It will take time but how long will depend on how much effort and money is put into it. Europe already manufactures 3 very capable Gen 4.5 fighters that still have a lot of upgrade potential and are working on 6 Gen aircraft. They certainly have the industrial and technological capability to build whatever they need. Canada needs to work on partnerships with Europe rather than the US when it comes to major systems. Too bad there isn't a BAE Canada like there is in Australia so we didn't have to partner with Lockmart to build the Type 26's. We should also reconsider some of the US systems that are going into those ships.

That's a two edged sword. The more the US interferes the more other countries will understand the need to disengage with the US.

I din't know. Typhoon is a consortium of Airbus, BAE and Leonardo. Gripen could be re engined. Europe is having to re evaluate its dependence on the US defence industry as well as us.
