  1. Well, recession maybe. Depression might be stretching it - but then again there's no really solid definition so many economists might well agree with you.
  2. Sure it will. There's a segment out there that really feels that the liberals and their supporters have been slagging canada, and someone saying 'the history of canada is worthy" will strongly appeal to them. Even ones who only feel that a little bit will appreciate that and that's a larger group than you might think. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/two-thirds-of-canadians-proud-of-countrys-history-despite-injustices-against-indigenous-people-poll so without a doubt an appeal to the better parts of our history AND to the depth of that history after years of hearing nothing but bad things will be a welcome message. It won't win an election - but it's certainly a step in the right direction.
  3. Well they can if they believe their gov't will be out of power and the next gov't will have to clean up the mess, and then they can roll back into power when that gov't is hated by everyone for doing what was necessary. Now the next gov't will likely try to prevent it spiraling into depression but they may or may not be successful. Certainly not implausible. At some point high inflation has to break the economy and then there's a reset.
  4. True. But if that were to be the NEXT gov's problem to deal with.... Politics is often not about what's in the best interests of the people.
  5. I absolutely guarantee you that i know a bunch of people i would love to brainwash into keeping their mouths shut more often But joking aside again all one can do is be the example and be kind to those who don't know and ignore the rantings of the rabid.
  6. Well i guess all you can do is light a candle rather than curse the darkness. I'm sure lots of people don't have an issue with someone admitting theyr'e not an expert.
  7. Well we've seen inflation drive interest rates above 20 before in our lifetimes. And the stagflation that followed. I think we're a year or three away from the bank hitting it's target range again. There will be a recession and that will help.
  8. The 'pretty sure' was actually sarcasm. Sorry - i forgot you've got no sense of humour and a lackluster understanding of complex language.
  9. No - i could be entirely average and still be smarter than stupid And if thats the measure then Moonbox has nothing to complain about - go check the number of times he uses the phrase 'I thought you were smarter than that ' He insinuates people are stupid vastly more than i do. Sure kiddo I have to be in order to put up with all the shit from people like you If it makes you feel better - moon box is smarter than you as well. Which really isn't saying much.
  10. So your'e suggesting a hybrid ownership (not hybrid cars) where a family or couple has one ice and one ev and uses each at the appropriate time. I could see that solving a number of issues.
  11. The right to vote for starters, but i'm pretty sure it does grant sovereignty as well.
  12. I think you must be some sort of marketing genius - i think you could make it fly if you put it that way
  13. Hold on -i thought my response was pretty even tempered! I only called him a heratic once!
  14. Yeah, better than 2 million for a detatched But also there's population density issues, and we can bill more townhomes and apartments faster. and sadly - i think 800 is going to look like a steal in 3 years. When there's not enough supply to meet demand - people pay more and the people who can't get left out. we'll see more people unable to rent or own, kids won't leave their parents till they're around 50 if ever, nobody will be able to have their 'own' place anymore. And then things get ugly.
  15. There isn't a lot of them. Most conservatives aren't religious fanatics and most of the ones who believe there should be some restrictions on abortion don't come at it from a strictly religious place. I'm not religious (well - i keep putting 'jedi' on my census paperwork but that's more ceremonial). But i do have issues with unrestricted abortion rights that extend to the birth of the child. For me it's a simple question - when does the fetus become a 'human being'? At that point human rights should attach and we don't kill humans just because they're not convenient. ( a policy many of my clients have benefited from ) There's arguments from conception to shorly before they take their college entrance exams, but for me there's a reasonable practical answer. We consider people to be 'dead' when their brain shuts down and stops completely. Not when the heart stops, but when the brain does. THat's when a person is dead. And i don't mean in a coma - the brain is still doing work there, just not much. Even if we could keep a body alive with no brain , i think everyone would agree it's not a person any more. Everythnig that makes them a unique person is gone. So - if when the brain stops we call it death, then logically when the brain starts we should call it 'life'. I believe that happens around week 15, the brain kicks in and starts actually doing things like regulating heart beat etc. Not just a random neuron firing but actual computing. So i'm cool with abortions till about week 15 (16? can't remember). After that it's not the woman's choice any more because murder is bad and we don't murder children no matter how tempting it may be. Before that - it's a lump of flesh it should be up to the woman. My take on it anyway.
  16. I do seem to recall my biology classes suggesting that the male DID IN FACT have SOMETHING to do with pregnancies....
  17. LOL - oh no, we're you feeling left out again? Following me around like a puppy to immitate your friend? More of an example of how YOU aren't the "combative" one? LOL!!!! I take it you're still angry from the last post where i pointed out your hypocrisy of attacking someone out of the blue to say they shoudn't attack people? LOL! There's generally no need for me to 'declare victory', it's usually pretty obvious An excellent sign is when you or AA break out the memes in desperation Always a bit of an admission of failure on your part. But Sure - i get you need to lie about it right now. You're feeling a little threatened because you've been shown up, you are angry that someone successfully challenges you when you're wrong, and lets face it, you're a bit of an ass. So if it makes you feel better to slink around after me like gollum stalking frodo telling lies and occasionally demanding your precious then you go ahead
  18. Sometimes. I think that usually between the two people they know who made their points better and honestly i don't think anyone else is watching in most cases.
  19. Who knows. IT's not like they all talk and know everything each other is working on. It was published shortly after the information was made public so it may be that the others just were a little slower to verify. Well first it went to the FBI and the Post article was 3 weeks before the election. But - remember that while they had some of the data they didn't have the actual laptop. So 'verification' would have been with the shop owner and they had his contact info. Eventually that IS how it got verified and the information released was proven accurate. Like how? It got released to the media and the fbi, what more were they going to do? Well that'll be a matter for the courts. But - without a doubt this was an issue that the public should have known about before the election. And the PUBLIC could decide if the concerns were relevant or not. If the public felt it was too fishy to take the risk then they could decide that. If they decided it wasn't a huge deal then fine. He had denied that ever happened tho, and if those ties were still in place then that was also a big problem. Again - something for the public to decide if it's concerning enough. My whole thing tho is that there was a very dedicated effort to make sure the public did NOT think about this during the election. An active campaign to prevent information from getting out there is misinformation in my books. Does it rise to the level of "cheating"? - Well that's a debate in and of itself but there's no doubt that a sound argument could be put forward that it was, even if there are sound counter arguments. NO!!!! NO INDULGENCE!!!! YOU DIE NOW HERETIC!!!!! Ahem. My deepest apologies, i appear to have been momentarily possessed by Steve Bannon. It's my fault - i drank decaffeinated coffee today and that's when the evil spirits come for you....
  20. Unless our population starts to decrease there isn't going to be any entrophy. We're falling further and further behind.
  21. True. If we're going to build enough it'll be townhomes and apartments. and even those are getting tough to afford as you note.
  22. https://www.castanet.net/news/Canada/426788/Alberta-election-campaign-enters-third-week-leaders-to-debate-Thursday Alberta's election campaign is entering its third week, with the leaders of the United Conservatives and the NDP set to face each other in a debate on Thursday. Both parties made announcements on health care over the weekend, with NDP Leader Rachel Notley promising to offer bonuses of up to $10,000 to attract doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals to Alberta. Notley also pledged an NDP government will create up to 10,000 new post-secondary spaces specific to the health field and others over the next three years. UCP Leader Danielle Smith, meanwhile, pledged to fund a review by Alberta Health Services to determine whether five additional diseases and conditions should be added to a list of 22 conditions newborns are automatically scanned for at birth. She also promised to provide additional funding for testing, educational supports and programs for children with autism and other disabilities, and said that doctors, midwives, and nurses will be eligible for the UCP’s recently announced Alberta is Calling Signing Bonus and Graduate Retention Tax Credit. Seriously - this is turning into a major yawnfest. Nobody's going to get excited over either of those announcements. I can only assume they're either a) utterly incompetent or b) keeping their powder dry until the debates - hoping to win the debate and then ride the momentum with a bunch of new announcements that won't put people to sleep.
  23. irrelevant. This problem existed for decades and has steadily been getting worse. And the high costs and inflation of a new home isn't in the home - it's in the land. Even if new home building costs fell to half what they are now - it woudln't make a difference. They simply aren't building enough and they havent' for over a decade. I would argue 2 decades really, starting around 2000. But for a minimum of one. Not only are we not building enough homes but the way our systems are right now it's structured so that we never will - building will ALWAYS lag need because of the processes involved. So unless something radically changes housing prices will continue to go up
  24. ROFLMAO - i say I've never claimed i'm particularly or unusually smart and you waste your time despertately trying to dig up something and the best you can come up with is where i'm jokingly saying to some one i'm smarter than THEY are (and suggesting i may not be the only one ) dude that's pathetic I never claimed you DID use those words. Those were the words I used. - holy shit kid, did you forget what you were replying to? I said those words - you claimed i was wrong by posting a bunch of stuff that wasn't actually what i said. Holy short term memory issues batman. (now he's going to claim i constantly say i have a better memory ) The fact is i dont. In all your searching out of over 3 thousand posts you found a few times that i laughed at someone saying i was smarter than them (and that the rest of the world was too in a few of those cases). So the fact is you're just not being honest. You jumped on here to attack me because you feel threatened by me because you 'lost' a number of discussions. I don't trumpet that, i don't 'constantly' say i'm smarter than you or even boast about it. If someone says i'm dumb i'll reply that i'm smarter than they are Sorry you've got your panties in a knot because you frequently come across looking foolish when we debate - but if you go back you'll notice that the vast majority of the time you're the one who gets insulting first, usually when you can't make your point. I just tend to make my points and i'm better than you at being insulting back Was that too long for you? I know it upsets you if you have to read for more than a few seconds.
  25. Nope. Sorry bud, but it's got nothing to do with that. The only part that was accurate was the too few homes part. It's as simple as this - for well over a decade we have not been building enough homes to match our increases in population. We've fallen short by about 100,000 homes per year. For ages now. So at this point we're about a million homes short of what we need for our population. And the population is rising. And trudeau wants it to rise faster. And home construction is actually going down at the moment and wasn't enough before. That's what's leading to the prices going back up even tho interest rates have. People sat on the sidelines while interest rates were climbing , but now they're jumping back in because rents are insane and they're worried if prices go up further they'll never own. And this price increase drives rents up too. The ONLY solution is to build massively more homes for a sustained period.
