathing and our contribution to the global situation would not matter one iota. But all of you that don't like the Tories will ignore level headed facts and whine about 2050 as if you've been brainwashed by Gore. Facts trump whine every time.
  4. He may be overrated, but he's got Hillary worried.
  5. Oh, Margrace, speaking of attacks, how about this one? With a baseball bat on Bush. Now, who's doing the attacking?
  6. This study is an eye opening revelation that will no doubt have proponents of Global Warming scrambling to come up with brand new 'studies' that are in direct disagreement with this one. Al Gore himself is probably leading the charge right now, hunkered down in a board room with heavy weights like the Sierra Club, unplugging the phones and faxes, strategizing on how to smear the authors of this particular study and so on.
  7. Riverwind, that's what I'm concerned about, third world countries and emerging economies like China. Countries like Canada have regulations so strict for cars and energy production already, then you have China, which has plans to build 40 new NUCLEAR REACTORS in the next 15 years, and those concerned with environmentalism in general simply ignore these huge issues and point at Canada as though we are the culprit.
  8. I'm glad you fellas are even headed, but watch out for the enviro whackos who will use this one day as a warning that the world will end in (fill in the blank) days. That's why I used the phrase - all of the data.
  9. So anyway, back to the global warming. Today, Saturday, in New York they had a record breaking day of 70 degrees F. No doubt this will provide environmental groups with plenty of ammo to pressure governments with. Except it happened already. 70 degree weather in New York, I mean. In 1932. Which is evidence that the earth goes through warming and cooling cycles when you look at ALL of the data. Of course this little tidbit of information will be ignored.
  10. Actually, this poll is in spite of canada being involved in an unpopular war, although a long stretch of high casualties would definitely affect things.
  11. These poll results are without any campaigning whatsoever. In a full blown campaign, they would do much better.
  12. What's this? Dems saying no to Bush? Gee, how newsworthy is that, kind of like Christmas is in December this year.
  13. Okay, hands up everyone who has posted on this thread who is a CBC employee! You guys should now realize that your viewers are a little more educated to the issues than you thought. Proceed with fairness and you will do fine. Proceed in the usual Mother Corp knows best attitude and you WILL lose viewers and get lots of complaints.
  14. Well, hopefully we can go ahead and move forward eventually to rescind all these backward judgements and evolve marriage to the point of 2 people of the opposite sex, others can go into the woods and make up whatever vows they please.
  15. The CBC does not broadcast on behalf of the government. CBC Mandate And if you think a sitcom is part of some diabolical re-education plot, I would sugest a hot bath and a stiff drink. Ah so they aren't prepatuating enough stereotypes. Gotcha. Also: it's a comedy, ferchrissakes. Do you find people blowing themselves up or treating women like shit to be the stuff of big laffs? the left always has difficulty in seeing left wing bias, just as the right does right wing bias. You are the former. The CBC is also supposed to preserve Canadian culture, not promote other cultures. Geez, you don't get it. The CBC is willing to perpetuate red neck stereotypes, but at the same time champion Muslim culture. That is what is troubling.
  16. And when they do watch how quickly the CBC hacks here jump on you rather than dealing with your legitimate criticism. What criticism? So far the two of you have made sweeping assertions about a show based on nothing but a few seconds of clips, and on a selective interpretation of those clips at that. The fact that you continue to ignore valid points and simply repeat your paranoid mantra shows that you're not interested in debate in the least, and purely in propogating your simplistic anti-CBC bias, no matter how stupid you look in the process. Get over yourself. I base my assertions not only on the clips( come on, the one that shows a white guy pointing out to the muslim woman that it wouldn't hurt to show a little cleavage is so off the radar of reality it's pathetic), but also on a several minute long promo of the show with interviews of the actors and such and their comments. And perhaps you should reread my previous post in which I clearly state we haven't seen proof yet, but teasers only.
  17. But perhaps a little more thought would help the insight, and would helpdraw some actual truth out? Have you ever given any thought to the fact that the other Arab nations, that have the money and power, do not help Palistinians because they are buddies with the USA. Its a case of your friend is my friend. Do you ever give any thought to the fact that other British Colonial nations do not give help by building factories etc for their brothers and sisters from other British Colonial Nations who may need it? They don't do it so why should Arab nations do it? Do you really think ALL Arabs hate ALL Jews? If so, you need to revise that opinion too. You believe Palestinians are buddies with the U.S.A?? The British are an apple/orange comparison. Palestine was not a colony of anybody. EDIT: It appears you may have meant that the Arab nations are buddies with the U.S. Also not true...
  18. Yes, but tell it to figleaf. And aren't they an arm of the Iranian army? It may have started with kidnapping, but why do you think they would do such a provocative thing? They knew what Israel's response would be over time. In a game of chess, you think several moves in advance, and Hezbolah wanted to start something. Why?
  19. I have an issue with the CBC doing this with public money as well. It has nothing to do with the amount per se. Since they broadcast in the name of our government, they are not to take sides in an issue, but to treat all sides fairly. What I object to is the effort to take one side of an issue and 'educate' the public. If this is what they do(and we haven't seen proof yet, but with the teasers they are broadcasting it seems they are at least testing the waters), then it will only be the latest in a long line of items in which the CBC has attempted to 'educate' from the left wing. I predict they will hide the controversial side of Muslim culture which includes women as property with few rights, hatred for the western lifestyle, hatred of gays and hatred of Jews. Meanwhile it will be open season on Canadian prairie folk.
  20. What Israel did was a huge sacrifice for its citizens in an effort for peace. And the repsonse was for Hezbolah to start a mini war, in Palestine's name. How sickening. And we all know they fired their missiles from Hospitals, mosques, and residential areas, forcing the patients, worshippers and others to stay in place waiting for the inevitable response, all so they could then march the bleeding bodies in front of the westen media. If you want to be precise, Hezbolah's war was completely unneeded, and only done in an effort to neutralize Israel's good gesture.
  21. Oh, but we do need government intervention on legal definitions of the foundational components of our society. At least that's what gays and poyligamists and others want. They want new definitions that include them. Then other groups will be emboldened to lobby for changes favourable to them. It never ends once you start. And with left kook judges scrutinizing everything not with a legal compass, but with activism based on whether the person in question FEELS somehow wronged, there is no doubt that the definition of marriage will continue to broaden. Meanwhile, my wife and I may recant our marriage vows and go into the woods somewhere and make our own private vows with our own definitions, hoping that some actiivist doesn't get wind of it and sue us for wrongful uninclusiveness. Because the present marriage contract is worth less and less. This new ruling, whether it meant to or not, has given new traction to legalizing the poyligamist relationship. Broadening the definition of parent so the second mother can feel better about her gay issues only makes it closer to the multi partner thing.
  22. As soon as Baird was appointed, Dion foot soldiers began digging through his past, looking for enviro dirt on the guy. What does he drive? Has he ever voted on anything with an environment angle on it? Has he ever said anything that could be misconstrued into hate for the environment? Does he eat babies?... The Liberals need to win on this issue because it's one of the few issues that Dion can get traction with right off the bat. Although naming your dog Kyoto seems a little unbalanced to me. The Tories are doing the right thing by making it a priority. Now they need to deliver.
  23. Israel gave a chunk of their country in the last year. With houses and such on it. This was followed by Hezbolah starting a mini war. I shudder to think what would happen if Israel started industry in Palestine. B.C. chick, this may fall on deaf years, but Jimmy Carter is the mastermind behind North Korea signing a treaty with the U.S. around '95. Of course they took the money offered, ignored the treaty and developed Nuclear Weapons. Jimmy has no reputation left on which to solve the middle east problem. Calling it apartheid is an insult to South Africans who lived under that barbaric system.
  24. I mean 'brothers' in a generic sense, the way people band together when they have a common enemy. BTW, Jews in Isael and Toronto can have a bond, but some wouldn't. Without repeating myself, I thought you'd draw the conclusion that Arab nations won't help Palestine so Palestine hurts more. This puts more pressure on Israel, their common enemy. If they helped Palestine, built factories and industries that ran on no doubt cheap labour, they could get Palestine out of poverty and give them hope for the future. Instead they are only taught to hate the Jew. Hasn't Arafat refered to them as his people, not of race, but as a leader serves his people?
  25. More question begging: if a viable Canadian television production industry is not a basic social need, why should the government subsidize it? I noticed you would like a reponse to your query. You make assumptions that others do not. You speak of a viable Canadian production company, the CBC. Something that is viable can support itself and be profitable. The CBC can do neither without the government handouts. This is partly because on many parts of their schedules, they do not even attempt to meet the demands in the marketplace. In the guise of championing Canadian Culture, they promote leftwing dogma. This new show could well be more of the same. The government should not subsidize it period.
