  1. 100% is ridiculous but 25% is realistic. Who will they buy heavy oil from, Venezuela? Then how do they get it from tidewater to midwest refineries, there are no pipelines.
  2. No reason to think Trump will keep his word on this anymore than he has before. Even if this does get settled, Canadians will never really trust the US again and maybe that's a good thing.
  3. Cabotage. Other than the EU, no country lets other country's airlines fly their domestic routes, including the US. Canada allows 49% foreign ownership of airlines, the US only 25%. One of the reasons it costs more to fly in Canada is it is user pay. Major airports in Canada are on federal land and airport authorities pay hundreds of millions in rent to the feds every year. Airport security, air traffic control, all add to cost of your ticket. All services paid for by government in the US. Also, many of our airlines costs are in USD but revenues are in CAD. Our professional sports teams have the same problem. If foreign carriers were allowed to fly domestic routes in Canada, they would cherry pick the most lucrative routes between major cities, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal and the rest of the country could go to hell. In a country the size of Canada, air travel is critical infrastructure.
  4. Because he is prime minister until they pick a new one.
  5. We will do what we agreed to but anyone who expects Trump to keep his word is a fool. He could change his mind tomorrow, his word means nothing.
  6. We should be more selective of individuals but where do you propose to get immigrants from. This isn't the post war when Europeans were coming from their bombed out countries.
  7. Only because he is trying to screw my country, you should be mad too instead of making excuses for the shithead.
  8. Profits stil go to the US. I’d rather buy Chinese products from a Canadian retailer.
  9. Which would mean he is just a petty vindictive pr*ck that has no business running a country. Surely we can reach an agreement on borders but when it comes to tariffs I hope Trudeau has read the room because Canadians are in no mood to buckle under to the Orange Stain.
  10. Trump doesn't give a rats ass about the American people, he is hell bent on driving them into a massive recession to feed his own ego. What he is demanding is our sovereignty, he is not kidding when he says he wants us to be the 51st state and willing to do great damage to both the US and Canadian economies to do it.
  11. He can't. Industry officials say a 25% tariff will shut down the North American auto industry in a week. Moving all manufacturing to the US would take 12 to 18 months and cost a fortune when the industry is shut down and has no revenues. That's the auto industry alone. Where is the US going to get the energy (gas, oil and electric) that they get from us and at what cost? We provide critical elements to their tech and defence industries that they can't get elsewhere. We are one of two countries that has all the elements needed to make Li batteries and the US isn't the other one.
  12. As predicted, the markets are tanking this morning. You still haven't figured out that Trudeau is not running in the next election. I'm not predicting a Liberal win but it will be a lot closer than it would have been a month ago.
  13. Seems Flames fans don't agree with your assessment. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canadian-hockey-fans-boo-us-national-anthem-calgary-ottawa
  14. Our birth rate isn't capable of even sustaining the population we have. We rely on immigration to do that.
  15. Government regulations have done a tremendous amount to make cars safer and less polluting. I have a 66 Chrysler 300 convertible that I restored. A great big land yacht that I love but it is death trap. No crumple zones or telescopic steering column, no rollover protection, lap belts and seat backs that are free to flip forward so you can smash your head into a solid steel dash, shitty handling and brakes compared to today's cars. A 440 cu in engine that sucks premium like you wouldn't believe and stinks so bad I have to leave the garage door open for a half hour after backing it in to get rid of the fumes. They don't make them like they used to and that's a good thing.
  16. That war was just part of a global conflict between two European colonial powers, Not between Canadians.
  17. That was three years ago before the Orange Stain returned. Maybe you should look at the dates on the things you post because others will.
  18. Would you take a chance on that? The economic relationship between our countries was built over 90 years, Trump destroyed it in 10 days. I would never trust them not to do it again. We have to devolve as much as we can economically for our own security.
  19. Ya, why would they want to work where what they do is actually appreciated. https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nba/raptors-fans-boo-us-anthem-protest-donald-trump-tariffs-2024898 Gee, Calgary too. I thought Alberta was supposed to be Trump's friend.
  20. We will never trust them again because the is always the possibility of another Trump.
  21. Hitler had to kill as few people on the way but Republicans are such pussies, Trump doesn’t have to.
  22. The most expensive war for the US in this century was Iraq and Afghanistan. Started by Bush the Younger. https://www.brown.edu/news/2021-09-01/costsofwar This is from 2021, before the Russian invasion of Ukraine and 8 months into the Biden presidency.
  23. The way he is concentrating power is almost exactly the same. They just haven’t started burning books and putting people in camps yet.
