A Proposal for Firearms Legislation in Canada
Aristides replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually it takes a lot of practice to do with any accuracy. -
Do we pay too much for dairy or do we just pay a price that reflects the cost of production? I you go to Southern California and see some of their mega dairy farms with thousands of cattle standing out in the sun in dirt paddocks with a few roofs here and there to give them a little shade. Contrast that with the average Canadian farm which is smaller and family owned and where the cows have to be protected from Canadian winters and the other extra costs of operating in such a climate. Do you still pay too much? Consider also that those smaller family owned farms contribute a lot more to their local economies because all their goods and services are obtained from other local businesses.

We used to. I have all kinds of things from the sixties and seventies that were made in Canada that we have outsourced to other countries. A closed economy doesn't work but there is no excuse not to protect some essential areas. There is nothing more essential to human life than food and water.
-
I would say all those things at some point. We are learning the hard way that dependance on countries like China or even the US for some things just so we can buy them cheaper is a bad idea in the long run.
-
We already do it by restricting imports of certain food items with tariffs. Also, consider the environmental impact of thousands of trucks operating daily carrying agricultural products between the US and Canada, or those transported from places like New Zealand and Europe which have similar climates and grow similar crops to us.
-
Well, we should know by now that allowing other countries to gain control of strategic resources generally turns out badly. China has made a point of doing exactly that and Europe is finding out to its reliance on Russia for energy wasn't such a great idea. The idea that a country should willingly give up the ability to feed itself doesn't get much more short sighted.
-
What proof do you have that it doesn't?

There was no way Canada could afford such a project without export sales. We were not only designing and building the airframes but the engines, avionics and weapons as well. No one else wanted it. The Arrow was designed as an interceptor to go after manned bombers. ICBM's and SLBM's made those aircraft pretty much redundant. The rest of the world went for their own creations if they had them or aircraft like F-4. We bought F101's and F104's as well as the Bombarc's.

Tell that to the people who are starving because they can't get access to Ukraine and Russian grain.
-
Other than they have consistently lower firearms deaths, none at all.

Brits pay up to 50% more than EU members for the same products in the same stores.
-
British farm income decreased 20% in the year after Brexit. Statista.

Trump going to jail... "so unfair"!

Yes it is. -
It does make sense to a degree. People will just stop posting on those threads if theirs are edited and they will just become echo chambers.

You aren’t a lawyer and neither am I. We also aren’t privy to what evidence they have gathered or who has said what to the DoJ. If charges are ever laid, the court will decide what is a crime and what isn’t. -

Yes we will but why would Hutchinson lie under oath about such a thing? What's in it for her other than fearing for her life? She wasn't asked if she was told Trump grabbed the wheel, she volunteered it. -

But the people who were in the vehicle will now have to testify under oath. See how this works. -

It’s interesting that almost all the people testifying at this so called show trial are people from Trump’s own administration. He hired them. -

These hearings are not a trial. Any charges will be made by the DoJ. Congress has no jurisdiction over the DoJ so whatever happens in November will mean SFA because the current administration is in power til 2024. If you are expecting a Republican majority in Congress to put a stop to any charges that may be laid by the DoJ, you will be sadly disappointed. The President appoints the the attorney general, not Congress. Meanwhile, the Saudi backed golf tour is about to hold a tournament at a Trump course almost in sight of the World Trade Centre. -
The Great Reset = The Great Collapse

Actually they peaked at 21%. I had to renew in 83 at 18%. However, people weren't having to commit as high a percentage of their income toward buying a home back then. The home I paid $72K for in 1979 is now assessed at $1.245M. -

Not quite. Everything she said will be followed up and the people she quoted will have to testify themselves. That's the way these investigations work, they start flipping people from the bottom and work their way up. -
Canadian interest rates have been at historical lows since the financial crisis in 2009. This has resulted in historically high personal debt levels. This meltdown was inevitable regardless who was in power. Covid just sped up the process. The UK is in worse shape than us when it comes to inflation.

Money laundering in BC was more the fault of the provincial government with poor oversight of its own lottery corporation which governs casinos. They basically ignored the duffle bags full of bills that were being laundered through its casinos. I guess the feds could ban foreign ownership of residential property but the provincial government is also raking in money from the property transfer tax and speculation and vacancy tax. -

Lack of supply and low interest rates. Building permits take forever and cost a bunch in Vancouver. Lots of reasons going back long before Trudeau. What do you think he should have done to prevent it?
