  1. Well at this point i think it's mostly for political power. The gov'ts are worried that people struggling will be blamed on them (probably true) so they're spending the money to look like the heros and push the problem down the road. But as we can see that's a fairly short road. The "good" news is we will likely fall into a world recession, and that should help a little with inflation.
  2. Well, it's a valid concern. I don't know that it's a BIGGER concern than all the OTHER problems caused by the war - a craptonne of people will get sick or die because of the war and that's just the way it is. And that will go on for a long time after the conflict ends, DU shells or not. War is really bad. And that's just the truth if we blame the Russians or the Ukrainians or nato or whatever. And in a war both sides are going to tend to use the tools available to try to win.
  3. https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/canada-annual-inflation-rate-rises-124041246.html So... here's what's going on. Inflation went up as high as it did because the gov't dumped a buttload of money into the economy in unearned dollars. Arguably some of that was necessary due to covid but that's neither here nor there - that's what happened. As ALWAYS - that shoots inflation up. Which it did. So - in response the BoC tries to suck some of that money back out of the economy to cool it. They do that by increasing interest rates. ANd that will bring down inflation for the most part. At least down to a manageable level if not precisely to target. BUT - MANY gov'ts including the feds are responding to this BY DUMPING MORE MONEY BACK INTO THE ECONOMY IN UNEARNED DOLLARS!!!! When you send people 'relief cheques' - that makes inflation worse!! All those 'renatal assistance cheques just drive up the costs SO you've got the bank stomping on the breaks and you've got the feds and some of the provincial gov'ts stomping on the gas. This is going to be a disaster.
  4. The urge to post a bunch of jokes about how i've known a few girls like that is almost overwhelming
  5. Well usually the guy who hauls off the blown up tank it's stuck in There's no direct risk of excessive radiation. There IS a short term risk of the dust. Obviously a high speed super hard object smashing into another super hard object (remembering that tank armour isn't just steel anymore) is going to produce a certain amount of dust, and that is radio acvite enough that if you inhale it then it can have a very negative affect on a person. Eventually it rains and that's all gone but while you're wrong to think ti's just some sort of general hazard for ever you're not wrong to say it does have some negative affect. But so do regular bombs and such - put it this way, no matter what more citizens will be dead in Ukraine from Russian missiles than british DU rounds. That would be interesting to know. Obviously we're told that determination is high and they're all for continuing till victory but it's not like they're going to report anything else. They're not exactly holding large scale demonstrations against it or the like so i guess there's still at least modest support, but who can say?
  6. It's not her first foray into poltiics, we do have a track record to look at and it's not great. I may not have agreed with Jack's politics but the man got things done, AND he was willing to get in there and live as he preached. But Chow just doesn't have what it takes. she has the connections to get elected but not the skills to do the job.
  7. well they've been around since the 80's as i recall, certainlly used in the 90's. And russia has them too btw. Everyone developed them, they're very very very effective against other tanks. The other material you sometimes see used is tungsten. But they're ONLY good for fighting other tanks, there's no explosive in them or anything. So it's not like they'll be shelling cities with them or the like. And i think you'll find that the "toys" probably weren't in the capital. I mean they know the russians regularly shell the city. I don't think you'll convince the Ukrainians of that right now. They're geared up and armoured up and trained up for their big offensive. I don't think they'll consider peace talks till that's over. If it goes well it would put them in a much much stronger position for negotiations. IF it fails they're not much worse off than they are now. For them there's no benefit to starting talks right now until they see how their offensive goes.
  8. Well pretty red tory one might say And toronto is demonstrably not naturally conservative at all. Federally for example the conservatives have struggled inside toronto itself. But, hopefully you're right and they'll give her a pass despite the polling. Her husband was an amazing politician but she is not.
  9. Dude - come on. Those aren't "bombs". those are anti tank penetrator rounds - they use depleated uranium because its heavier and harder than lead. THey put a very thin 40mm rod of the stuff in a sabot and shoot it out of a tank barrel to kill other tanks. It's been used for years - the us used it extensively in all of it's conflicts where it faced other tanks. NOBODY is going to care if they're used now - putin may posture for his people but this is just a standard anti tank round that everyone uses.
  10. https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/poilievre-more-competent-than-trudeau-national-poll Some highlights: Just 27 per cent believe Trudeau has good judgment, compared with 45 per cent for Poilievre Forty-eight per cent of voters agreed that Poilievre is a competent leader, compared with 42 per cent for Trudeau. But when respondents were asked whether Trudeau and Poilievre hide their true views to make them more acceptable, the difference was huge: 56 per cent believe Trudeau does, and only 40 per cent think Poilievre does. Trudeau scored higher in 'kindness'. So - PP has been slowly but steadily climbing in all the important metrics for Many months now. People are becoming more and more comfortable with him and less and less comfortable with justin. At the current rate, in less than 12 months he'll be solidly in majority territory with room to spare.
  11. What time is it right now? Add 4 minutes. Unlike her late husband she's really not a good leader or good at the job. Toronto will sink a little further during her time. But it's literally what they asked for unless they come to their senses pretty quick
  12. Yes yes, the battlecry of every leftie when someone posts facts they don't like. Well actually i didn't say that, and i tried to point that out to you. I said that whether a deficit is good or bad depends entirely on the circumstance - obama doing something day one would be bad, obama doing something to deal with a serious recession is different. And you know that's true. So - seeing as you can't argue that you've tried to lie and turn it into whether or not he LITERALLY increased spending day one. The truth is he DID increase spending during his first 100 days so it would still be fair to say he did it as soon as he got into office but that really wasn't what i was talking about. THEN you come up with some fluff about how i said he increased deficits while he was in office - which i absolutely never even mentioned. Sorry kid - you'd be the troll here. He did inherit a recession (caused directly by the democrats it's worth noting, seeing as you're so fond of being partisan :)) Nobody blamed him for the recession. Nobody said anyting about it being his fault or the like. This is what makes you so dishonest. The point was you cannot say "deficit good" or "Deficit bad". If obama just decides to increase spending then bad. If he's increasing it to address the problems of a recession then good. That's all i said. The rest is just the voices in your head
  13. Men should have a say in what happens = I only care about the child's life till it's born. Riiiiiight. When you get a moment google 'logic'. And it kind of sounds like you don't care about children's lives at all, born or unborn. We shouldn't help the child or the mother at all after birth because she had the choice to kill it? Sorry - men absolutely do have a right to have a say in abortion and whether there's abortion.
  14. But you're not a man of your word. We've already established that. And shortly after you picked this fight you've been hiding, so blaming me for the fact you don't come on line any more is hardly fair. You're a drunk, you're a jew hater and you're a liar. And you picked a fight you can't win because you got drunk one night and got mad over something which was already proven to be true and now you can't deal with it. Pathetic.
  15. OH noes - someone typed a lot on the internet Sure - i talked to lots of people today, Where as you were 100 percent fixated on me. And my big crime - i type too much. On an internet forum LOLOL Oh and what was your other complaint when i first got here? Ahhh yes - I post too many articles about trudeau. The canadian prime mininster. In a canadian politics forum. Clearly i'm a monster Do you hear how pathetic you sound? Ahhh yes - you do pick up AA's bad habits and word of the day calendar Projection! Deflection! GET BACK HERE WITH THOSE GOALPOSTS! The same crap that means the same thing - you know you're in the wrong and have nothing intelligent to say. What a joke. Can't you lefties at least mix it up a bit once in a while? Any moment you'll start posting memes Kid - all you've done here is show the entire board you're a scared little man who is intimidated by his betters - like a little chihuahua yapping at the big does from behind a fence. Nighty night kiddo - i'll still be here tomorrow interacting with lots of people, while you'll still be angry and intimidated by your betters
  16. IT will be interesting to see if this pans out - modelling elections is becoming an art and there's a few outrageously successful model methods out there. https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/braid-pollster-says-ucp-in-lead-over-ndp Brown cautions that this is a result from her model, not a prediction. But she has been bang-on before, most recently in the 2019 election. The real shocker in this poll is the Calgary finding: 51 per cent support for the UCP, 39 per cent NDP. If that’s the case on May 29, it’s over already. Edmonton remains rock-solid for the NDP, with 57 per cent support compared to 36 per cent for the UCP. But the rest of the province outside the big metro areas is tilted even more heavily to the UCP — 61 per cent, and only 26 per cent for the New Democrats. All this runs against other polls which show a much tighter race, as well as the public narrative of Smith being in deep trouble because of her past comments and the support of Take Back Alberta.
  17. So this happened: I wonder if any of the candidates have a mental health platform?
  18. I tend to treat people as i get treated. And at the end of the day, it's not about smarts. A very average person can still put together a decent coherent argument with a little training, if they don't that's probaby not because they're not smart but because they don't have the training they need to make a strong argument. But - as we see - look at who's attacking me today trying to claim that they're not bitter and upset that i made good arguments they couldn't refute. Moonbox, treebeard, you - lefties who obviously don't appreciate having been shown up. Moonbox fancies himself an intellect and he's just not - but he's slightly better trained that some of the people he chooses to debate. Treebeards the same. So - when they run into someone who can put together a better argument they become hostile and angry and act badly. Look at Moonbox - this guy is so obsessed with me he's foaming at the mouth and why? I type too much for his liking. I talk with several people here who are of a different mindset and we get along pretty good. But I can't do anything about angry !diots who behave like asswipes and then blame others for their own inability to cope with their emotions.
  19. LOL - it's interesting that the people who can't make a coherent argument are the ones following me around like this - as if somehow you can't avoid a post In the way? What - you tripped and accidentally fell on my post and couldn't help but read it? My how clumsy
  20. And what are you accomplishing by making me the complete focus of your attention exactly? LOL - you're completely obsessed and spent all day posting at me about typing too much for you but I'm the one with questionable behavior
  21. What kind of absolute bullshit is that - holy crap kid . You weren't part of the discussion - you didn't "bump into me", you CHOSE to attack me out of the blue for no reason. And then you've spent, what - like 10 posts crying like a baby claiming that YOUR behavior is my fault because i type too much for you. My Keyboard made you do it! And after that massive effort you're trying to convince me that you're NOT obsessed and emotionally damaged? How many other posts have you made today? Like one or two? I'm basically your WHOLE DAY. Because i type too much for you. In a discussion you weren't even a part of. Kid - i obviously live rent free in your head. It is PAINFULLY obvious that you're angry and frustrated that you can't win a discussion with me and this is how you lash out. Try 6 or 7 more posts telling me how you're not frustrated and dejected That'll REALLY prove it I've obviously emotionally damaged you. Sorry about that, but i'm afraid you'll have to get REAL therapy if you want to feel better.
  22. ROFLMAO Yeah - no mental health issues there at all Keep going kiddo!
  23. So if it's no big deal - why not just put it back if that's what people want? Whats' the big deal? Why even change it if no one even notices it. I mean, it's not like we commemorate things on our currency or stamps or anything right? Why make a fuss here?
  24. Well if it's about the Liberal gov't having grossly inappropriate and possibly illegal ties to china, Then we can just put it on the ever growing pile.
