Happy Thanksgiving
CouchPotato replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Pretty similar stuff. We have turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, bread crumb dressing, pumpkin pie, etc. I love pumpkin pie. I have pumpkin pie on my birthday instead of cake. I think when I was a kid we always had the choice between turkey, duck and goose at the table, because I live in a rural area and people hunt. We had turkey, duck and goose and Christmas, too. -

Happy Thanksgiving to all the American posters!! -
See, I think this is a big reason why Trump is so maddening for them. It's not that Trump was any further to the right. It's that Trump didn't cave to the labels. The left had this tactic of portraying conservatives as far right, fascist, racists, etc. Instead of dismissing it, Republicans would go on the defensive. It made them look weak. And even if they won power they were scared to do anything in case someone interpreted it as racist. So it gave Democrats a certain amount of power. It's like an adolescent who knows they can get their way by calling their parents unfair or uncool. Trump stood firm instead of caving.

OK, so you immediately dismiss the opinion of a man who has worked in border patrol for years and also has been an acting director of ice, and then you make an infantile comparison to Nazism. But Americans should take your word for it about who is crossing their border. It's all good guys. DUI_Offender says it's mainly Indians looking for work. It's not like terrorists would ever think to exploit that situation. Nothing to see here.

Tom Homan responds to Denver mayor: 'He's willing to go to jail, I'm willing to put him in jail' https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/tom-homan-responds-to-denver-mayor-he-s-willing-to-go-to-jail-i-m-willing-to-put-him-in-jail/ar-AA1uMKPT Pretty simple. You break the law or obstruct those enforcing the law, you go to jail.

Maybe that's why he paired him up with Vivek. He is hooking them up. Like a play date. -
Programs threatened by DOGE

It's seems like Elon wants to be very buddy buddy with him, and because he has trouble reading social cues it can end up being kind of awkward. Trump is almost 80, and Elon is kinda youthful and a tech nerd on the spectrum. He probably has no idea what Elon is saying half the time. -

I could easily see Trump becoming annoyed with Elon. -
To be fair though, unless you watch The Five and you just read about something Jesse Watters says you might not really get it. Or even if you just aren't used to people who talk and joke around like that. I don't know if it's necessarily a conservative thing. I wouldn't even say it's a guy thing because I know girls who joke the same way. But it's definitely some kind of cultural thing, and some people just don't know how to read it. Before the election, Jesse Watters said on The Five something like "scientists have proven that men who vote for women begin to transition into women themselves". That's a loose quote. A day or so later I saw an article on line about it. The author was basically saying that Jesse made startling claims about men who vote for women. The author then very seriously went on to say that Watters failed to cite these scientists.

They talk about political news but they shoot the breeze and joke like friends at a bar while doing so. It's a combination of entertainment and punditry. The jokes may not always be funny but once again what he said is no more degrading than saying, "If I found out so-and-so was Bruins fan, I'd blah blah. That's just utter sacrilege." If you think that is degrading perhaps you take life too seriously. As for responsibility to his large audience, people who watch that show know exactly what it is about. It's five people sitting around discussing stuff and they aren't always serious. Yeah, they are conservative pundits. It's not the news hour.

Have you ever watched Jesse Watters or The Five? They joke around a lot. Do you think he really thinks his wife voting for Kamala would violate the sanctity of marriage? Does the extremity of the language not give you a hint at all? Imagine you heard someone say, "If I found out my wife is a Yankees fan, that's it. It's over Sue. That violates the sanctity of marriage." Would you think that person would seriously divorce her?

Really now? Were they more controlling this year than ever? Obama had 56% of women in his first term. 55% of women in his second. 54% of women voted for Hillary. 55% for Biden. 53% for Harris. Trump made inroads among minority groups as well. Was someone forcing them to vote differently? Maybe they didn't realize they could secretly vote for Harris because the Democrats didn't make an ad informing them of this.

So just for clarification here... Do you think the Democrats put out this ad as sort of a nice public service message for women who happen to be in abusive relationships to let them know that, because their husbands aren't actually in the voting booth with them, they could vote for whoever they like without them knowing, because they would have never figured this out on their own? or Do you think the Democrats put out this ad because they weren't leading as much among women as usual and in their minds they actually think a major reason for this is that there is a widespread problem of conservative men telling their women who to vote for?
