  1. The CNN, CTV, MSM is the default for types like him. I can lay out in excruciating detail how we get the LAUS and CES data but apparently I get all of that from CNN.
  2. "seem to"... that is code for, "I do not know but I can't just say that so I will fill in the blanks" well, glad that you can ask and not make assumptions.. I guess there is a first for everything. I will make it short and succinct.. it depends on the topic. If it is economic, labor market, etc then I mine the raw data that I either use or produce. Without doxing myself, I have been the primary processor for the unemployment, jobs, and unemployment insurance for the state of Nevada for 7 years.. So no need to look at articles where someone interprets the numbers for me. When it comes to items not in the prior.. I mostly get it from the WSJ, The economist, word of mouth, life experience, or academic journal articles if such a thing exists. Obviously, no one source is perfect so it is mostly a matter of reading x, reading y, reading z, and giving myself time to take it all in and formulate my own view. And believe it or not.. I do not care deeply about every topic. There are 3 topics that do not get my meter buzzing.. abortion, climate change, and covid.
  3. probably. WCM, I admire his passion but his incessant assuming makes any and all attempts at rational discussion pointless.
  4. Distressing.. more exaggerating. You should be a politician.. seriously. I work with them on occasion and they all have this predisposition to make mountains out of molehills. One disagreement and they are suddenly being attacked by the masses.. and yet it was one person who spoke up and in a very civil tone said that they disagreed.
  5. used to think that everyone genuinely believed what they wrote.. after long enough, you realize that they are mostly disingenuous and just trying to get a reaction out of you. Also, is it complaining to simply state the lay of the land. To go outside and say it is 76 and sunny... is that complaining about the heat? To cut you off at the pass.. I post as a way to pass the time when executing long, complex computer scripts. change x to y, run it.. and then wait.
  6. Been doing this for over a decade so not my first rodeo. Have had plenty of time to get jaded.
  7. do you know where I get my news/information from? If you are of any character.. you will simply say, "no". Why? because you have never asked and therefore have no actual evidence to draw from. Try not assuming for once.
  8. Back to the topic, This forum and most others struggle to get new posters and to keep them. There is nothing new to this place. Every forum that I have ever posted on has a small but dedicated group of regulars. Usually the common bond is disliking one another. Newcomers usually are not privy to the back story that pervades the posts and so they lose interest.
  9. Not letting a stranger get me all flustered when in all honesty... they do not care is admirable.
  10. "moral panic".. this sounds like standard operating procedure in politics and political parties. This is just the flavor of the week/month/year
  11. Back to your old stand-by... assumptions. In past "discussions", I laid out that that I do not watch network TV therefore not CNN. Did you forget this? This is not my first rodeo with types like you. And if you are so rational.. why use this phrase "whiny, dodgy little fella with nothing to add.".. this is straight out of middle school
  12. Well, keep exaggerating. I will not stop you. Getting pretty worked are you not? my blood pressure has not went in the slightest.
  13. making homelessness a crime would be a logistical nightmare and overly expensive. One can be homeless and not be committing a crime such as drug use, trafficking, manufacturing, violent crimes, etc. Yes, every city has statutes about loitering, vagrancy, or living on public land but those are pretty tame stuff. It is not enabling by acknowledging the legal and practical manifestations of such a policy.
  14. I do not have the time to tear into academic literature but my guess is that this 2% number is a bit high. Politics is all about exaggeration. The right claims that the trans narrative is alive and well in every school in America. There is no central database so the best that we can do is estimate or guess. I would estimate that only 1% of schools have any kind of explicit/ongoing programs on this. I have school aged children and am very involved. There is zero mention of it or at least as of yet.
  15. You are assuming that I am actually debating you and care what you say. . I think I have made myself quite succinct and clear on this topic.
  16. Vent... wow, more exaggeration. At least, you have one talent.
  17. Just objectively pointing out that some are trolls but should be free to be so.
  18. my point is that it is expensive not due to some deliberate action on the behalf of a politician. It is mostly supply and demand. The secondary result is that you get more homeless due to this increased cost. the idea that more liberal policies leads to homelessness is silly. Now, they may not be as punitive after the fact but the root cause is not political
  19. You are looking at this in the macro. in the micro.. what jobs does someone who is homeless do? Answer.. janitorial, restaurant, retail. All of these are low paying and will not enable you to afford even the most modest of apartments in SF. Having been homeless once.. I find that the homeless are composed as such 60% - mentally ill and most likely self medicating with drugs and alcohol 10% - mentally ill and mostly sober 15% - hard luck types that simply were hanging on the past but a bad break put them over the edge 25% - deliberately homeless for a variety of reasons. Some want to not work, some want a "simpler" life, and some want to be off the social radar.
  20. Yes. On the other side, I think that the left overstates the number of trans people. I am very open minded being as I have some strange hobbies and do not want someone judging me without knowing the full story. However, I have only observed/met a dozen trans people in real life.
  21. I try to be as such. Most of the time.. I do not let folks get under my skin. Everyone's resolve weakens from time to time. I see his posts as being mostly troll-ish. Very impassioned, biased, and opinionated.. and done so deliberately in order to elicit an impassioned response.
  22. I looked at your links and they do not illustrate your point. I think that you are jumping to conclusions a bit.
  23. I have an "allergy" to hyperbole. However, I find that both sides use it. Its the only way to get some one to pay attention. If you are too mellow, objective, balanced.. your reader falls asleep or scrolls by.
