The thousands of jobs will be over late next year when the pipeline's finished. Then it will be 'dozens' of jobs. Add on zero BC gas would go to Germany anyway' Look at a map. Asia's the closest market, we have to compete with Qatar & with Australia just like for coal. The Japanese have decades of expoerience playing our 2 markets against each other. I still maintain we were too late getting into the game and we'll be lucky to even recover the cost of the gas line.

The woke police going after nurse for believing in biology
herbie replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well you'd be amazed at how an ex-GF who was a CGA forgot an entry on a title page and they not just suspended her for 3 months, they published her name in the local paper with a suspension notice and the explanation Violation of Chapter XYZ23. She got to walk around getting sneered at and the be the subject of rumours as if she'd committed fraud or something. Who's going to hunt down what Chapter XYZ23 is, they'll just "assume". Not fair, but the world ain't fair, is it? That's the way it is and why I'm not getting my panties in a knot and shrieking BS about 'woke police'. -

Are you a member of a professional association? If not the YOU don't get to decide the rules of membership. And YOU don't have to agree with them, and THEY don't care. Members of many are not allowed to speak out publicly and identify as members of that specific organization. Or publicly criticize that organization. Or deviate even slightly from their rules of conduct. You're all whining about things that don't affect you and acting as if they do. To the point of griping about traditions as 'wokeness', something that seems to be an obsession with some of you. -
They're working on that in Florida! https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/01/22/students-want-new-books-thanks-restrictions-librarians-cant-buy-them/

And when it comes to employers and professional associations that's not ever going to happen. So stop whining that someone else's problem with one is impinging on your "rights" and implying the gov't has something to do with it. If you have a problem with 'woke' then go back to sleep. -
Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.
herbie replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
But but but I could get a stinky diesel generator that would sit there useless for 360 days a year for only $2000.... Tell you a tale: Local kid bought a Chevy Bolt, decided to take it to the minesite to work, it was only 'a little bit' out of the range - he could make it! He didn't. Not wishing to be mocked, he flagged down a logging truck and got a ride back into town. Called in sick, rounded up a friend the next day and "borrowed" some of the friend's father's equipment - they drove a one ton work 4x4 and a generator on a trailer the 100 miles or so to his EV and sat there half a day recharging it. The the buddy took the truck and trailer back and he took the EV. Justification? He wasn't going to pay that jerk that ran the tow truck no $90!!! Results? Buddy's Dad went ballistic, suspended his son 3 days and made the 2 of them fill the tank on the truck and generator. His Buddy whined how unfair that was to his bar pals, and word got to the mine.... the EV kid got fired from his $80K job. but he "saved" a $90 that towing charge.... I know the kid, he went to school with mine, had a crush on my daughter. Not the sharpest pencil in the box. She said he was the nicest guy in town, but she wanted a bf that would be more than Red Green 2.0 with a yard full of cars on blocks and a barn full of duct tape. -

None of the EV owners I know ever let it get below 15% - 20%. Even with my two ICE's I make sure at least one has 1/4 of a tank - because the power here goes out for umpteen hours at a time and it's 45 mins to the next town with gas, food and human beings not shivering under a blanket next to the wood stove*. That's my #1 worry, I see charging stations being rolled out everywhere, but they can't even keep the lights on in this shithole town. I'd be a never let my EV be under 50% person, I might need to sit in it just to keep warm. *Been watching Youtubes on how to rig a battery to your gas furnace for when there's winter power outages. -
The GG is already Canada's representative of the Head of State (Chucky). As the Monarch does S.F.A. the GG is defacto the Head of State already. There's only disadvantages to being a Republic with a President.

Sure... so only people those who buy carbon fuel and the more they buy the more incentive they get.... plus the interest earned on their personal savings is taxable? Sounds like a typical Tory plan - the rich get advantages while the poor get dick shit. Along with the freedumb to not do or pay dick shit to a solution. Like I said: get rid of the carbon tax is not a climate plan.

Is Bortus not Klyden's 'wife'? Assumes that role even though Klyden laid the egg.... Did ELton John reveal the role he takes?
-
Yeah it would. That's not how Parliamentary democracies work, the leader of the party with the most seats is the Prime Minister. His party elects him, and voters must elect him(or her) to a seat in Parliament. That's what a Prime Minister IS. Now if you want to make the Governor General, the Head of State (like a President), I'm with you on that. So long as they have no more powers than the GG does now and is unable to be a genuine King Shit.

Because Joe Average is a freaking dimwit and 'average' means half the people aren't even that bright, so the taxes make you stop and think about it. Why, you want to buy a car that gets worse gas mileage or a used 1954 Kelvinator air conditioner?

To put it bluntly, every American has a toilet so they should be beaten even harder for shitting on the floor... and everyone who was awake in Grade 4 knows the climate can change into ice ages and warm cycles, it's the ignorant adults who think we can't and shouldn't do anything about getting f***ed up by it and just want to sit on their asses and watch it happen. Everyone is supposed to die, it's natural. therefore it's stoopid to seek treatment if you get ill, right?

If you have ever looked at any media that isn't a whiney anti-climate rag, you probably don't know that ALL the auto manufacturers are already converting their main production to EVs and hybrids. Major countries and US states already have these target deadlines so if you want a legitimate anti-Trudeau rant you should be criticizing him for being so late to the game. Look at some legacy media and you'll see gas prices are rising again and predicted to hit even higher levels than last time, and use your head to decide if this is a last gasp gouging effort by oil companies or will you believe some market mumbo-jumbo is causing prices to rise as demand falls. How many new refineries are under construction? Why are they buying up alt-energy and rare earth stocks? Do the oil companies know something you refuse to acknowledge? Are the auto makers building EVs because they're forced to, or because they can make money at it? The transition is happening whether you like it or not, and assistance to deal with that is a positive response.

Cancel Culture . . . alive and well.
herbie replied to Nefarious Banana's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Waah! Cancel Culture! Wokeness! Virtue Signalling! They're coming to get you, Barbara. They're coming to get you! -
Well you could start by telling us just how you think the gov't is 'running' this? In a much better way than just claiming that buying and building an oil pipeline to export oil is 'killing' the oil industry. Nobody told Elon Musk to build EVs or Ballard to build fuel cells.Or ordered those wind and solar farms be built. Or lives on past reputation as a reporter to claim pointing out opportunities and incentives is a causal and therefore negative thing to do. Times are changing and Trudeau did not make them change, so if he wants a buzzword and plan to make change easier WTH? Good politics. Much more so than "Dump the Carbon Tax" as your opponents sole Climate Policy

Maybe Biden should threaten everyone with lawsuits like the Orange Oaf until he gets a $1M fine too! Come back after you take your anti-psychotic meds for the day, boys.

HERE'S why gun control fails
herbie replied to reason10's topic in State Politics in the United States
Of course ALL weren't. Some were stolen from legal gun owners in Canada. Only like 96% were smuggled across the border, if that makes you feel better. They're trying to get rid of handguns and ALL the one that would scare a little old lady because they look like military grade weapons and most Canadians don't have an issue with that. So that if we do even see one, we'll stop and point and screech like the Pod People until the cops come and arrest you.
