It is the very textbook definition of violating the First Amendment: “You say something which displeases the Government, and the Government retaliates against you by using its power to harm you.” This is exactly why we have a First Amendment. So yes, the adjective “fascist” applies, not the noun. These are all acts of state-sponsored censorship intended to persecute and disenfranchise minority groups. Personally, I cannot understand it: “Here you are, you are the most powerful person in the state. What will you choose to do?” “Why, I’ll persecute homosexuals and black people, of course. The motive was Donald Trump himself, who falsely claimed that his election was “stolen,” who told his followers to come to Washington on Jan 6, and who encouraged them to March to the Capitol and “Stop the Steal.” And, by the way, they did march peacefully to the Capitol. There was no violence on the March to the Capitol. They peacefully marched and THEN they tried to “Stop the steal,” just as Trump had commanded them to do.
