We already do on almost everything. Why shouldn’t we on electric cars?

Trudeau was unpopular. Unfortunately for the Conservatives, so is Poilievre. Once there was a reasonable alternative to Trudeau that wasn’t Poilievre (Carney), a significant block of voters chose Carney. Trump was also a factor. Canadians didn’t trust Poilievre could or would stand up for Canada against Trump.

Alberta has no inherent right to Canadian soil, including Canadian oil in that soil. Canada gave Alberta jurisdiction over certain things, like resources, as a province of Canada. https://williamgairdner.ca/does-any-province-of-canada-have-a-right-to-separate/ The land-area now controlled by Alberta was recognized as falling under Alberta jurisdiction as a province of Canada, and not as a separate country. […] Canada’s own Supreme Court, after the last Quebec debacle, issued an opinion that a UDI is not possible in Canada. To wit: “the Constitution does not permit unilateral secession: Canada is a federal state based on constitutional government – and subject to the rule of law. The courts have a duty to uphold that Constitution – and to ensure that no level of government exceeds its powers. Secession would affect the structure and scope of that Constitution – so it would require constitutional amendments,” Canada would have as much right to decide what lands belong to a nation called Alberta as Alberta does. Canada would also have a duty to the citizens who voted against secession and wish to remain citizens of a province in Canada. Alberta secession is just a fantasy. A fantasy of an aggrieved few who aren’t mature enough to deal with not getting their way in politics It’s pathetic. Even if Carney fails as PM, there is no solution by seceding from Canada.

What happens next to the Conservative Party?

The only reason I would begrudge him for his pension is the fact that the Cons campaigned against Singh because of his MP pension. The hypocrisy of that was so crass. And the lickspittle Conservatives supporters couldn’t even see the hypocrisy of holding his pension against him while PP and co. accumulate their own. At least Singh held an actual job before he became a politician, unlike PP. -

Poilievre sounded downright giddy in his speech after he lost. I think he is ecstatic not to win. He gets a nice vacation. When he’s back he will be in his comfortable spot as opposition leader where he can snarl and just oppose everything. I’m not even sure he wanted to win! He’d probably be wondering what the heck to do! -
Now - we heal, unite and pull together.

You’re full of shite. BC and MB have never “discussed separation”. -

He blew a 25 point lead on the Libs. He couldn’t even win his own riding!! If you mean he wasn’t a raving lunatic who sounds like Trump, then I guess. -
Should someone unelected lead a political party?

What do you think are the ramifications of having a “Socialist regime” on your doorstep? -

Were you complaining that Carney was unelected? -
Thats when Alberta will receive equalization payments from the feds, as they should.

For sure. Both events made a significant difference in the election results. (Apologies for the insult. You didn’t deserve that) One election doesn’t make a trend. -

I think @Moonbox is right though…. while PP did “well”, he actually drove even more voters to the Liberals! So is it actually the case that he did well? I think if O’Toole is leader, Cons win the election by a landslide. Andrew Coyne sums it up perfectly. -
Results are in: The Polls Were all Fake
TreeBeard replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People don’t know what that is, so it’s purely hypothetical. The polls did just fine! -
You think they have any actual marketable skills? They’re more likely to end up in Guantanamo, or San Salvador, or wherever they’re sending people.

Best part of the election.

Clearly, the polls went up immediately after Carney was selected leader. If you have other data, present it. -
